Found the death/buriel site of George Victor Barret in southern California in 1938. Now I'm looking for his mother's family in Iowa. Lebn Wunderlein was from Switzerland, and Martha was from Germany. They came from their homeland to Indiana and onto Iowa. They have several children in the 1870 census but "no joy" in finding any more clues. Help. Lebn died before Martha and she was living with her younger daughter and taking care of her grandchildren. She died in Tacoma, WA in 1911. It is my belief that they had their names spelled several ways.

Your statement: "they were very into boats" is intriguing. My great grandfather, Thomas E BARRETT b abt 1814, together with wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Ellen, arrived in New York from Ireland on the sloop Ontario, April 1836, and apparently went directly to Ohio where they had two more children, then in Indiana they had three more children before arriving in Little Rock AR around 1849. In Little Rock, Capt Barrett built several shallow-draft steam-boats for the Arkansas River including the Fox and Lone Star. The sons were captains and engineers on ferries and steam boats. I believe Thomas had been into boats earlier in Ireland and perhaps along the Ohio River.
Barrett Duff

I am trying to confirm the date of death and location of burial for Elias A Barrett. I have his birth as 1834. Marriage to Sarah F. Madaris Dec 4, 1856, Hancock Co, IN. Have the family living in Kansas as late as the 1880 census. I have no documentation of why he would have returned to IN, or when. I have found a date of death on some individuals' trees, but also have noticed many are intermingling information for Elias with his brother Elijah, who I have as born 1831 and married to Lucinda F Caldwell (Jan 9, 1851, Hancock Co, IN). Any information regarding these individuals, or any of their siblings, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My GG Granfather Richard Barrett is from Cork, his daughter Margaret Barrett was born in Milltown Co. Kerry. I have her birth certificate. Stated on her birth certificate Richard Barrett was born in Co. Cork, according to the 1901 census he was born in Co. Cork and 38 years of age, birth about 1864. Also on Margarets Barretts birth certificate, Richard was married to Margaret Foley. I am hopping that anyone on this post may have some info to help me. I am at a brick wall, anything would help. Thanks Judy

There is Benjamin Barrett who was an English convict transported to Tasmania in 1828 on the ship Woodford. He later marries Mary Thompson Greig in Tasmania in 1842. In 1846, they depart Tasmania for Victoria; where they reside largely around Steiglitz until his death in 1889. They had 11 children.

Nancy,
I was reading your post from last year and I don't see where I responded to your last post. James A H Barrett's brother John K Barrett is my GG grandfather. I am the pastor at the same church James A H pastored in 1898. Small world but then my family never moved more than 50 miles from the old Barrett farm anyway. Take care.

James Barrett (James and I even have the same first name.)

George was born in 1896 in Montanta, moved with family to National City (San Diego) California. Parents, Martha Wunderlein (several spellings) and Jeremiah (Jerry) Barrett. Siblings: Clement Francis Barret and an older female who died in 1915. He was married twice, once to an actress named Arline, the second time to Clara Francis Baird and had a daughter, Elaine. We were told that he was a studio musician, played the violin, and he was a salesmen for a coffee company. They divorced sometime in the 30's, and he apparently died. I don't have any further info on him. Hope that you can help.

Re: BARRETT, Katherine (Middletown, CT.) b. abt 1851 - d. 5.27.1930

I read your post, and somehow I knew that we had made a connection. My great-grandfather, John Harrison Barrett, was born in England. He sailed to Canada, and then came to St. Louis, Missouri where he joined the Civil War on the side of the North, in a light artillery unit. At the end of the war, he moved to Springfield, CT where he had family. Some have said that he had a twin brother named Thomas, which was the father's name. The mother was Phoebe Lomas. John Barrett was born in October of 1842. He had many children by his first wife, Elizabeth Whittemore, five children by his second wife Helen Josephine Doherity Barrett, and 9 by his third wife, Elizabeth Barry Bateson. The five by my great-grandmother Helen were: Mary Ann, Emeline, Elizabeth "Katherine" Barrett my grandmother, Franklin Robert, a sailor on the battleship Delaware, and John Jr. I am convinced that I am related to any Barretts who were from Springfield, MA. Oddly enough, before I found this out, I used to visit Springfield, MA a lot because I liked it. My daughter was in school in Boston at that time and I would go there to shop. As for CT, my grandmother Kathryn was born there because her father John worked there for a time near Hartford in Rockville. John's family had money, so he was able to go back and forth between MA and England. He lived with his third wife and family on Lynn St in Malden, which is where he died. He is buried in the Bellevue Veterans' cemetery in Lawrence, MA with his first and third wives.

parino1, I might try the DNA test.

bubrig, I'll edit when I ask about the area. I don't have it written down anywhere where they came from. I know they only came to Connecticut a few generations back, but I think my dad or grandfather may know where they were from.
