Hi,
I am the granddaughter of Pete Bau-Basilio's brother. ( I thought his wife was Mary) My father is Virgil. I am trying so hard to find information about Pete's wife, Maria. She left Cambria, Wyoming around 1930. Her maiden name was Cera. If you have any information I would greatly appreciate it!! Also, my parents have received several letters of correspondence from Albino- who is Basilio's son. Any info is helpful.
Thank you!
Renee

I am the daughter of Virgil Bau whose father was Pete Bau (b. 1882 d. 1957) from Asiago. Pete's brother was Basilio Bau. My father told me they were adopted by an uncle who was a priest! I hope you are still connected to this site, because I realize your posting was in 2000. I am personally looking for any information about Pete's wife, Maria. She left Wyoming probably around 1930 or so.
Thank you,
Renee

Bau's in Germany

Hi everybody,

I'am from Aachen Germany. My father Peter Bau and his family come from Stolberg, Germany, which is very close to Aachen. His father's name (my grandfather) was Heinrich Ignatz Bau. His father's name was (again) Peter. His father's name was Wilhelm Bau - so that is my great-great-grandfather. Supposingly he had like 12 siblings, but 2 died when they were young. So that should have yielded plenty of offspring. Thus most Bau's living in Germany are probably related to each other, as there are not that many - just looking in the phonebook .... .

Maybe that helped someone. If anybody feels like there is a link to my ancestors, feel free to contact me. By the way: my grandfather always thought that the Bau family derived from Belgium or France. However he might have been wrong - I don't know ....

regards,

Raimund

Unfortunately that website is available only in German, but the international site (in English) will start soon. Did you have a look on the Stoccareddo-Website as well ? It´s only available in Italian but the English version is under construction. (Doing Family-Websites is hard work - So it takes time to translate all Sites.) Maybe you would like to start an own Bau-Website for Girbraltar ? If so, i may be able to help you. You can contact me anytime: webmaster@bau-worldwide.com

Yours

Tom

Hola Carmen,

John Baw

*** English Translation ***

Hello Carmen,

greetings from the Baw (Bau) in Gibraltar. We are a small family in Gibraltar seeing that two generations ago most of the Gibraltarian Bau´s emigrated to the US and England. As you can see, the Baus from Gibraltar suffered a surname corruption and since three generations ago it is spelt BAW rather than the original BAU.

With warmest regards

John Baw

Maria Di Pietro ROSSI was born in Lugo di Vicenza on 14 Dec 1880, she married my great grandfather, Basilio BAU. I do not know anything else about her. Basilio was born in Asiago, Vicenza, Italy on 4 Dec 1880 along with a brother Peter. Basilio and Maria had 5 children in Italy before coming to America around 1910. Basilio and Peter were adopted by an uncle who was a priest, when their widowed mother remarried. Peter came to America before Basilio and ended up in Wyoming. Basilio and his family lived in Indiana most of their lives. I hope this information helps. I can't seem to find out much of anything else.

Bau family in Italy?

Hello!
I am researching my genealogy. I did not know the Bau came from Germany, but it all makes sense; The Todeschini were from Vicenza, too, close to Austria, and "Todesco" is Italian for "German".

Do you have any information about the Bau in Italy, like when they emmigrated to America, especially Brazil?

Thank you! Any info is appreciated.
Until now i have no Johann Bau in the early 19th century on my lists, but i may be able to find some more information in a few weks time. It may help if you could give me some more details. Where and when was Johann born ? What was his confession ? (roman catholic, protestant, jewish, o.w.e)(I´ll normaly get best results from the churchs diaries)Do you know with wich ship he came to the US ? Even the shipping line would help ! (For example Hapag Lloyd !?)
But even if you don´t have any further information i might be able to find something. I´ll do my best, but it will surely take some time.
Until then i remain with best regards

Yours

George-Thomas

Bau Family

Oh, i am sorry for not giving that detail. I live in Germany. The village is called Altenrath* and is located near the former german capital city Bonn. The Cologne Airport is just 5 minutes away. (NO ! It´s not that loud. In fact it´s really silent around here!!!)
So, you are living in Canada ?! Then i will check my canadian addresses for you. I know there are quite some. Maybe you could contact Anna Bau. She is living in Quebeque at the moment (at least i think so)Her grandfather came from Italy to Canada about 50 years ago. Maybe she knows some french-rooting Bau in Canada !?

And here are my personal details:
Name: Georg-Thomas
Age: 33
Sex: male
Profession: Software Engineering
Weight: Don´t ask
Married to my beloved wife Dagmar
Proud father of Lucas Hubert Guenther (15 month)
Master of 4 dogs, 17 chicken (we call them Agatha - all of them) and 1 cock named Friedolin

Oh, by the way: Another good sign for relations to the large family of the Bau is a good humor. The Bau are always ready for a laugh.

Would like to hear from you soon !

Greetings

Thomas
*Could be translated "Council of the old" what sounds like a honourable place. But in fact the name came from "Oldenroide" what happens to be the middle age word for "the place where they cut all the trees" what does not sound very honourable. But over the centuries the people of this village became a small proud community and made Altenrath a really nice place to live.

Bau Family - Connections in France

Dear Marie-Anne !
I had several Bau addresses in France on my list, but as far as i know, the Bau of France(Beau, Lebau, a.s.o.) are not relavated to the other Bau. It may be, and will surely have happend sometimes in the last centuries, that Bau from other countries moved to france and the spelling of their name changed somewhere between the years. One good sign for any relavation to the other Bau family´s are foreparents from Italy, Austria or Germany. I will show the history of the Bau on my homepage in a few month. As we know by now, the Bau came from Northern Germany or Scandinavia in the middle ages. They settled in all over the "German speech area" (todays Germany, Austria, a.s.o.)At least one large group went over the alps and settled in the "Sette Communi" area or better was at least part of the founders of these area. The largest population of Bau is living in this area. There is a village named "Stoccareddo" in that area. Appx. 1000 meters high and 60 km north of Venice. Place of the annual Family-Meeting (last weekend of July) and home of the most friendly people i ever meet.
As soon as my homepage is running at full power, i will give more informations about that. I will show a few photographs of this years meeting on my homepage a.s.a.p..
If you are interested in the addresses of the other Bau of france, please contact me again. But i must say yet, that i don´t have them in my PC-List, so it will take me some time to find them. (Must have a look into the boxes in my cellar - Must be at least half a ton of paper by now)
Good luck for your further family research !
Maybe you could come to Stoccareddo next year. It´s really worth a visit. (And we´ve had already Bau ( Lebau or Beau) at the meeting. If you need information how to find Stoccareddo you can contact me of course.
Best wishes

Thomas
