Do you have anything specific about the hometown of the Barthelemy family? A couple of us are looking for a Pierre Barthelemy, who had a son Sebastian. Since names sometimes run in families, I thought I would ask about your specific family's place of origin. This Sebastian ended up in the immigrant French community in Crawford Co., PA.

I know it has been over 10 years since you posted this. Someone only recently suggested to me to try the message boards. I am a Barthelemy from East Central Illinois; I was raised in Champaign-Urbana. My father was Harvey Ellsworth Barthelemy, b: 1/17/1935; d: 2/5/2010; he married my mother, Fern L. Noble. There are three of us born to this marriage: Elizabeth Pauline, 6/9/1958; Kevin Lee, 9/13/1959; and, Katherine Ann, 3/1/1960. His father was Ivan Joseph Barthelemy b: 3/3/1908; d: 7/30/1999; he had 5 brothers and 4 sisters; he was the fifth child;he married my grandmother, Pauline Louise Rewerts. Grandpa's dad was Harvey Lane Barthelemy, b: 10/28/1868; d; 1/20/1955 who was married to Samantha Katherine Tackett.

I was looking through some of the things that I believed belonged to my father and ran across a Dept of Def Immunization Certificate that has the name of Virgil E. Barthelemy Jr on it. The shots were from the late 60's. Not sure how I came to have this but if someone is interested and can confirm they are a relative, I will be more than happy to send it to them. It also states "Duplicate of previous record." Earliest date is May '68 for Yellow Fever. Email me - tlither@hotmail.com, subject - Barthelemy record.

I am hoping to get it back up and going. Thanks for the info about Southern Illinois. I'll be sure to expand my research to that area - just incase I get a match.

Thanks again
Cindy
cmgreen57@yahoo.com

Hi Judy!

I still have very limited information on my line of BARTHELEMY/BARTHOLOMEWs. When I ask my mom's older brother and sister about them they just keep saying that my mom probably remembers more than they do since she is younger, but she is now 70 years old... and she keeps saying that the older siblings should remember more than her since she was so young... ugh.... family togetherness there... just can't stand it! HA

I will hand onto your email address in case I do come across something more concrete.

Thanks for the note!!

Take care and God bless America!

Cindy

I was born in Louisiana and my Dad was from New Orleans.
If you are like me, every time I moved to a new town, the first thing I look for are Barthelemys.
It would be great if all of the Barthelemys get together and have a Barthelemy reunion somewhere.
The other people don't know it, but we, the Barthelemys, are some of the greatest people in the world.
I am presently 69 years old and my wife and I would love to meet other Barthelemys around the country.
I would travel anywhere to meet them!!
Your web entries concerning John Barthelemy and family were most interesting. I'm attempting to write brief biographies of veterans from Posey County, Indiana who served in the 19th Century. During the Mexican War, John Barthelemy was a Private who enrolled in 1847 from New Harmony, Indiana in Company D, 16th U.S. Infantry. He returned briefly to Posey County after the war then moved in the early 1850s to Illinois. I believe he is your family member.

My hope is you might be willing to share information. I'm particularly interested in John, his parents, wife, and children. I believe he may have had a brother, Isidor, and if so, their father was likely Francis Barthelemy.

I am not a Barthelemy, but for my dissertation research I am trying to track down--if they are still living--Charles L. Barthelemy and his wife Sarah Mae Gray, who married sometime before 1955 (I think) in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana and then moved to Chicago. If anyone knows them or their descendants and thinks they may be interested in helping me, please have them get in touch with me. They can read a little about my dissertation on my website:
http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~dwilliam/thesis.html

Hi Fernand,

how are you? thanks a lot for your reponse. Mmm... yes, I think will use spanish, it's easier for me... thanks.

Bueno, así que de Fooz no tiene nada que ver con Foz... teniía la esperanza de que Foz fuera un error ortográfico y procediera de de Fooz. Bueno, he seguido una pista falsa. Volver a empezar.

Y otro en Brasil llamado Foz do Iguaçu.

Atentamente
Eli

Hi Elisabet,

Thank you for the attention you give to my request.
In order to answer to your question, I can tell you that the name "de Fooz" is coming for the family who lived in the village "Fooz" near Liege, Belgium. It is absolutely not the same as "Foz". Maybe somewhere one can find the misspelling "de Foz", but that's clearly a mistake.
So, unfortunately, I don't think there's a relation between the two names, unless you find some ancestors in Belgium.
I wish you good luck, and - if you want to write in Spanish, that's no problem. I have a good friend who is Spanish, she can translate for me.

Good luck and hope to hear from you.

Fernand

Hi Fernand,

first of all sorry because my english is not very good.I'm Elisabet Foz, spanish girl of 20 y.o. It's my ilusion to make my genealogy tree and find my ancestors. So, I visited your page about Ancestry; I was looking for history of my surname Foz and I guess if Foz is same that Fooz, but in actuality. In your page I could see the name of three enfants o Léonard-Dieudonnée de Fooz are not de Fooz, are de Foz.

Thanks a lot for your attention.
Yours
Eli

I had always been told that my grandmother's name was Bartholemew; however, according to the 1920 census, her last name was Barthelemy. Her father was Paul and her morther was Ida. She had several brothers and sisters, namely, Bertrand, Hackey, Lucille, Lillian, Juanita, Paul, Jr. and another sister whose name I can't make out. My father died when I was very young, therefore limited info is available. The family was fron St. John the Baptist Parish and lived in Laplace. Any info others may have would be appreciated. They lived in Krebs, OK.
Walter W. Hammond lived in Krebs, OK.

Verna married Ronald J. Barthelemy (27FEB1913-2JUN1972). They are buried in Baldwin cemetery near Cravens.

The Latimer County obituary index shows the following members of the Barthelemy family: Fatina, Johnny, Robert Randall, and Robert Ronald (22DEC1935-9OCT1999).

********************

I am trying to find the descendants of the first person listed, James Harvey Hammond. He lived in McCurtain, OK, in 1918. Anything you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Tonya,
Great hearing from you. Your G Grndpa Harvey s/h/b/ born 10-28-68. Our relative is Daniel, his older brother born 8/4/57. I have the other brothers and sisters and their dates of birth if you need them. Their were 9 total. Our branch has been filled in pretty well, but we don't know what happened to the other two brothers that came over with Jean Baptiste (Harvey's Dad). I have info that is spotty going back to Jean's G G Grandpa in France and what their employment was, etc. A family member of ours living in Idaho has worked extensively and made books for the family of all the info she located. Tell me what you would like and I will try to fill you in as I get time. Do you by chance know what happened to the other two brothers? Their names were Felix and Isadore (he may have been changed to Theodore). I also have copies of a lot of the family pictures such as Jean and Sarah (Greenwood), some of the schools the kids went to and various members of the family. I assume you still live in the Jasper County area??? Let me know and maybe we can get together somewhere in between or something. Gotta run. Take care...Judy
Judy, I was so happy to hear from you. I will explain how we come in. Roy Barthelemy is my husband, his dad Virgil Barthelemy, his grandpa Bernard Barthelemy, his great-grandpa Harvey Barthelemy, his g-g-grandpa John Barthelemy. The reason this is so hard is because Virgil was only 4 years old when Bernard was killed in an auto accident and Roys grandma remarried. I have been going through the Richland County and Jasper County Courthouses and both libraries. I have went to Champaign, IL twice looking but I am about 3 hours south of Champaign, IL and it makes it hard we have a 7 year old little boy with him in school. Roy also has four other children from another marriage but they are all grown and out on their own. I did find the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery where John, Bernard, & E.Woodrow are buried. It has been a year since I started, I do have a lot of information and dates but I also have a lot of blanks. If I have anything you might need please let me know and I'll be happy to give it to you. My e-mail is ronald@wworld.com
Thank you for your reply.
P.S. Would you please tell me what branch that you and your family comes in? I am real happy you replied.
Thanks Again,
Tonya Barthelemy
Interesting, my husband's name is Jerry also. Do you know Peter's father and grandfather's name? Our ancestor came over with two brothers, Felix and Isadore (may be known as Theodore) and we are having trouble tracking them. Could they be one of yours and a missing link of ours? I think I have all the Illinois info. Thanx for writing. Judy
I have a geneology book of my family going back to 1697. There is no Peter Barthelemy on the records. The cities in France where some of the early ones came from are: Housseres, Autrey, St. Benoit.
Diane

His family was from Alsace Lorraine, France.
My father's brother had one son.....and I am the only boy our our family.
