Hello!

I'm a descendant of Elizabeth Campbell Barret Campbell. Her maiden name was Campbell: she was the natural daughter of Neil Campbell and Tabitha Ballow, mentioned in his will, and residual legatee of his estate, which included some 949 acres of land in Virginia. But I know nothing further of her after she moved to Tennessee with her second husband, Hugh Campbell.

I am descended from Lyne Talliaferro Barret, the son of Charles Lee Barret and Sarah Talliaferro, born in Virginia, and lived in Texas.

Hi Mark,
I am of the Canadian branch of Merryweathers, from Horatio Merryweather/Dr James Merryweather/Frank Merryweather line who came to Canada in the early 1900's.
I think I know the Aussie connection, Sue? Shes from Frank Merryweathers younger brother, Roy. Those kids ventured all around the world!
I've been confirming and expanding on the Merryweather info that has come from Sue and I think, you, on the Merryweather website. The American branch, especially the one who went to New Orleans, is really interesting! If you like, we can email directly,
I'm leahmerryw@hotmail.com
Thank you for contacting, I would love to hear more about your work, and about the Barrets as well.
Leah
I'm looking for info on Edward J. Barret. I know he was living in New York, New York in 1892. At that time he is recorded on his son; Henry L. Barret's birth certificate as being 26 years old, Born in the city, and living at 422 W. 47th street. He is also recorded as being a policeman. That is the only record that has been found. I know shortly after his sons birth he died. I dont know how or when. Any help would be great.
Thanks, Kelly

It is because my ggg grandfather was listed as Syrius Parrot in his father-in-law's will, when his name was actually Cyrus BARRETT, but the cencus, etc records do tend to make mistakes here and there. Just a variation....

More BARRETT to come....

Kathleen, Your subject search is quite interesting as I have been trying for years to find the exact connections. I am descended from John Peterson - ca 1730 who settled in Duplin County before 1750. He was married at least three and maybe four times eventually fathering at least 14 or more children. To date, I have not connected John Peterson out of the Duplin/Sampson County area of North Carolina but have recently noted that one of his wives may have been Martha Barret.

Valorie, I would definitly like to know more about the Barrett information you have. My Lucretia, marrying John Shawl, is about the extent of our information on the Barrett side fo the family. I did find a marriage of Lucretia Shawl to Charles Baker, after John died.

Ken, Thank you for the reply. I answered Valorie with a few more details. Our Lucretia b. 1834 in New York/Vermont listed in the 1850 census Springvale, Fon du Lac, Wisconsin with sister Harriett Belinda Barrett LINGNER and family. Harriett is our brick wall and Lucretia is the only clue as to her family.
Lora

Valorie, I am not sure now when your Lucretia was born. Mine was 1834. I placed Moses as a son of Stephen Barrett, could Moses possibly be a brother to my Lucretia? Lucretia Barrett b. 1834 found in the 1850 census Springvale, Fon du Lac, Wisconsin, with sister Harriett Belinda Barrett LINGNER and family. This Harriett Belinda Barrett is our brick wall for the Lanigar and Newman families. Our Barrett's came from New York through Indiana and to Wisconsin. Harriett and family migrated to California in the early 1850's. If there is information we can share, I am more than willing. Thank you for the response.
Lora

I still have not found who Lucretia and Abbigail's parents were. I'm wonderfing if it was Moses Barrett???

My uncle Willie

My uncle.. William Donoghue moved to the western USA sometimes in the 1930's (i believe). Family history states that he changed his last name to Barrett (unsure of the spelling). My cousin seems to remember that Uncle Willie died in the state of Arizona. She remembers that either her mother (willie's sister) or our grandmother....received a telegram stating that Willie had died and that he had been married and had a daughter. That means he would have to have died before 1961 (when both my aunt and my grandmother had passed away by then). Most likely it was early 1950's if not earlier. Nothing is known about this branch of my family tree. William's name at birth was William Donoghue...although he may have used O'Donoghue (some family members added the O when they came to the USA) ...we are told he changed his last name to Barrett although the spelling could be different...needless to say this is a very difficult search. I have also heard the story that when he left NY he initially went to Colorado. I am in the dark here. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Moved to St. Joseph Co., Michigan where Abigail and John Drummond's daughter Jane (Algana) was married to David M. McGaffey 12 May 1850. From there John, Abigail, David and Jane and other family members moved to Van Buren County, Iowa. John Drummond was born 19 April 1804 in Jefferson Co., N. Y. My records show that John and Abigail were married 2 July 1829 in Jefferson Co., NY. Maybe this is also where Lucretia and John Shawl were married? Hope this helps.

Kathy,

That is an interesting question that I can not answer. The only reference that I have is from the book "Sunlight on the Southside" page 85 which has a list of 1748/49 Lunenberg County Tithes From the Mouth of Falling River up taken by John Phelps. It lists "John Beard, Miles Barret, 3 Tithes. Mouth of Falling River Upwards." It also lists "Adum Beard, 1 tithe."

I am researching the family of John Beard and his son Adam who lived on Falling River in 1700's. I am intrigued as to whom Miles Barret is and why he and John are listed together in the list of tithes.

mike beard

Barret, Brownell, Kyle/Kile

I'm looking for my great-grandmother, Harriet Kyle/Kile's, mother's family. Her mother was Barret (or Barette) BRONELL (or Brownell). My ggrandmother was born in Allen County IN in 1845 and her father was Jeremiah Kyle/Kile. Apparently Barette died during or soon after giving birth, because Jeremiah remarried in 1849 and is listed with his new wife, sans 5 yr old Harriet, in the 1850 census.
I suspect Barret/Barette was, not only a given, but a maternal surname as well.
I find neighborhood proximity between the Barret and Kyle families in the 1850 St Josephs Twp., Allen Co., IN census, but no Bronell.
If any of these names and/or proximities ring any bells, please respond.
Gary
pentaby@alltel.net
