Hello are you still around? I can't believe this but I just saw your message, 10 years later.....

Anyway, interestingly, I just had my mother, Daughter of Victor Barrios (Mom-Betty Barrios) and my DNA done and Spain did not light up. She is 32% Mayan Indian and my great grandfather was very dark not that that is definitive by any means....just not very European looking. I definitely am interested in learning all I can about the Barrios lineage as I still have not found anything beyond my great grandfather.

Birth 24 Jan 1918 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala
Death 1 May 1997 in Duarte, Los Angeles, California, USA
his wife is
Cayetana Barrios de paz
Birth 7 aug 1917 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala Death 12/22/2002 in Los Angeles, CA

We are just starting out on his tree. I've been working on mine for about a year and a half, but I'd be happy to share any info as we come across that might help. Send me a message with any info you have and we can try and help.

Well, "How may I help you" is a good question. I don't really know exactly what I want except to learn a little bit more about his family without rocking the boat too much. My name was Keelye Barrios and I was his adopted daughter. It was a rather unusual arrangement. My birth mother was named Arlene Snow. She delivered me at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. My birth certificate lists Bud as the father and Jean Barrios as the mother. This was an arrangement between Bud and Jean with Arlene to adopt me. I lived with Jean and Bud from birth. We lived in SF for a while and then moved to Santa Rosa, CA. Bud came home on weekends and ran the bar in SF during the week. Jean and Bud were together until I was about 5 years old, I do not think they were legally married. At that time (around 1965) I learned of his "other" family. Marion and I think 2 daughters, both older than me. In later years I got to meet the family in person, right after a boy named "Christopher" was born. That was the last contact I had with Bud. I know he lived North of SF near Petaluma for a number of years, and I did see a Social Security death record on line stating he had died.

Anyway, I would like to know his ethnic background. My mother said it was either Spanish or Portuguese.

I don't know what his family knew about me and I wouldn't want them to be upset by this information, but I do think they knew of me. I would like to know any information you might be able to share.

I have only a couple pictures of Bud. He always dressed very nice in a suit with a little hankie in the pocket. In his free time on week ends he liked to work on cars in the garage. One time when I was maybe two we went at Christmas to visit what I believe was his sister.

Anyway, any specific information would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to add to all the Barrios discussion:

My great grandfather is Desiderio Barrios and was a revolutionary from the country of Guatemala dating back to the late 1800's. My grandfather was also named Desiderio Barrios and he passed in the early 1990's. My father's name in Jose Rolando Barrios and was born in Guatemala as well. I was told that my heritage comes from Spain to Guatemala. As my father immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1970's and was born in California in 1978.

Not sure if anyone can connect to any of this, but it would be great to know more about my Barrios ancestors.

Joanne, My name is Teresa Barrios. I don't think we could be related at least, I have not come across an aunt by the name Gloria. My father's family came from Zacatecas, Mexico and eventually ended up at Eagle Lake, Texas. Where some of the elder Barrios' died. I am trying to locate information on a Joseph Liberato Barrios who was born in the Philippines in 1839. I can't go back any further because I dont' have his parents names. He came to New Orleans, Louisiana at some point and married Rebecca Francis. Their children were: Henry, Peter Paul, Jaunita Johannatheir atjabarriose, George, and Thomas. Hi, My name is Penelope Barrios Kendrick. I live in Baton Rouge and am researching my Barrios family. I have looked at the book "One Little Solder" and cannot connect any of my family with those "Canary Islanders" that came to Louisiana. I was told that my great grandfather, Joseph Liberato Barrios, had come from Spain, to the Cannary Islands, to the Philippines and then to Louisiana. I recently found out that Liberato was actually born in the Philippines, 1839, but cannot find the names of his parents. After he came to New Orleans, he married Rebecca Francis and their children were: Peter Paul, Thomas, George, Juanita Johanna, and Henry. The book "One Little Soldier" is also available at the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. You can't check it out but they might know where you can get a copy if you have not already located one.

I may be related. My name is Lisa, daughter of Teresa Barrios. She is daughter of Francisco Barrios, niece of Jose, Porfirio, Martin,Alejandro. Niece of Paula Barrios.Cousin of Vicente, Virginia, Teresa,Aurora,Rubin - children of her Uncle Jose Barrios.

The Barrios family came from Zacatecas, Mx and relocated to LaSalle, TX and Eagle Lake, TX and later to Houston.

I know of a Galvin David Barrios that once owned a bar in the Bay Area, had a wife named Marion and had two older daughter and a son name Christopher (I think). I am a daughter from a previous relationship.

Santos Barrios Burrola, my grandfather was born in 1887 in Coahuila, Mexico and died in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico in 1966 when my mother was 10 years old and he 80 years old. He was one of 16 children and left his home when he was just a young teenager. He fought in the Mexican Revolution (yes, with pancho villa) when he was a teenager. i know in his first marriage he had one child (female), second marriage 5 children, and 3rd marriage (with my grandmother)... 4 children. some of his family headed to texas.. and that is all i know.

My name is Carol Carmilette Hellbach Stokes and I am looking for the book written on my Mother's family. Her fathers name was Anthenor Barrios and my grandmother was Victorine. My grandfather was from the Lockport, New Orleans area. They lived in the Westwego, Marrero area. They had 10 surviving children. My mothers name was Delia Carmilette Barrios, Hellbach. My dad's name is Juan Barrios, his father is Simon Barrios, married to Cruz Palcious Barrios.
Brothers: Manuel, Pedro, Jesus, Miguel, Alcaro. Sister: Aurora.

Juan Barrios family:wife:Virginia Medina Barrios,sons: Juan,Pedro, Hector, Oscar, daughters: Graceila, Dalia, Petra, Amelia,

John, Pedro, Dalia born in Eagle Lake. Graceila, Wharton, Hector, Oscar, Amelia, Petra, from Houston.

I've learned that our ancestry generates from Zacatecas. Relatives: Eagle, Lake Texas, some live in Eagle Pass, Crystal City, and cities up North.

Correction, I sent an earlier message stating that my great grand father Emanuel Barrios matriculated from louisiana to pensacola,back to louisiana, and finally settled in pensacola, but it was ALABAMA, not louisiana, sorry about that, but their still maybe some connectin. Again check the 1900, 1910 census

Hello, my greatgrand father was from louisiana, his name is Emanuel Barrios(Barrias) his DOB Oct. 1861, his wife was Lizzie Barrios. My mother who is just deceased, said that he was born in Barcelona Spain, some of the early census have him coming from spain, others state louisiana. He and my greatgrand mother matriculated from louisiana, to Pensacola, Fla. and finally settled in Pensacola. None of the names you mentioned are familiar to me. If there is someone older than your grandfather Lawrence, share this info with them. We might have a connection. Emanuel was a barber in pensacola. Lizzie, who was a cherrokee indian, died in 1934, not sure of Emanuel. Take this info, and see what you come up with. I discovered the Bentley family tree and they are related. Good Luck
