Thank you so much for the response. My Clarinda was born @1829 according to 1850 census. That would make your Benjamin Bartlett too young to be her father.Still a mystery!

Charlotte, it's been quite a while since these posts. I hope you are still visiting this site.

I am now living just south of Oak Hill (Jackson Co) and am just starting to get a chance to visit some of the local cemeteries. Mom said that Mollie would be rolling over in her grave if she knew I moved back down here. lol

I found a death record for Rebecca (Whaley) Radcliff that says she is buried in Pleasant Grove Cem. Unfortunatley, I didn't find a marker. Did find her and Vincent's son, Isaac though. Also found Vincent's uncle Stephen's tombstone (b.1807, d.1847).

Do you have a death date for Vincent or a location where he is buried?

I'm sorry to say that Joy's children were estranged from her when I knew her. Did not get along with her at all.Joy always claimed that "her twin sister died", so everyone assumed she meant that she was a twin. Joy's mother lived with her briefly before her mother passed away, but they did not get on well either, and mother moved out with a lady companion.
Darla

I think my line ties into Bilbo. My ggg granddad's gravestie has "Reverend" on it. He was William Green (headstone says George) Bartlett 1799-1882, MS. His father has been initially identified as VA-078 in our DNA project. Born about 1765 (ie possbily Bilbos line). oh and that Bilbe connection. It is still alive though deeply devastated....reply to me in confidence at larry@ldbartlett.com if you want...

I'am working on this family but so far i haven't ran across any documents where it has given Henry B.'s middle name. I ran across a person who said he had a Bible on this family, his name was Tim, he left his email address but haven't heard back from him. The post at "another site" was dated Sept 3, 2001, and found no other post from him after that date. Sure would like to have that bible information! The bible could be where Henry B. Bartlett's middle name was mentioned. If interested please email me at...pixeypoo3@yahoo.com

I am sorry to hear about Joy. I have never met her but I knew her mother. No one is in touch.

I've collected her family's genealogy, as Joy, through her mother's line, are connected to me via my father. I don't know if any of Joy's family are interested in this information (?).

I have a copy of Joy's birth record and it does not say she is a twin. It says she is the second child born to Zepherine & William Bartlett.

As I said previously, Joy's older sister died in an auto accident in the 1950s. They were only about a year apart in age, b. 1933 and 1934.

Thanks for your reply.

I am searching for information on Levi Bartlett of Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, born 1772, most probably son of Robert Bartlett, and Jean Spooner both of Plymouth, MA. Levi married Mary (or possibly Polly) Tinkham b. 1773(or Tinkcom) in 1793.
Levi later relocated to Norway, Oxford, Maine in approx. 1795. He had 4 children with Mary Tinkham, who died in 1802. after which Levi Married an older relative of Mary, Abigail Gorham. Levi died in 1818 the same year as two of his children. I need citations for Levi's birth or marriage or both, verifying lineage to Robert Bartlett and Jean Spooner.

Sorry to keep you waiting. I am presently traveling. My friend Joy is the Bartlett, and I haven't seen her for a few years myself now. She is in a rest home, and I don't even know which one. Joy is the twin whose sister passed away those many years ago now. I'm not related to Bartletts so far as I remember off hand. I have a very old New England tree (Mayflower- like the Bartletts, but I think they are Alden, and I am 4 other families), so I may have a Bartlett or two, but not in any of my friend Joy's lines.
Best regards- Darla

A follow-up on my own posting - new DNA evidence.

From matching DNA from various descendants we now know that the following BARTLETT lines have a common ancestor:

Samuel BARTLETT b 1690s m Catherine; lived Essex Co, VA 1710-1716; Spotsylvania Co, VA 1727-1729; Prince George Co, VA 1730-1733 (when son William was born - William moved down through VA and finally settled in Warren Co, NC where he died in 1807)

James BARTLETT b 1760 VA (Halifax Co?); d 1823 Patrick Co, VA (m Tempy WHITLOCK)

William BARTLETT b c1784; moved to and lived in Weakley Co, TN

Starling/Sterling BARTLETT b c1783 VA, d 1862; m 1797 GA

Thomas BARTLETT b 1731 Somerset, England; had a son Thomas who lived in South Pedderton, England.

[revised to remove John BARTLETT b 1678 England, d 1761 Norwalk, CT]

I call these lines DNA Group G, and they share a common ancestor - somewhere.

These BARTLETT lines do NOT share a common BARTLETT ancestor with the other Essex/Spotsylvania Co, VA BARTLETTs (Group D) who went to KY; or the southern VA BARTLETT who lived in Henry Co, VA and later moved to White/Overton Co, TN (Group F) - which BARTLETT are now shown to match the Mayflower BARTLETTs and BARTLETTs from Buncombe Co, NC and Green Co, KY; or to the BARTLETTs from Richmond Co, VA (Group B); or to the BERKLEYs (some descendants are still BARTLETTs) from Westmoreland/Loudoun Co, VA.

I hope by showing which lines DO tie together to James BARTLETT b 1760 VA (m Tempy) (and which lines DON'T), this may help in further reseach on the ancestors of James BARTLETT.

Jim Bartlett
jim4bartletts@verizon.net (new)

Hi Peggy,

I'm sure you have more than I do. I just started on this line, so I don't have a lot of information confirmed yet. This is what I have so far:

Caroline Bartlett Higgins, b. 21 Feb 1805, Orland, Hancock, Maine (m. Elijah Winslow Grindall). Maine ODM, indexing project C50373-1, source film 11726.

Caroline B. is the dau. of Charles M. Higgins and Nancy Bartlett; Nancy was b. 18 Apr 1783, Orland, Hancock, Maine or Cumberland, Providence, Rhode Island (records appear for both places; that was the year Israel moved from RI to ME). Maine ODM, indexing project C50373-1, source film 11726.

Nancy is the dau. of Israel Bartlett and Caroline Balcom.

Israel was born 5 Apr. 1737 in Rhode Island, according to "The Bartletts: Ancestral, Genealogical, Biographical, Historical" by Thomas Edward Bartlett. He is the son of Noah Bartlett and Elizabeth Phillips. Israel appears in the 1790 and 1800 census in Mount Desert, Hancock, Maine, where his older brother Christopher first came to Bartlett Island (a.k.a. Mount Desert, or Seaville, or Bar Harbor) in 1770, according to "The History of Mount Desert, Maine" by George J. Varney.

I see that Christopher married a Razee, which must be your line.

I will have to take a trip to the National Archives soon to look up the Bartletts on the Revolutionary War Unit Rolls to discover information about their service. The Bartlett book says Christopher was a Lt. and Israel was Lt. and Captain in the French and Indian War and RW War. I will also be going to Rhode Island this summer and will see if there will be time to visit the Cumberland vital records office.

Would be interested in whatever you have on the Bartletts.

Tammy

While this is an old post, I am replying because I have some relevant information. I do not know about Judith but I can speak to the fact that some of the families in the South Boston area of Halifax Co., Virginia originated in Massachusetts. It is known that John Justice and wife Mary Moore came from Scituate, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts and later settled in Halifax Co., VA in the mid-1700s. There was a colonial road which went from Boston to New York and on to Richmond and Raleigh. Halifax Co. is just a couple counties west of this road.

I have been researching the Perry family of Hart Co., Kentucky for many years. Recently, I came across some dna results which placed them with Farnborough, Hampshire, England Perrys. These Perrys settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. It appears that they migrated to Virginia in the mid-1700s, perhaps with this same Bartlett-Cole-Milam family. They lived in Halifax Co., VA and neighboring Granville Co., NC in the late 1700s and early 1800s. My ancestor, Bartlett Perry, was probably named after this same Bartlett family. He was born about 1786 in Granville Co., NC. He died in Hart Co., KY after 1860. More research needs to be done to establish all of the links back to the Boston, MA area.

Wm. B. Lapham, "History of the Town of Rumford," page 166, Freeborn Bartlett, Private, War of 1812. Freeborn was son of Stephen Bartlett. This relates to the Bartlett line from Joseph Bartlett (1630) Newton, MA.

I would suggest that you search Google Books, Lapham or Hibner (also a bartlett descendent), both genealogy researchers of the period.

Linda

A search of "1812" in the Ancest.com list of military records and subsequent search in that data base name "Bartlett" brings up a list of 313 suggestions (which is doubtless inflated).

So, my suggestion would be to noodle around (key word) "1812" in the military records, then once there search "Bartlett". If you have a first name, that would also be helpful in limiting the search results.

Good luck and enjoy!
Linda

Searching for more information on Mary Jane Bartlett who married David Griffin in 1884 after immigrating from England in 1873 or 1875. Mary Jane was a widow when she married David at about age 34. Trying to determine who her first husband was. Possibly Charles Bartlett who immigrated to Galveston in 1873 with David Griffin. This contradicts an old family story that Mary Jane's family all died in a flu epidemic in England.
Family information also says her maiden name was Mary Jane Smith before marrying a Bartlett.

Through some good research by others the family of Robert BARTLETT 1762-c1818 is now better known though estate and property records in New Madrid Co, MO and nearby KY.

Robert had a first wife and several children, she died and he 2m 12 Jan 1797 Harrison Co, VA to Susannah HAYMOND (dau of William HAYMOND & Casandra CLELLAND). Robert is listed in the Harrison Co, VA PP Tax List from 1787 to 1809. In 1809 he (and probably his brother Richard and half-brother Jesse) moved to New Madrid Co, VA. Robert bought land there that year. Robert died about 1818. New Madrid Co, MO Deed of 4 Feb 1819, Starling BARTLETT and Catharine, his wife; Nancy BARTLETT; John L SOMMERVILL and Mary Ann, his wife, formerly Mary Ann BARTLETT, all of Harrison Co, VA appoint Thomas BARTLETT of Missouri Terr our lawful attorney to receive for us from Susannah BARTLETT, the widow of Robert BARTLETT, deceased, who died intestate our part of the estate of Robert BARTLETT as his heirs.

From the same group of New Madrid Co, MO records we have:

New Madrid Co, MO Court 14 Feb 1825: Sterling BARTLETT, infant heir of Scarlett BARTLETT, above the age of 14, chose Rebecca BARTLETT, his mother as guardian. [Rebecca b c1784 m 1805 Harrison Co, VA Scarlet BARTLETT b c1781 (son of John BARTLETT & Anne BARKLEY) - they evidently went to New Madrid Co, MO c1809 too.] Sterling returned to Harrison Co, VA and married Olive BARTLETT.

Thanks to Gail Miller, CG, who researched the heirs of Robert BARTLETT for this info.

Jim Bartlett jim4bartletts@verizon.net
The following is how we get to Frances starting with her father.

Eugene Bartlett B. 1845 New York
Oliver G Bartlett B. 1820 New Hartford, NY
Abner Bartlett B 1771 Cumberland, RI
Rufus Bartlett B. 1739 Glocester,Providence, RI
Abner Bartlett B. 1705 Glocester, Providence, RI
Jacob Bartlett B. 1676 Attleboro, Mass
John Bartlett B sometime between 1640-1644 in RI or Mass. He was married to Sarah Aldridge in 1665 in Braintree, Mass. In Sarah's father (George) will, it states the John's father is Richard.
Do you by chance happen to know the date and place of birth for Richard and also who his wife was.

Thank you,

Linda

John Dennis Bartlett

Looking for info on family of John Dennis Bartlett, b. 12 June, 1914, in Vermilion County, Illinois. Father's name Frank Bartlett. John was given up for adoption as a baby, possibly as result of mother's death. Would like to know mother's maiden name, and what became of Frank.

Think I found Ella's older children

I found an Amy Page with the right parents (Ella and Frank) who got married in Maine in 1907. However she would have been born in 1886 not 1896. and her last name after marriage was Hallett. If the census data is off for Florida it could be the same person, still going to research the idea that the Amy Bartlett listed is from C.E. first marriage and probably living with someone else when he remarried (I have both Ella's older daughters living in NH in 1900).
