Today I purchased an old cabinet photo at a local antique shop. The photo is labelled on the back "Audrey Barnes". The photo was taken at the Long Photo Studio in Edgerton Ohio. If this is one of your ancestors, please let me know.

Ivor Barnes though to have Australia in early 1900s

Does anyone have any information on Ivor Barnes. Known to have lived in Australia in the early 1900s. Later moved to Canada where is married and had several children.

In Australia it is known that he had a sister Hazel Rowena, his parents were Cameron Barnes and Frances Eveline. Little more is known.

I'm looking for Oliver Barnes, married to Elizabeth Rutledge, children were Emma and Sarah M Barnes. Oliver Barnes was my Great-Great Grandfather.

Emma Barnes married Winfield Patterson, one of their sons was Arthur Patterson, one of Arthur's sons was Clifford Patterson, my dad.

I have run into a brick wall and am looking for a way through. My g.g.g.grandfather was George A. Barnes (or Barns). I have only scattered information on him. He was born sometime around 1800, possibly in Kentucky or North Carolina. He married in Marion County, Indiana in 1828. His marriage license states he was a resident of Vermillion County (could be either Indiana or Illinois). In the Vermilion County, Illinois, history there is a mention of a Barnes as a brother-in-law to Henry Johnson who was from North Carolina. In neighboring Parke County, IN, there were 2 Barnes Families, Jehu and Zechariah, that moved up from North Carolina by way of Mercer County, Kentucky. In neighboring Vigo County, IN, several Barnes families are also found.
After the marriage, the family moved to Wabash County, Illinois, for a few years, at least until after 1830, when their first child was born. Then the family moved to Kentucky where 2 more children were born about 1832 and 1834. Where in Kentucky I am not for sure, except for his wife's probate records of 1839-1842. They give 3 names of people in Kentucky, James Marshall (holding property), James Arnold (possibly owing money), and Stephen Lamaster or Lancaster (possibly owing money). The only area in Kentucky where all 3 names occur in either the 1830 or 1840 census is in northern Kentucky. There are James Marshalls in Boone and Bourbon Counties, James Arnolds in Kenton, Bourbon, and Nicholas Counties, and a Stephen Lancaster in Campbell County.
George Barnes would have died between 1834 and 1837. He may have moved back to Kentucky to family there, since there are at least a couple of Barnes families in the same area of northern Kentucky at that time.
Any leads would be appreciated.

James Richard Barnes was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 24, 1928, to Eugene and Myrtle (Dewick) Barnes. James passed away Dec. 11, 2008, in Victorville, Calif.
He lived in Fontana since 1945 and was a manager for Fontana Motors/Hamilton Ford until 1969. When he went into the motorcycle business he owned and operated Jim Barnes Cycle City in Fontana from 1969 until 1972. He then owned and operated B&B Cycles in Victorville beginning in 1972.
James is survived by his adoring family, sons Richard (Carolyn) Barnes and James (Kelly) Barnes, sister Donna Smith, four grandchildren and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Ingold Funeral Chapel, 8277 Juniper Ave. in Fontana. James will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Ailie (Peterson) Barnes, whom he married in 1950 and preceded him in death in 1995. They will both be together once again at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, Calif.

Henry arrived in South Australia 18 April 1863, on the Mary Shepherd ex Plymonth 10 January 1863. Henry died 20 March 1891 at Brighton [ while living at Norward] Mary died 29 January 1908 aged 59 yrs. She was living at Norwood, with Cecil and Minnie, suffered a broken hip, then died later of pneumonia, Adelaide, "widowed" - so Henry must have already died probably between the years of 1888 [ when their last child was born -
and 1908, when Mary died]
Some records of the family are missing - and it is thought that this was because of several big floods in Saddleworth area.
Can any one shed any information on this family from UK, because I have now hit a brick wall and information would help me so very much.

My mom is a Bridgforth and that family was from Kenbridge (interesting fact, that twon was named for the Kennedys and Bridgforths....I always heard the story that was because they were rival horse thieves......one family would steal a horse and blame it on the other. My mom has alot of info, she would be more than willing to share.

Victor's father was Thomas Henry or Henry Thomas and the neighbors helped raised him when his mother died shortly after his birth. Then they moved away and took Victor and adopted him. He was reunited with Barnes family when he was grown.

Married at Emporia

Arno Housinger sprung a little surprise on his friends last week when he went to Emporia and was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Barnes. The wedding occurred on Wednesday, December 4, and Mr. And Mrs. Housinger spent a few days visiting relatives and friends at Emporia, returning to Sylvia Friday morning. They went to Mr. Housinger's farm north of Sylvia and are now keeping house.

Congratulations and best wishes for a happy and prosperous life are hereby extended.

Helen Ruth Barnes, 92, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 with her loving and devoted daughters by her side at Friendship Village of Columbus. She is reunited with her special loving and adoring husband of 70 years, Todd, who passed away on the same day four years ago.
Helen was a caring and dedicated mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family. She and Todd were members of Maple Grove Methodist Church for over 25 years. She enjoyed decorating and was an avid reader.

Please read portions of article printed in Tri-County Chronicle, Cass City, Michigan, December 24, 1904 –

"Deadly Souvenir
A Navy Shell Does Deadly Work in a Peaceful Home.

Lifeless and horribly mutilated, the body of Mrs. Mamie Barnes, aged 26 years, was found Thursday noon across the threshhold of a doorway at the family home, 253 Pine street, Detroit.
A shell, containing a powerful explosive, which had been sent as a curio to Mrs. Barnes by her brother, Wm. Mayhu, a United States navy gunner stationed at Newport News, was the cause of her death, although murder was at first feared.
. . . At 9:30 o'clock neighbors heard the detonation of a terrific explosion. Rushing out of doors in their alarm they sought the cause, but failed to find it. The Barnes home, as well as others in the vicinity, was quiet . . .
A few minutes before 12 o’clock a passing milkman noticed smoke issuing from an open window of the Barnes home . . .
. . . The fire had evidently been smouldering for several hours, and was just gaining headway. Had the rescuing party been much later . . . and the two little children, one only a few months old and the other less than 3 years old, would probably have been killed also . . . “

Note that this occurred in Detroit but article is from Tri-County Chronicle. Many of my Barnes/Thompson/Hopps people came from and lived in the Tri-County area at this time, which probably accounts for the notice in this paper.

Anath was born abt June 1828 in NY. In 1880 Census he indicates is parents are born in MA but in 1900 Census, his parents are both listed as born in NY. In 1900, he is an elderly widower living with his daughter's family. He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown -- possibly Mrs. Elizabeth Walters) in 1859/1860 in IL, maybe LaSalle Co. His children born bet 1860 and 1864 in IL. Have been unable to find the family in 1870 but they are in Clay Co., NE in 1880. Children James, b abt 1860, Marintha "Minnie", b 1862 IL, Charles A., b abt 1864. Any help locating the parents, siblings of Anath would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I am looking for information about a Robert Barnes who was hit by a train in 1913. I came across a Coroner's Hearing held at White Hall, Greene County, Illinois, dated 5 Oct 1913 for a Robert Barnes. The verdict was that he "came to his death by being struck by C&A train off a bridge at Seminary Creek 1 1/2 miles south of White Hall.
Any information (a newspaper article or an obit would be wonderful) would be greatly appreciated. Think this might be great-grandpa.

Joseph Barnes of Bendheim [Glass Manufacturer] received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Glass Guild (AGG), honoring his lifetime dedication to the stained glass industry. Joe’s career has spanned over 60 years, of which almost 40 are with Bendheim. He is the first recipient of the award now to be presented annually as the “Joe Barnes Lifetime Achievement Award.”

“Joe’s love of people and deeply rooted work ethic have made him a great asset to Bendheim and the stained glass industry,” said Robert Jayson, President of Bendheim. “Joe is known to be the first man in to work and one of the last to leave; one of the few who can always be relied upon to do the job, no matter what the task. I cannot imagine how many thousands of people he has helped with color selection, substitutions, shipping questions or just “how-to” advice. From assisting visitors to our warehouse to answering a telephone call, Joe has always been there to help.”

Joe Barnes himself smiles as he reflects on his lifelong journey in the field. “I got in the glass business by accident, and I never thought I would stay in it for so long,” he admits.

After World War II, Joe found his first glass job at Leo Popper’s importers of specialty glass, almost by accident. He spent years learning the business under Popper’s guidance. In 1969, Popper closed its doors, and Barnes brought his skills to Bendheim.

Joe Barnes started out at Bendheim with a variety of jobs, including customer service, glass selection, cutting, and delivery. He is still actively involved in the company’s stained glass division, and has many loyal customers to date.

“I love working with glass,” Barnes explains. ”It has charm, beauty and so many design possibilities, there is so much you can do with it. The other great part of this job is working with people. I enjoy talking to them and helping them choose their glass.”

Joe has seen Bendheim grow from a small family-owned business to a national specialty glass company with five divisions, over 100 employees, facilities on both coasts, and a New York City showroom. As the company has evolved, Joe’s commitment to work has not diminished: With his children grown up, Bendheim is as much a part of his life as ever.

“I do not want to retire. I love the family-like friendliness and connection with people here. I do not think such atmosphere exists in companies any more. This job is my life.”

Henry Barnes of Surry Co. VA died bef July 15, 1760. Wife Naomy. Sons: William, John, Benjamin, Henry and daughter Elizabeth. In 1748 Henry Barnes lived on the north side of Blackwater beginning at William Andrew's corner.

Who did John Barnes, son of John Barnes and Sarah, marry? The John Barnes I'm seeking resided in the same area and was in the 1783 Census. Is this the same John Barnes who married Susanna and whose daughter Sally was left in the will of Elizabeth Wager in 1784?

Kathleen Barnes Born in abt 1915 died 1919

Was my mother, Nina Belle Barnes younger sister who died at 4 years of age. Kathleens father and mother were George Monroe Barnes and Mary Elizabeth Barnes.

I can find no records whatsoever for Kathleen Barnes. I have a picture of her and would like to include her in my family tree!!!

Any ideas or suggestions as to how I might find something for her? She was born and died in Providence Kentucky.

Dennis Barnes was born about 1765 in South Carolina. He married sometime before 1806, although her name is not known. They had five known children and probably others. The family moved to Tennessee sometime between 1810 and 1813 and eventually settled in that part of Humphreys County, Tennessee that became Benton County, Tennessee in 1836. His wife died after 1819 and before 1824 and he married Amy, whose maiden name is not known. They were probably married in Humphreys County where such records have been lost by fire. She was born in 1787 in Tennessee and died between 1850 and 1860.

Dennis Barnes known children by first marriage were:
1. William Barnes born 16 February 1808 in South Carolina.
2. Henry Barnes born in 1810 in South Carolina.
3. Davis Barnes born in 1813 in Tennessee.
4. Dennis Barnes, Jr. born in 1815 in Tennessee and married Mary Ann Tyner on 11 October 1838 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi.
5. Louise A. Barnes born in 1819 in Tennessee and died between 1880 and 1899.

Dennis children by second marriage were:
1. Lucinda Barnes born 27 July 1824, married John J. Tyner and died 12 February 1885 at Fairview, Green County, Arkansas.
2. Mary Barnes born in 1828 and married John Mothershed on 23 September 1844 in Benton County, Tennessee.
3. Jesse Barnes married Mary (?) and died in 1848.

Dennis Barnes died between 1850 and 1860 in Benton County, Tennessee. His son, William Barnes, married Sarah Wyatt on 14 January 1827 in Humphreys County, Tennessee and made their home in the part of that county that became Benton County, Tennessee in 1836. She was a daughter of James and Ellendor Wyatt, who also came from South Carolina. James Wyatt was a Methodist Minister.

William Barnes also became a Methodist Minister and kept a birth record of his children in his Bible, as follows:

1. Alexander Barnes born 2 November 1827.
2. Mary Jane Barnes born 4 October 1829.
3. Andrew Jackson Barnes born 27 August 1831.
4. Susan Ann (Susana) Barnes born 4 September 1833, married a Mr. Robinson about 1853, married second James Oxford in May of 1861. James was a son of Samuel Oxford.
5. Martha Margaret Barnes born 28 June 1835, married John Oxford on 25 December 1851. John and James were brothers.
6. Sarah Elizabeth Barnes born 24 August 1837, married James Franklin Smothers on 29 April 1857, died 26 September 1883 and buried in the Palestine Methodist Cemetery.
7. Ann Mariah Barns born 20 November 1839.
8. William James Barnes born 3 September 1843.
9. Nancy Victory Barnes born 3 September 1845.
10. Henry Newton Barnes born 15 July 1849.

Rev. William Barnes was a Methodist Minister in the Fourth Civil District of Benton County, TN until his death on 13 December 1862. His wife Sarah died 25 April 1863. She was a daughter of James A. and Ellendor Wyatt of South Carolina. Ellendor Wyatt last appeared in the home of William Barnes during the 1850 census of the Second Civil District, Benton County.

William James Barnes, son of Rev. William and Sarah Barnes, also became a Methodist Minister and inherited his fathers Bible. He married Martha Brown on 3 September 1862. Martha Brown was born 8 November 1839, died 19 November 1871 and buried in an unmarked grave at the Palestine Methodist Cemetery.

William James and Martha Barns had issue:

1. Margaret Annie Barnes born 11 August 1863 and died 29 July 1865.
2. Andrew Green Barnes born 21 February 1865.
3. Sallie Ettie Barnes born 18 July 1867.
4. Edgar Lucian Barnes born 4 July 1870, married Junie H. Oxford on 25 November 1894 and died in 1941. Junie was born in 1881 and died in 1908.
5. Martha Magdalen Barnes born 17 November 1871 and died on 16 August 1872.
Rev. William James Barns married second, Sarah Ann Lawler, on 27 November 1873. She was born in 1848 a daughter of Aaron and Martha Lawler and became a school teacher in Benton County. Sarah Ann died in October of 1876 and buried in an unmarked grave at the Palestine Methodist Cemetery near Holladay, TN.

Rev. William James Barnes married third, Mary Ann (Sallie) Anderson on 11 April 1877. She was born in 1858 a daughter of W. Carroll and Margaret Anderson and died in 1939.

Rev. William James and Sallie Barnes had issue:

1. Geneva Barnes born 12 March 1878.
2. William Virgil Barnes born 3 December 1882.
3. Roy Whitten Barnes born 17 November 1886.
4. Mayblen Barnes born 20 July 1887.
5. Rirdie Marvin Barnes born 5 December 1891.
6. John Weslie Barnes born 24 January 1894.
7. Julie Victoria Barnes born 17 March 1896.
8. Kathleen Barnes born 25 March 1898.
9. George Wilber Barnes born 25 September 1899 and died in 1936.

Rev. William James Barnes died 23 January 1923. Sallie died in 1939. Both were buried in the Palestine Methodist Cemetery near Holladay, TN.

My Barnes Family pre 1852

I pretty new to family research, but been on a bit of a role. Got back to me gt gt grandad. Found his death cerificate but there is no record of him on any cencus before 1891. I know where he was born in 1852 (i think!) and died in 1896 but there is no record of his marriage either. Feeling very fustrated. Also i would love to know how to search via street names as i have a few addresses to check, but i can't.
