How exciting. If you will send me your home e-mail address, I can attach the Barnard report for you. Also, I have been to the Union-Tacker Cemetery near Teague, Texas several times. That is where many of the Barnards are buried (including Elizabeth Edmondson Barnard). I hope you can help me with proof that Elizabeth's maiden name was Edmondson. At this time, I only speculate that was her miaden name. Also, there is an interesting story about Louisa Jackson Barnard.
My last correspondence with Patricia Anne Townsend was in Feb. 2009, but that letter was returned to me. I assume you are related to Patricia Anne???

Hi, Sally,
We would love a copy of your Barnard Family Tree Report. Alfred Barnard (and Elizabeth Edmondson) is my 3rd Great Grandfather on my dad's (Oliver Pearson, Jr) side. My mother found a website with your list of Barnards and your info, but almost immediately lost it and could not retrace her steps to find the site again. Our line goes from Alfred Eldridge and Emily Womack Pierce Barnard to Eldridge Upton and Cynthia Louisa Jackson Barnard in Freestone, TX.

Hello Mark, Glad to meet you. I probably added most of that info to the Find A Grave pages for our Barnard's. Jonathan D Barnard was my great grandfather. I am descended from his youngest son Everett, you are descended from Jonathan Benjamin. A few years back we held a ceremony at Antioch to rededicate the Confederate marker for Jonathan Daniel Barnard. I don;t know if you were there or not. But I did meet your Aunt Miriam.

I have been working on our Barnard's for several years now. Recent DNA testing has revealed some interesting info on our heritage. I look forward to talking to you soon

Jerry Barnard

I've found a wealth of information on your inquiry, at Google or Yahoo. Just type in Antioch Baptist Cemetery, Evans Co.,Ga.. Then go to the Grave finders category, and then go to list all internments. Click on Jonathan Daniel Barnard. This brings up a great amount of interesting information on the Barnard Geneology. By the way, my Grandparents are,William Rufus, and Gussie Hendricks Barnard.

Thank you for writing. I'm wondering if you know the dates of death for Brazilla and Melissa or if you know the cemetery they are buried in. Also wondering if you know another name for Brazilla. In one place on the internet I saw him listed as B B Barnard. I also wonder if you have found them in any census other than in the 1900 census in Parker County. I did find at one point that he was the postmaster at Agnes, Texas. Also wondering if you know the parents for either of them. Do you have any pictures of them or their children? I have a cousin who would love to see a picture of Dr. Hicks as his Dad told colorful stories about riding across the Red River to fetch him when any of the family in Waurika, OK were ill. I have put together all the information I have collected on this family and would be happy to share with you. If you prefer, you can contact me direct at eneill9644@aol.com.

My grandmother was Ida May Barnard Peterson. Her parents were Brazilla and Melissa Barnard . I do remember stories of her living in Parker county as a child and their store being robbed. I do know that Brazilla and Melissa were living in Hereford, Tx when they died 3 days apart. Laura, their daughter, was married to dr. Hicks there and took care of them.

Hi Luanne,
I'm afraid I can't help you any, but I'm also working on some Barnards in England. The furthest back I can go is Michael Barnard, born 1823 in Lincolnshire, England. Married to Charlotte who was born in 1825, in Emmingford, Hampshire, England. They had a number of children together, but the one that I can trace my family to is Bletsoe Barnard, born 1866 in Radford, Nottinghamshire, England.

Do any of these names ring a bell?

Thanks!
-Dave

Based on the info that I pulled off your online tree, and other online trees, you are descended from Bartholmew Barnard born about 1620, born in England and arrived in NEw England in 1634, one of three brothers. MOst likely Quakers escaping religious persecution.

Here's a link .
http://ewbarnard.com/ancestry/showmedia.php?mediaID=16

I am involved in DNA genealogy, and we have a large project going on with all the Barnard's in this country

Susan will show up.
Dear Noel, I have just had a quick look. I have not found a record mentioning the Chawners (but that does not mean it isn't there, as there could be a transcription error). I have however found Edward Barnard (actually transcibed as Bernard) son of Edward Barnard of Nichol Square London, Flatter, apprenticed to Charles Wright, Goldsmith, 5 December 1781. I think this must be referring to Edward Barnard (1767-1855) the son of Edward Barnard (1735-1808).

Regards,

Helen
Thank you Helen, that seems pretty conclusive.

Still on the subject of apprenticeships, I have seen it stated that the 1768 Edward Barnard was apprenticed to one of the Chawners; any truth in this? I have him down as apprenticed to Charles Wright in 1781.

Noel
Dear Noel,

In the Freedom of the City of London Admission Papers, just released on Ancestry, there is an entry for Edward: Date 7 March 1748, Master William Brown, Father Nathaniel Barnard late of Barrington in the County of Cambridgshire, Taylor Deceased. William Browne was a carpenter and Edward was apprenticed to him for 7 years. So this would appear to back up the research of Mary Louise Barnard. Interesting to note his first career choice which obviously did not suit him!

Regards,

Helen

Over 20 years ago I found a doctoral thesis at Goldsmith’s Hall London; the subject was the history of the Barnards, family and firm, and the author was a Mary Louise Barnard. The Librarian (whose name was Beasley!) kindly put me in touch with her and we are still in touch.

The thesis quotes from a copy of an old family tree: Edward Barnard was born 1735 son of Nathaniel, a tailor, who was said to have lived as his ancestors had done in his own house in Barrington Cambs; and his wife Ann Freeman of Fenny Stanton Hunts . Nathaniel died in 1739 and Ann moved to London with her sons.

A transcript of the Barrington registers at the society of Genealogists shows the marriage of Nathaniel and Ann Freeman in 1722, and the baptisms of their sons Nathaniel in 1723 and John in 1729, but not Edward. Nevertheless this seems to agree well enough with the above story.

Also at the SoG is a tree by Philip Barnard which goes back two or three generations before the Nathaniel who died in 1739 to a William born 1605.

If any of this is new to you and you want more information let me know.

Noel Livermore noel.livermore@btinternet.com
I have found my husband's 3 x great-grandfather, Edward Barnard apprenticed to his uncle "the" Edward Barnard of Paternoster Row:

Name: Edward Barnard
Admission Date: 7 Jul 1821
Master's Name: Edward Barnard
Father's Name: Nathaniel Barnard

Edward junior's brother Nathaniel was also apprenticed to his uncle Edward in 1818.

These are great records!

My own area of interest in the Barnard family lies in the period prior to 1808 when Edward Barnard Sen. Silver Flatter of St Giles Cripplegate was buried, his Will having established my own link to the family through his disinherited son Nathaniel through Edward's second wife Mary Gastineau.
The name Nathaniel seems to give some credence to at least a patronymic link to a Nathaniel Barnard detailed by an internet source about a family bible which links this Barnard line back to Barrington in Cambridgeshire. I haven't seen any other reference that supports that notion.

I don't know about other contributors to this thread but any further information to support the idea of a link to Cambridgeshire would be welcome.

Having said all that I would also be happy to see any further information relating to what happened to the Silver flatting business taken on by Edward Senior's son John which was quite apart from the firm of Barnard and Sons run by John's brother Edward jun.

regards Sue Rees Beasley

However, I have a subscription to Ancestry and can now see your line and figure out who is who.

I do have another question for you though. Family lore has always said there was some connection between our BANARD family and President Geo Washington and Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. I have no idea if this is true or not, but I see that Paralee and Upton had a brother name Dandridge. Maybe a co-incidence?

I'm especially interested in this thread as I recently made contact with a Barnard male who is directly descended from Upton Barnard ( 1854 ), his son Upton Ernest ( 1883 ), his son Upton ( 1910 ) and his son John Ernest ( 1920 ) of Houston TX.

He is interested in participating in a Barnard Surname ( y DNA ) project that I am involved in. Our goal is to add samples of Barnard y DNA ( males ) from as many Barnard lines in America ( and elsewhere ) in order to determine our relationship. If anyone is interested in what we are doing, please let me know.

Thanks

Jerry Barnard
