That's not a lot of data. I have two Fidele LeBlanc entries in my tree, but I don't have a spouse for either. One is Fidele LeBlanc b1890 mother Euphemie Landry father Henri LeBlanc. The other Fidele LeBlanc b1816 mother Judith Bourque father Gabriel LeBlanc.

I'm assuming you put this request on the LeBlanc board as well. The LeBlancs are one of the most extensively documented families in Acadia.

I am researching the Mowreys and have this info, FYI.

Nathaniel Bascue married Lela D. Mowrey in 1893 in Johnson Co., KS. Their children were Raymond W., Glen, Elmer D., Edward Nathan, and Lucile M. In 1900 and 1905 they were in Johnson Co., KS. In 1910 they were in Tillman Co., OK. In 1920 Lela had married Edward Schroll and was living in Hutchinson, KS (also in 1930.) I haven't been able to find Nathaniel after 1910.

Edward's son, Edward, Jr., was born about 1929 and is probably the Edward you are in touch with. Interesting that he changed his name to Basque, which I figured was the original spelling of Bascue.

Would like to have more on these Bascues.

David Campbell

Hi Julie,

I'm also a descendant of Michel Bastarache. Over the years I've corresponded with a couple of people who were researching a book on Bastarache/Basque genealogy, but I never heard of one being published.

Do you know if any of these books are still in print. I haven't been doing much work on this lately, but I would love to have the book. If they're not still in print, do you have the titles/author for them?

Thanks,

Ken
I am researching the Basque surname because my son's biological father's lineage goes back to the Bascue's of Loudoun county. I have just determined that James S. Bascue is the most likely suspect to hook the lineage back to Charles/Charlemagne. James S. Bascue had a son Nathaniel L. Bascue who later ends up in Canada married to a Leah and they have children Edward, Glenis, Elner, Raymond and Lucille. They live in Hutchinson Kansas at some point. I am still in touch with a 90 year old Bascue (Edward who changed his last name to Basque in the 1970's.) Anyway, in the past few weeks I did get back to the same origins in Canada you did, but just found this on the message boards. Since you have 30 years of research, I would like to know more about the Virginia and Canadian Basques...you mentioned a Joseph also in Virginia. Was he Charles' brother? Also, do you know why or how they ended up coming to Virginia? I have been doing a crash course in Acadian History lately...probably know just enough to be certifiably stupid, but would like to know what happen to this line during deportation from Cananda. Did they hide out in woods, get sunk on ships, thrown in prison? I think somewhere online it mentioned that the original Bastarrache or Basque line in Cananda may have developed guerilla warfare...how exciting is that!
Hope to hear from you

Hi Ken , Thanks for responding. No, I really don't have any dates. In the census of 1850,1860 it gives Divine RAMON's as being from Natchitodhes. 1850 Divine Ramon is 35 years old,and is a widow. She has 6 children living with her.Ages 19 - 4 years old. In 1860 Divine is living with her son Augustin GODEAUX and his family. Divine is 50 years of age,so, that would make her birth abt.1810. In line 10 of census is Place of Birth, has Natchitoche.
Augustin Godeaux her husband,is not mentioned in any of the census of 1850,1860.In 1840 it has Augustin Godeaux, but do not know if it is Divine's husband.I am also, stuck on parents of Augustin Godeaux.
Back to Bacque name,I have found where Basque is of Mexicican descent. As is the name Ramon. It is soooo nerve racking.I have been looking for their parents over 30 something years.I found the names,Maria Theresa Basque and Trindad Ramon from on line. The person who gave that info could not come up with proof.
I do have dates on Divine and Augustin children . They are in the St. Landry and Evangline Praish area.
Sorry, that's about all I have.Like I said,I'm not sure of Trindad RAMON and Maria Theresa BASQUE being the parents of Divine RAMON.
God Bless,Be A Blessing,
Peggy

Peggy,

Do you have any dates you can give people to help set the time period. I can't find any Theresa or Therese Basque married to a Trinidad Ramon in my database, but mine is not that extensive.

Most of the Basques I know of are of Canadian descent originally from Jean "dit LeBasque" Bastarache. But I know there are other lines, I just don't have any information on them. However, from Louisiana it would be possible they are from this line. Sorry I don't have any information. There are some professional genealogists who monitor (or at least used to) this thread that have an extensive database. Hopefully they can help.

Ken
My relative is Charles Nathaniel Bascue/Basque of Loudoun County, VA. The records I have show he was born 1789 and married to Rachel Buckle 1816, in Virginia. I am descended from their son John Lewis Bascue, born 1821 in Virginia and married to Matilda Hummer.

Everything I have researched and all the family stories have Charles coming from Canada, changing the spelling of the family name or changing the name totally.

Thanks for your help.
Carol

Dear Linda,
The only onformation i have is that Michel Bastarache Born Feb7, 1730 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Pierre Bastarache and Marguerite Forest. michel married in Port-Royal, Marie Marguerite Gaudet. They establish in Baie St-Marie, in Nova Scotia. Around 1755, Michel Bastarache was around Memramcook. The 10 August 1755, around 250 Acadians were ordered to go at Fort Beausejour(Cumberland), on the orders of Ltnt Conoel Robert Monckton. They were captured and were transported and incarcerated at Fort Lawrence (near Amherst,Nova Scotia). then escaped and captured again, they were deported to South Carolina. Once there he escaped again, to go towards Quebec to find out that his wife was refuged ON PEI. Then he joined her.In 1769 Michel was at Cap Maringuoin, and then went to live around Memramcook ( around Cormier Cove) Around 1787 Michel Bastarache et his son-in-law Joseph Le Saulnier(Sonier) Went to live in Tracadie. It would be
interesting and encouraging to know the information
I have so far is correct. Its become a large branch of
the family, since they had 13 children.

Ken

I have 30 years of research on the name of Basque & or Bascue. This is the real story.. Charlemayne Basque came to America after a failed marriage to theotista Doiron in Tracadia Canada, He changed his name to Charles Bascue but is on the census at Louden County Virginia as Charles Basque, along with Joseph Basque and others. He met & married Rachel Buckles a prominent English woman. Her linage leads to the Lords of London. Cuthbert Buckle the Lord of London.Charles was really born in 1780 Canada And dided 16 Sep. 1873 Hillsborough, Loudoun County, Virginia. He married Rachel 1815 in Hillsborough Loudoun County Virginia.
They had 6 children, John Lewis, James S. "Major, Mary Ellen, C., Nathaniel, Henry B. All born in Loudoun Cty Virginia.
They later moved to Chillicothe Livingston County Missouri.
Charlemayne became Charles. His father was Michel Bastarache Basque, his mother was Matie Marguerite Gaudet. They were from Port Royal, Acadia, New Brunswick, Canada.

If I could be of any help to you... Let me know! WE ARE BASQUE

Hello.
The real story to the name change was at ellis island when we migrated from Europe. It was spelled that way becouse our true name is not really Basque it was not mentioned. And our ancester was leaving the country illegally. He wanted not to lose his national origin but not be tied to the Basque country as well. So instead of changing the name on the books at ellis island . He left it as it was spelt to help conceal what our real family name really was. This is another story passed down. As you know all stories are just that just stories.

William b. 1879 in Nova Scotia
2. Levi b. 1880 PEI
3. Annie b. 1883 (married James BEDFORD)
4. Mary (Maggie) b. 1884 New Brunswick (married M. MAC LEAN)
5. Martha b. 1887 Nova Scotia
6. Eisbell b. 1890 Nova Scotia
7. Peter b. 1891 Amherst (married Katherine TOWNSEND)
8. John James b. 1982 Nova Scotia (married Laura BENOIT)
John and Laura were my Grandparents.
No one in my family has any information on John Benjamin's history other than he died at about 105 in 1942 and lived later in his life in Tracadie N.S. and New Glasgow.
I am trying to track his line to no avail so far.
I have been in touch with a cousin from Peter's line and he has had no luck either. Any information would be greatly appreaciated. Regards, Linda
Re: Bastarache/Gautreau

I only have one child to this couple Pierre Gautreau (born 1808) who married Barbe Comeau in Tracadie NB in 1824 and did not have a son John Benjamin in/to my data bank. Who was this John Benjamin married to? I do have a John Gautreau born in 1838 but was married to a Thérès Losier. Would this be the one? Lowell
Secondenation.com

I am looking for the descendants of Marguerite Bastarache born 1762-80, married to Jean Pierre Gautreau born 1773. She was the daughter of Michel Bastarache and Marguerite Gaudet and he the son on Pierre Mathurin Gautreau and Anne Rosalie Diagle.
I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather John Benjamin Guthro who was born around 1838 and died around 1942.
I am told by the family that he was in New Brunswick, PEI and then Nova Scotia. Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bascue changed to Basque

As a child I was very interested in my family tree. I was always told that two brothers, named Basque, came from Spain, had a fight, one moved to CA and the other went to AR and changed the spelling to Bascue. Anyone else been told this story??? I am very interested in finding out as much as I possibly can. Please email me at grnmandmz@hotmail.com
