Hi Bren:
I have two questions...where did you find the census's that connected my Barwick family to Seattle and to Tacoma. I was wondering as my father's birth is not on any Washington state census's. I cannot find Sydney on any census either so far.

Also, I would like to know the name of Sydneys gr. gr. granddaugher and place of birth so I can put it on my tree. Thanks.

Dear Barwicks

I am trying to find a current address for Susan Elliott Barwick, who has for years maintained the "Barwicks of the South" website. I have updated information for her.

I descend from one of the original children of William B Barwick and Elizabeth Phillips- their son Benjamin. Most of those decendents were born or settled in around Sandersville, Georgia. Many of us now are here in Northern CA. My uncle William H. Barwick, who passed away this morning (April 29, 2012) at age 82, was among those of us who migrated here to CA.

Please, if anyone has a current email address for Susan, I'd so appreciate it. The email link on her website is inactive, it seems.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~barwickfam...

Lisa

Bren:
Thanks for getting back to me. Who was your daughter's father, grandfather and great grandfather. I think my parents were in contact with a Jack Barwick (nickname for Sydney?) in Tacoma also. Sound familiar? And do you know if any of those Barwicks still alive?
John Ebenezer Barwick is my great grandfather and Percy George Barwick (he didn't like using Percy--using George Percy also) was my grandfather who is buried in British Columbia, George lived in Seattle and Olympia and is buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Olympia. Somewhere I have a picture of John Ebenezer somewhere. It is a tin-type small one.
Thanks again for responding. I did know about Floy Sprague as dad had written all those kids wifes/husbands down. The Barwicks can be found in Vancouver and Victoria BC on the early censuses. Let me know if there is any information you need.

Hi!

The Barwicks are on my daughter's father's side. :o) Sidney Walter Barwick was my daughter's great-great-grandfather. He married Floy Elmira Sprague and they had a large family in Washington State.

I apologize for not getting back with you. I'd be interested in fleshing out who Marin's great-great-grandfather was. If there is anything I can help with, let me know, too. :o)

~~Bren

I have been trying to reach you. Your father was my father's uncle. My father was Vincent Arthur Barwick, and his grandfather was John Ebenezer Barwick who was born in England and later came to British Columbia. My dad's father was Percy George Barwick. Dad always talked about Uncle Sid.
There were quite a few of the Barwicks and I have a list my father wrote out. I also have the corresponding hand-written tree of the Thomas James Marrion tree, which is the other side of the Barwick connection. My father was extremely accurate as to the handwritten trees and the 2-3 generations after. PS I live in Shelton, Washington...not too far from you.

Sydney Warren BARWICK b. 10 Aug 1905 Seattle, Washington

I found some intriguing information today on the gentleman in the subject line.

Sydney Warren BARWICK, son of Sydney Walter & Floy Elmira SPRAGUE, was born 10 Aug 1905 in Seattle, Washington.

He was enumerated with his family in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census in Tacoma, Washington. Again in the 1920 U.S. Federal Census he was enumerated with his family in Tacoma, Washington.

Then, on 14 Apr 1924, on the Naturalization record of Sydney Walter BARWICK, when he lists his children, he states: "Sydney born Aug 10, 1905 at Seattle, Wash - Residence no[sic] known".

I've checked the SSDI, and all records on Ancestry.com, but have been unable to find Sydney Warren (I think he went by Warren) BARWICK.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hi Janice,
Wow, well I can't find any Barwick's you mention on my tree.
I am descended from John Barwick born circa 1734 who married a Mary (surname unknown). Their son was Isaac born 1754, he married Susannah (surname unknown). They had 9 children in Woodnesborough and Deal. If you let me know your email I could send you a chart of how I am connected.
I don't have a record of a son Isaac born to John & Mary Barwick. My information dates back to around 1670s when John Barwicke of Maidestone and Mary Scales of Biddenden married and had 3 children - Mary 17/9/1672 - Thomas November 1675 - John 27/1/1676 - all born at Gravesend. My line continues from John who married Anne Beane on 24/6/1716 at Great Mongeham. Perhaps Isaac could be a son of one of the children - there was a son John born 30/8/1719 to John and Anne - could be his son. Makes it very hard to trace ancestors when they continued to use the same christian names for their offspring!! Which branch do you belong to?
Janice
Ridgley, Tasmania

I am very new to this site, but I came across your posting in a search. I know very little about my ancestry beyond my father. I have been trying to get info out of my dad, but he does not remember much.

Here is what I have in response to your Barwick/Hotchkiss query. My grandfather is Clifford Shannon Barwick (born in Michigan on 8 Feb 1900 - 7 Aug 1981). His mother's maiden name was Hotchkiss. My dad and his sister are trying to remember her and her husbands first name. So far, I have hit a dead end. I am wondering if my grandpa changed his first name, but again I'm hitting dead ends.

Hi

I may be able to help you on this if you give me some idea of what you want to know.

I am descended from Mary Barwick (b.1828, Coxwold). She was a sister of William Francis Barwick (b.1826, Coxwold). He married Ann Foster and they had 10 children. The 2nd of these was a younger William Francis Barwick (b.circa 1858, Coxwold). The 6th was Henry Robert Barwick (b.circa 1863).

By the time of the 1871 census, William Francis Barwick (the elder), his wife Ann, and the children, were living at Lund Head Farm, Skiplam, North Yorkshire. This shows Willam Francis Barwick (the younger) as 12 years old, having being born at Coxwold. All the remaining children (including two of them aged 11) were born at Skiplam, so presumably the family moved to Skiplam about 1859.

By the time of the 1881 census, William Francis Barwick (b.circa 1858) was living at Highfield in Falsgrave, York. He was 22 years old and living with him were five of his younger brothers and sisters (aged between 13 and 21 years). All were unmarried. One of these was Henry Robert Barwick, aged 15, a Solicitor's Clerk. In this census all except William Francis were shown as being born in Kirkdale, North Yorkshire.

On 24th April 1895, Henry Robert BARWICK, 31, batchelor, solicitor's clerk of Scarborough, son of William Francis BARWICK deceased, married Mabel HAWORTH, 27, spinster of Filey, daughter of James HAWORTH, surgeon. The event was reported in the local newspaper. Mr Barwick of Norwood Lodge, Scarborough, was the nephew of Mrs Smith of Cliff House, Filey. She had just died and so everyone was in mourning. The bride was wearing grey and jet and the bridesmaids were in brown with black hats - the whole affair being quiet. The 'large number of costly presents' are enumerated at great length and reveal some of who was who in the family. From the groom's side, there are many BARWICKs, a SCAIFE and some more SMITHs. From the bride's side of the family, there are Haworths, Claytons, Hutchinsons, Coopers, and Smiths of Accrington.

For your information, the Mrs Smith who had died was Ann Smith (nee Barwick). She was born in 1823 in Coxwold and was a sister to my Mary Barwick (b.1828) and your William Francis Barwick (b.1826).

If you need any further information, feel free to contact me directly at keith@soberhill.co.uk

best regards
Keith Smith

I do know the Barwick's that are in the first post are from Canada via England. My father was James Edward Haslip. It is hard to get any more info. There is only one child of James and Tressie Haslip still living. I can contact her and find out any further information that might be helpful. Let me know the info you might be interested in and I will see what I can do to fill in the blanks!

I was really just posting in the off chance that anyone had heard of her or was related...I am a member of ancestry.com, and there are no records that I can find on the site for her besides what I've already found (birth/death dates). I know it's difficult to help with so little information, I was posting here in case someone randomly happened to check it and knew something (that actually worked out for me on another part of my tree)...

The more information you give, the better it is to help you. Maybe start with your information, your parents, siblings, and work your way back to Stella. That way if someone finds something, they have a basis to work off of. Just the name Stella and DOB and DOD unfortunately is not enough info to help you out. Are you a member of ancestry.com?

I'm looking for information about my great-grandmother, Stella Barwick Shadley. She was born August 8, 1905 in Ohio, and died in 1976. She was married to John J Shadley, and in 1927 they had a daughter Carolyn. I can't seem to find any info other than birth and death dates for Stella. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

All I have on Martin Sr is that he was born around 1780 and died 6-17-1844. His wife was either Nancy or Ann and was born around 1784 and died 1-20-1850. Martin Jr was born 12-10-1804 but no death date. He was possibly married 2 times and they may have been sisters. My great-grandmother was Pricilla Thigpen born around 1838 and died 4-19-1917. She is buried in charleston. My grandfather was Henry born 3-22-1873 and died 2-21-1936. He was married to Maria Henrietta Hastedt from Germany. They moved from the Sumter area to Charleston and changed the name to Bowick but pronounced it the same. My father was Henry Jr born 6-8-1907 and we live in Georgia. I am presently in charleston doing some research. I was in Sumter and Pinewood yesterday. I have not been able to find where either martin Sr or Jr is buried. I did find Pricilla buried in Charleston but in an unmarked grave. It seems like Martin Jr may have lived in Charleston too. I have been in touch with some of his other great-grandchildren. Keep in touch. My email is aknowlton@atc.cc.

If he was your great grandfather, which of his children was your grandfather? The math on this is pretty amazing. Are you sure it's not severl more generations back?
The best information we have is that Martin Sr. left England and settled in the Pinewood, SC area about 1808. He first appears in the census in 1810. He had a wife, Nancy, and several children. Records would indicate that he passed away about 1844.
Can you tell me a little more about your descendency?
Thanks,
Karen Barwick

Hi, I've been trying to locate family photos of my Great Grandmother, Martha Ann Barwick. She married Rufus Riley Livingston in 1873. Her parents were Jesse Barwick and Georgia Ann Register. I have photos of their children but have been unable to find any pictures of Martha or her family. I have several old photographs that her daughter Minnie Susan had, but I don't know if any are of Martha Ann. I will post one that I have. It was taken by A. W. Moller, in Thomasville, Ga. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you, Renee

I believe Richard Barwick was the brother to my ggrandfather William Burwick.

Richard died Feb 13, 1879 in McKillop, Huron, Ontario. I can't find the marriage of Richard to Henrietta Shannon, which would have been around 1869. They had 5 known children. Henrietta was married before Richard to Samuel McSpadden and had 4 known children until Samuel died in 1864.

I believe Richard's parents were George William Burwick & Catherine Robb. My William Burwick married Margaret Monteith.

Do you want to share information that I have pieced together?

Melinda

HI Lindy,
We used to correspond years ago. I am the one who created the Barwick and Related Families website. I have info on your James F Barwick who married Elizabeth Cone. He died in Thomas Co March 14, 1898. I have not found any information personal in nature though. Do a search on Arkansas Barwick in the Family Trees and look for the contributor rebel4ever501.....Arkansas (R then say the rest like the state Kanas) was his grandmother. He certainly might have more for you.
