Attention UK BARTLETTs - Holiday SALE on DNA Testing

Family Tree DNA has announced a pretty good sale on DNA testing that is paid for before 12/31/08.

We'd really like to get some more lines from the UK tested.

I can’t quote pricing here, but the cost of the 37 marker test (Y-DNA37) is almost down to what the 12 marker test was.

This is probably a result of competition with some new companies in the DNA business, as well as fancy new equipment that makes the testing more efficient.

FTDNA is by far the largest and best DNA company – fair, professional, responsive, etc. We recently had a an unusual result, so I sent an email to FTDNA – within 12 hours the President wrote me back and said they agreed with me and that they’d do the retest gratis – usually there’s a fee involved, but the fee is refunded if the second test does come back different.

Here’s a recap of the testing:

Use the link below to join the project and purchase your DNA test.
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=C45062

Cost: All on sale – check it out at the link above. Many in the BARTLETT-DNA Project are now ordering the 37-marker test, which is on sale.

The TEST: FTDNA sends a kit with plastic sticks, vials, a preaddressed mailer and instructions. Just rub the inside of your cheek with the stick, put the end of the stick in a vial, repeat, and mail it in – no blood, no pain – it’s like brushing your teeth.

Jim Bartlett
Joseph Bartlett - Closworth, Somerset

I'd be grateful for any details re the birth of Jospeph Barlett. I suspect he was born in Closworth, Somerset in about 1841 ( but cannot find a corresponding birth certificate). Previous coresspondance on these boards suggests his father was Solomon and he is as elusive in the records as his son. Joseph married Matilda Gillingham (between 1851 & 1861), but I cannot find a marriage certificate. They had 9 children that i know of : Elizabth, Emma, Eliza, Hannah, William, Mary, Agnes, Arthur and Lillian. The only one of these I have details of is Agnes, my great great grandmother - who married into the Connock Family. Any help or pointers greatfully recieved and if I can help anyone let me know

Jerusha Bartlett, George Peckham

In the Peckham Genealogy by Stephen Farnum Peckham, it states on page 275 that Captain George Peckham's second wife was Jerusha Bartlett, daughter of Josiah and Mary Bartlett. Josiah was a physician, the Governor of New Hampshire, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. However, I have done research on the Barlett family and cannot find any reference that suggests that Josiah and Mary had a daughter named Jerusha. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks,
Pat McIntyre

Family Tree DNA has announced a significant sale on DNA testing for new members – I cannot quote pricing here, but will be happy to share them with anyone who is interested.

I can say that for the cost of a Y-chromosome 12-marker or 25-marker test, they will add in mitochondrial DNA test free (good for men only)

They also offer significant savings on other tests and combinations.

If you have ever thought about joining a DNA Project, now is the time!

Join the BARTLETT-DNA Project or go to www.familytree.dna and look up a project for your own SURNAME.

The offer ends at midnight on 31 August 2008.

Use the link below to join the project and purchase your DNA test.
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=C45062

The reduced prices come up with the link above, or I can send an email with them directly to you.

Jim Bartlett
jim4bartletts@verizon.net

Rescued Photo, BARTLET Surname, Charleston, IL

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them, and attempt to locate family to send them to.

I obtained one of a young woman, I'd guess between the ages of 15-25, dressed nicely with a strand of dark beads/pearls around her neck. Her hair is pulled back with a ribbon in it and her ears are pierced?! It was taken in Carlston, Illinois I'm going to guess in the mid to late 1800s. She is identified as Nellie Bartlet. The writing is rather "crude" so her name could be BARTLETT?

If you'd like to obtain it, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

When Edward applied for a Social Security number in May 1937, he reported the above as his date and place of birth, and he said that his father's name was Edward W. BARTLETT and his mother Laura ADAMS. I have been unable to verify any of the above. Can you help?

I am looking for his parents. This Charles, who married Clara Crouse, was, at one time the general manager of Proctor and Gamble and at the time of his death, president of Orangeine Chemical Co. in Chicago. He was born in New York and died 3/7/1909 in Chicago. His body was returned to Syracuse for burial so I assume he had lived there for a period of time. Clara was born there. She traveled abroad frequently and reported her birth as 1/26 with a different year nearly every time. the earliest was 1859 and the latest 1863. Her death notice in 1934 said she was in her 78th year. She and Charles had one son, Valentine Crouse Bartlett.

I am searching for my lineage from Nellie Lorinda Caldon (1861-1884, born Campton, NH died Rumney, NH) back. Her parents were Harrison Green Tyler Caldon (1827-1902) and Luella Gordon (1826-1921).

Harrison's mother was possibly a Susan Bartlett, and his father was possible Robert Caldon. Harrison was born in Rumney, NH. I'm having difficulty finding any census or other public records regarding Harrison or his parents.
Bartlett Descendent, have some pictures.

Hi Everyone!

I am looking for anyone who may be interested and offer me some insight on some family pictures. My grandmother left us a family photo album and unfortunately I couldn't remember all the stories and we didn't mark all of the pictures. Majority of them I do have marked. Apparently from what my grandmother told me, Josiah Bartlett was my 5th Great Uncle?? I have many pictures of the Bartletts in the early 1900's and they are more on the relatives I know. I do have some from the 1800's as well but not to many. I have one picture that is supposed to be Josiah Bartlett himself but I am not sure if this is him or if my grandma told me it was his son. It is an orginal picture and if anyone thinks they could distinguish if it is him or his son, I would very much appreciate the help. I also have a picture that was taken in 1885 of a John Bartlett (who is supposed to be a closer relative of Josiah) and he is middle aged in this picture. Other names that I have plenty of pictures are florence and frances (sisters),dorothy, gertrude and some misc. others. If there is a connection anywhere, please feel free to reply and I will be more than happy to scan some and send them over.

Josiah Bartlett's great-granddaughter?

In my family history my grandmother wrote in a letter "Josiah Bartlett was my grandmother Hathaway's great-grandfather. She lived with Josiah Bartlett and his wife until she was 18 years old." Unfortunately, grandma Senteney didn't name exactly which person she meant. I think the woman's first name was Maria and possibly last name Smith or Bayles. Anybody can help with this one??
(This is the one who signed the Declaration of Independence)

BARTLETT-DNA Project Summary June 2008

BARTLETT-DNA Groups at a Glance
Unless otherwise noted, the results within a group match (within 23/25); and there is at least 21/25 mismatch between Groups

Goals for BARTLETT-DNA Project
1. Determine each and every separate BARTLETT line in Colonial America and England
2. Determine the BARTLETT immigrant for each line to Colonial America
3. Develop locations and geography in England for BARTLETT immigrants

Family Tree DNA recently posted a revised Phylogenetic Chart [a chart showing the main branches of the tree of mankind, with smaller branches, twigs, leaves, etc.] You can get more info on Haplogroups and view the old and new Charts at http://www.familytreedna.com/hap_nomenclature.html

As more research is done and the database of DNA samples grows, the tree of mankind can be drawn with more and more detail. Each small twig on this tree is considered a separate Haplogroup, and those within a Haplogroup share a common ancestor thousands of years ago. This is often called our “Deep Ancestry”, and it can be very interesting – you can google your haplogroup and find out much more about it.

I’m listing below the 15 BARTLETT lines (established by DNA testing) and the Haplogroups that have been identified for each. In most cases FTDNA can run an additional “Deep Clade” test on your DNA on file with them, and determine more precisely where you are on the tree. Only one person from each group needs to order a Deep Clade test as the results would be the same for everyone in that group. So please post an announcement if you are going to do so, so your cousins will know. I've already done it for Group B.

Group B [Team 3]; Richmond Co, VA [9 matching participants] [Note 5]
Haplogroup E1b1b1a2 [was E3b1] - This lineage is found in high frequencies in Europe, and can also be found in northeastern Africa. It is most frequent in the Balkans, but is rare in the Near East outside of Turkey. Estimates of its age vary from 11,000 to 17,000 years ago. It likely originated in western Asia, reached the Balkans shortly afterwards, and from there spread into Europe within the last 5,000 years.
Note 5: By Deep Clade test for 5960, this group is Haplogroup E1b1b1a2 (was E3b1a2), which may be from the Roman militia recruited by the thousands from the Balkans to occupy Britain from c43-400AD. When these Balkan soldiers retired they were given Roman citizenship and allowed to settle and raise families in Britain. The largest concentrations of these soldiers (based on history & archeology) were in Wales, Essex Co, and along the East Coast (North Sea south to the English Channel). These same areas have the highest concentrations of E1b1ba2 DNA in the UK.

Group C [incl Team 4]; Dobbs Co, NC & Somerset Co, MD [9 matching participants]
Haplogroup R1b1b2 - Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.

Group D [Team 7]; VA; Spotsylvania Co, VA [2 matching participants (23/25)]
Haplogroup R1b1b2 (was R1b1c) - Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.

Group E: BERK[E]LEY from Westmoreland and Loudoun Co, VA; [2 matching participants (24/25)]
Haplogroup R1b1b2 - Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations.
Smith / Lunt Family Bible with Julia Ann Bartlett

Hi All -- I've rescued an old Family Bible that probably belonged to Frank W. Smith (b. 1856) and his wife, Harriet B. Lunt (b. 1854). Frank's parents were Wooster Smith and Mary Ann Sergent. Harriet's parents were Daniel Lunt and JULIA ANN BARTLETT.

Frank and Harriet's wedding certificate (1878)from Newburyport, MA is in the Bible (in GREAT shape), as are some pages of Smith / Gerrish / Sergent family history.

I'm attaching the wedding certificate that lists Julia Ann Bartlett Lunt. The Bible is in very good condition and was published in 1874.

I'm happy to share this information but am really hoping to find this Bible's extended family and return it home.

Sue sug53@earthlink.net

Wells (b.ca. 1836)of Buffalo, NY and Erie County, PA, and his daughter Marie Wells (b.ca.1871) who married Frank L. Fay. Thanks for any help.

Aaron Bartlett of Granby applied for a pension after the Rev. War. My ancestor, Oliver Bartlett of nearby Hadley, signed the application. Does anyone know the relationship, if any, between the two men? Oliver is my "brickwall." He's probably the son of Henry Bartlett of Hadley who died 1755, but this is unproven. My Oliver, b. c.1743, is NOT the Oliver of Granby, b. 1754.

In the 1820 census of Gates is found, Gershum, Eliot, and Orange on the same page. I believe these might be father Elliott and Uncles Gershum and Orange. All from VT. Elliott Jr shows up on the 1840 census in Gates.

Elliott would be my GGG grandfather, his wife Waity Lewis. The children of Elliot and Waity, I have found were my GG Grandmother Louisa (1820), Hattie and Charlott. Louisa marries John Adams, he dies after their first child Elliott is born. Later she marries Solomon Salisbury from Colon, St. Joseph, MI.

Would like to hear from anyone researching this family.
Thanks, Carol

Was Orrin R. Sayles married to Jerusha Bartlett or to Sarah J. Olmste(a)d?

OneWorldTree suggests that Jerusha Bartlett was married to Orrin Sayles. However, Michigan Marriages, 1851-1875 indicates a marriage between Orrin Sayles and Sarah Jane Olmste(a)d, and the U.S. Censuses show Orrin and Sarah Sayles. I am interested in any sources or other information showing the connection to Jerusha Bartlett. Thanks.

John Bartlett, b. ca. 1805 NC, mar. in Rutherford Co., NC 1832 Rebecca Sorrels. Of Rutherford Co. on 1840-1860 Census (Mountain Creek area); had daughters Martha and Matilda. No other Bartletts in Rutherford at this time (except Orvis Bartlett, unrelated, from MA). Perhaps related to Joseph Bartlett (b. ca. 1800 NC), of McDowell Co. in 1850, Yancey 1860, Haywood Co., NC 1880). Was he related to Bartletts in Buncombe Co., NC? Any clues appreciated.

Looking for some help.. John or Dorothy Bartlett

I have pictures and some names of the Bartletts in my family but I can't place all of the names.

My great grandmother was Mary Jessie Davis, who was the child of Florence Bartlett.Florence had a sister named Jessie Francis (she died in her twenties in the early 1900's) and the census shows they had a brother named roy. One of the pictures I have shows John Bartlett (My ggg grandfather) in 1885, and it says it was taken in Washington DC and his wife and kids lived in IL (kids were born in CO.) but his name is not in the census that I found with the family. He is really the only male Bartlett name I have right now, besides a picture of one of the Josiahs. The back of Johns picture also states he was Jessie Childs husband, and according to the census with the kids, he was born in Massach.

I also have tons of pictures of a Dorothy Bartlett that were taken in the late early 1900's. I am assuming this is Roys daughter but can't confirm. Her full name was Dorothy Royanne Bartlett.

Last, I was told my grandmothers cousins were part of the D.A.R group in IL. They are very willing to help me but I need to find the name of the member that was in there and from there, they can help trace me back to Josiah from the D.O.I (Grandma told me he would of been my 4th or 5th great uncle).

I would appreciate any help but I am trying to see if anyone would know anything about John (his wife was born in 1860 so I am assuming same time frame), if anyone has a Dorothy or knows of one in any of their lines, or if anyone knows of the bartletts from the lake forest, IL D.A.R.

Thanks again. I am attaching the picture I have of John taken in 1885, Washington DC.

Josiah BARTLETT 1729-1795, the signer

Growing up, my grandma told me and my sisters we were descended from the signer. Had to be correct since grandma told us, right? WRONG, I proved it and my sisters got a little up set about it.

Turns out, Josiah is a third cousin, seven generations removed. Conclusion: Some where up the line in my ancestors, some one remarks, "Oh, we have a cousin Josiah BARTLETT." As that is passed on down in the seven generations, cousin gets upgraded to "ancestor." Grandma wasn't willingly telling a fib - that is just what she had heard.

Over the years, I have found that being descended from the signer is pretty well a standard tradition in many families with BARTLETT ancestry.

Here are some notes with sources cited that I have gathered:

Financially unable to attend college, Josiah Bartlett began an apprenticeship under Dr. Nehemiah Ordway in 1747. In 1750 Dr. Bartlett set up his practice in the relatively new town of Kingston, New Hampshire. He continued to practice for the next forty years, even while in politics (The papers of Josiah Bartlett, p. xvii).

In 1754 he married his first cousin Mary Bartlett and they had twelve children, eight living to adulthood (ibid).

By 1765 he had entered politics as the representative of Kingston to the New Hampshire assembly. In 1775 he was a delegate to the Continental congress at Philadelphia and in July 1776 he was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Josiah Bartlett was the first to vote for independence, and the second to sign the Declaration, after John Hancock (Essex Antiquarian, 7:1:Jan 1903:6-7).

In 1787-1788 he was a member of the conventions for devising and adopting a plan for the government of the United States. In 1790-1791 he was president of New Hampshire under the temporary constitution, and in 1792 became the first governor of New Hampshire (ibid).

If interested, you can see my data (with sources cited) on Josiah BARTLETT at:

http://tinyurl.com/2ylpsq

BARTLETT-DNA Project Update Feb 2008

We now have 123 Participants [which include 3 individuals who got mtDNA tests, which would trace a female/non-BARTLETT ancestry].

We now have at least 13 known lines which trace back to Colonial America - despite DNA results from 5 men who are from English BARTLETT lines, but with no known tie to America, we still do not have any DNA match between an English BARTLETT and an American BARTLETT.

Our project is now open to any male BARTLETT - we need a larger database, and we need participants from unknown, or orphaned, BARTLETT lines. If you know any male BARTLETT, please try to interest him in genealogy, and our DNA project.

Through DNA, we have now sorted out 3 separate "paternity" issues and linked the participant with their biological male line. In these cases their line is still BARTLETT, but through a female line.

As you know, there are many variant spellings for BARTLETT/BARTLEY. we have included all of them in our BARTLETT-DNA Project. In fact we have now proved one BARTLEY line which descended from a BARTLETT, and one BARTLETT line which descended from a BERKELEY/BERKLEY. We also have other BARTLEYs, as well as a BARKLEY, BARTTELOT, BARCLIFT, and BURKLEY in our project. Plus two men with other surnames, who were adopted from a BARTLETT line. The DNA doesn't care what your surname is.

A new FTDNA Surname Group is stating up for BARCLAY/BARKLEY, and I have agreed to give that group "rights" to those two surname spellings and remove
them from our list. However, individuals can join any of the surname projects (or even 2 of them).

FTDNA puts out a regular newsletter: "Facts & Genes" with updates on Genetic Genealogy - it is a fascinating field - an new tests are being developed every day. If you don't get this newsletter every other month, and want it, go to the FTDNA web page and subscribe and see what's new at www.familytreedna.com

As a recap of our known lines, I have given each one a letter (so I can keep track), and many also have a Team # from the BARTLETT web page (still a lot of good info there, just not updated in a while).

B - Team 3 - from Richmond Co, VA - E3b1 - 9 matching participants

C - from Dobbs Co, NC and Somerset Co, MD - R1b1 - 9 matching participants

D - Team 7 - from Essex/Spotsylvania Co, VA - R1b1c - 2 matching participants [we could really use one more participant to validate this line]

E - BERKELEY/BERKLEYs from Westmoreland/Loudoun Co, VA [some lines used BARTLETT] - R1b1c - 2 matching participants [we could really use one more participant to validate this line; particularly someone from the Garner BARTLETT line]

F - Teams 9 & 11 - from Plymouth, MA [Mayflower descendants]; and NY; and VA/NC to TN; and Green Co, KY - R1b1c - 16 matching participants [we need more participants to sort out the VA to MA link]

G - Warren Co, NC; and Patrick Co, VA; and Weakley Co, TN; and Starling of GA; and a Canadian - R1b1c - 6 matching participants [we need more participants to link these lines together]

H - Talbot Co, MD; and William b 1823 MS; and Thomas b c1782 GA m MASTIN - R1b1c - 3 matching participants [we need more participants to link these lines together]

I - Team 5 - Newton, MA - "I" - 6 matching participants

J - Team 2 - Newbury, MA [includes Josiah, SDI] - I1a - 7 matching participants

L - William b 1784 NC to KY to Lincoln/Bedford Co, TN - R1b1c - 2 matching participants [need more participants to trace this line back to NC]

M - Marlboro, MA - R1b1 - 3 matching participants [need more participants to trace this line]

N - Robert b 1838 SC; and Edward of Pitt Co, NC - R1b1 - 2 matching participants [need more participants to trace this line]

V - Vermont; and Hampshire Co, MA - 5 matching participants [need more participants to trace this line]

In addition we have the following tentative Groups, but insufficient participation/matching to know for sure:

0 - a BARCLIFT from Perquimans Co, NC [need another BARCLIFT to participate to validate this line, which is said to come from BARTLETTs]

W - Windsor, CT - R1b1c - we have 3 matching participants, but the paper trails are not sufficient yet [we need another participant to validate this line]

Team 1 - Robert of "Lyon" - need two participants

Team 6 - Norwalk, CT - need two participants

Team 9 - MA - we have one participant [need more participants to validate this line]

Team 10 - Weymouth, MA - need two participants

ENGLAND - we need as many more participants from England, Canada, Australia as we can get to find matches and establish lines in those countries; and links to Colonial America.

The bottom line is we have a lot of info and some solid lines, but we need more participants to determine more BARTLETT lines.

Jim Bartlett
BARTLETT-DNA Admin

I am looking for any information on Henry and Dorothy Bartlett of Herkimer, NY. I have some evidence to suggest that two of their children were: Deborah (1792 to 1869) who married James Dorr (originally of Hallowell Maine) who had migrated to Little Falls, NY (near Herkimer); and Sabrina who married Joseph Dorr (older brother of James).

I would appreciate any information that anyone may have on Henry and Dorothy and their children. I have accumulated a lot of information on the Dorr family and would be willing to share any information that I may have.
Ruby Bryant Bartlett

Ruby Bryant was born 9/5/1866 in Ludlow, Allamakee County, Iowa. Her parents, Wilford D and Amy Eliza Walling Bryant moved the family to Mitchell County, Iowa while Ruby was a child. She married Jesse Bartlett in 1892 in Mitchell County. By 1910 the Bartletts were living in Floyd County, Iowa. Jesse died in 1918 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Floyd County. I can not find any information on Ruby and her son Donald Bartlett past the 1930 census in Floyd County. One world tree shows a death date for Ruby of 3/11/1957 but no source info and I cannot verify that. She does not seem to be listed on any cemetery lists that I can find. I don't know if she remarried or moved though I think not. Any help would be appreciated. Susan
I have finished a census extract 1820-1870 (working on 1880) of all BARTLETTs in TN during that time frame. The following is an index of the BARTLETT Heads of Families. If you descend from one of these lines please contact me at jim4bartletts@verizon.net for more information about that line. You'll note the four DNA Groups who settled in TN (F, G, H & L). I'd like to include marriages in this project - please post the records (ie book number and page; or record where the derived marriage is from) and I'll incorporate that info. If your line is not from a known DNA Group, you are strongly encouraged to find a living male BARTLETT descendant to participate in our DNA Project, and find out from which line you descend.

FirstName yr & state born > county [census year] DNA Group:

B F 1790s ?? > Wilson TN [1830]
B F 1820 TN > Montgomery TN [1850]
Cyrus H 1809 TN > Maury-Marshall TN TN-A*
Daniel 1803 KY > MO DNA-FFA1B4
Daniel 1815 KY > Lincoln TN [1840] > IL DNA-L1D
E R 1810 KY > Shelby TN [1860]
Edward 1830 TN > Shelby TN [1850]
Elijah 1770s ?? > Hardeman TN
Evan 1806 TN > Overton TN DNA-FFA1A9
Francis 1814 SC > Lincoln TN DNA-L1B
Gabriel M 1821 TN > Shelby TN [1850]
Henry 1850 TN > Giles TN [1870]
Isaac 1810s ?? > Wilson TN [1840]
Isaac 1822 AL > Montgomery TN [1850]
J 1810s ?? > Giles TN [1840]
James 1783 VA > White TN DNA-FFA1A1
James 1810 TN > Putnam TN [1870-80]
James Mansel 1822 KY > Lincoln TN DNA-L1G
Jane 1823 TN > Wilson TN [1870]
Jesse 1801 TN > MO DNA-FFA1A7
Joel 1815 SC > Bedford TN [1850] DNA-L1C
John 1785 VA > Claiborne TN DNA-FFA1A2
John 1800s ?? > Hardeman TN
John 1810s ?? > Williamson TN [1840]
John C 1810s ?? > Montgomery TN [1840]
Joseph 1767 VA > Hawkins > Overton TN DNA-FFA1A
Joseph S 1796 MA > Williamson TN > AR DNA-F/MA]
Joseph 1796 KY > White TN DNA-FFA1B1
Joseph 1812 TN > Putnam TN [1860]
Joseph 1835 TN > Putnam TN [1860]
Joshua 1767 ?? > KY > White TN DNA-FFA1B
Joshua 1811 TN > Jackson TN DNA-FFA1A11
Lecil 1816 ?? > Bedford TN [1850] DNA-L1E
Liburn 1824 KY > TN [1840] > IL DNA-L1H
Martha 1807 TN > Wilson TN [1850]
Mary 1806 TN > Wilson TN [1840-50]
Nathan 1751 or 1763 VA > White TN DNA-FFC1C
Nathan 1806 KY > White TN [1840] DNA-FFA1B6
Philip 1824 TN > Montgomery TN [1850]
Rufus 1837 TN > Giles TN [1850]
S (f) 1804 TN > Shelby TN [1870]
S A 1847 TN > Shelby TN [1860]
Samuel 1780 NC > Hickman TN [1850]
Samuel 1790s ?? > Davidson TN [1840]
Thomas 1782 GA >SC>Robertson TN DNA-HHA; TN-B*
Thomas M 1802 TN > Maury-Tipton TN TN-A*
William 1784 ?? > Weakley TN [1830-50]> MO DNA-GGC
William 1784 NC > Bedford-Lincoln TN DNA-L1
William 1790 ?? > Robertson TN [1830-40] TN-B*
William 1796 TN > Shelby TN [1850] ?B
William 1800s ?? > Marshall TN [1840] TN-A*
William 1804 TN > Jackson-Putnam TN DNA-FFA1A8
William 1817 TN > Benton [1860-80] TN parents b GA/SC
William 1821 VA?/TN > White[1850]-Putnam[1860] TN
William 1830 TN > Hickman TN [1860]
William T 1831 TN > Marshall TN [1860]
William 1835 TN > Shelby TN [1870]

TN-A* appear to be brothers
TN-B* appear to be brothers

Feedback on this project is welcome.
BARTLETT BERKLEY link established with DNA

Very exciting news for many BARTLETTs and BERKLEYs - we now have 24/25 matching DNA results:

One from William BERKLEY b 1690 of Westmoreland and Loudoun Co, VA through his son Benjamin BERKLEY

Another from William BERKLEY b 1690 of Westmoreland and Loudoun Co, VA through his son William BARTLETT/BERKLEY

William BARTLETT/BERKLEY d 1804 in Loudoun Co, VA - most of his children went to KY and in the census records from 1810 to 1840 they gradually changed their surname from BARTLETT back to BERKLEY/BERKELEY. One of William's sons, Garner/Gardner, however, went to Berkeley/Frederick Co, VA and then to Botetourt/Montgomery Co, VA (many descendants still in Floyd Co, VA; some to Warren Co, IN) - this line retained the surname BARTLETT.

If there are any BARTLETTs from Garner's line, or any BERKLEY/BERKELEYs from VA roots, you can now verify descent from this line with a matching DNA test.

I have some info on this line, in a Word document, if anyone is interested in receiving a copy.

Jim Bartlett
jim4bartletts@verizon.net
I'm attempting to help a friend learn more about his Bartlett ancestry. Ralph Charles BARTLETT, born 20 June 1876 in Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio is our interest. He married Nina BROWER 26 Nov 1907 in San Francisco, Ca. Ralph died 24 Nov 1949 in Los Angeles, California. Ralph's mother appears to be an Eliza LAUB from Pennsylvania. We'd appreciate any insights into this BARTLETT family. My initial work with the appropriate censuses hasn't made any lineage clear to me.
Thank you. hlgoebel@yahoo.com
