Recent research and trip to Cumberland County, PA - I think parents of John W. Bay (abt. 1800- bef 1870) were John Bay (abt 1770-bef 1804)and Hannah Cashity (abt 1770-bef 1850) who married in Dauphin County, PA 16 Aug 1790. Grandparents of John W. Bay probably John Bay (abt 1720-aft 1763) and Isabell Moore. Siblings of John W. were Margaret who maried Peter McFadden, James m. Elizabeth Keel, and Thomas m. Margaret Gibson. Would like to share with anyone having information or interest in this line. Can contact directly at tbay@columbus.rr.com.

Here's what the other picture that I think may be this same child. My husband thinks they are two different little boys.

The back of the card is an old postcard, that says:

"How are you all - Albert and I are fine now. I am going to night school 3 times a week. It is rather hard on me as I getting terribly thin but don't care just as long as I can keep with. Have heard nothing except some awful terrible things he has said about me which are not so.

His mother said somethings that made me feel sad, but of course he is her son. I am only a stranger to her so I am not going to let it worry me but I told her I could not {beim?} {b/l?}etter to him {thsu?} {Imas?}."

The postcard was never mailed. And while it says "Mrs. Wm Bay" across the top of it, I don't know if the image is of her, or the note on the card is to her. No Charles or Albert Bay appears on the census listing in 1910 for William and Josie Bay; only James and Guy.

I have such a love/hate relationship with mysteries!

deb

It was from the BAY side of the family who lived either near St. Louis in 1906 or in Oregon. I believe I have another picture of the same child with his Mom.

Charles Albert Bay would have been related to William Bay and Josie Collins somehow; William is very likely the son of James Matthew Bay and Roseanna (Ann) Cole of Missouri.

I've got many pictures from this family, and would like to be able to verify who they really are so that I can get these photographs to their real family. I thought perhaps this child might be fairly easy for someone to recognize and identify.

deb

My great-grandmother, Daisy Isabelle HOLLIS (McClure) married the step-son of William Lincoln BAY in 1908 in Garden City, Kansas (Ralph CROMER). We've never known what Grandma was doing there, and after doing a census run-down of William and Josie Bay, I don't know why they were there either.

But I've got several postcards addressed to Mrs. William Bay in Garden City, Kansas from that same time period. The Bays appear in the census in 1910 in Oregon, and had been in Missouri before that. The young Cromer family is in Fresno, California by the 1910 census.

deb
I'm tracking Thomas W. Bay, 1802-1804 to 1860, who is probably brother of John W. Bay. Thomas, who died in Columbus, OH stipulated in his will that if the executor could not locate his only son, Thomas H., that his estate should go to his brother James Bay and sister Margaret McFadden of SHIPPENSBURG, PA. Mother was probably Hannah Bay who appears in Shippensburg census in 1810. My interest is to determine who was husband of Hannah Bay. Have a note (but don't know source): JOHN W. BAY 1799-10 MAY 1861; MARRIED ELIZABETH, 1801-1885, SHE AN HEIR OF ANN HIGHLANDS.

Planning to visit Shippensburg in late September. Meanwhile would like to share information.

Enrique, I've done a little scouring and have found some pieces of your family, but have not figured out the parents of your Thomas (Tomas)P. Bay. According to border crossing records, Tomas (or Tomas P.) was born about 1873, 1874 or 1876. Appears he may have had two wives - Ramona S. and Albina Valenzuela, but need to check this more thoroughly. If Thomas P. born in MO in 1870's I thought he might show in 1880 census, but no. Census lists 209 Bays in MO in 1880, 15 in Central COunty, and 7 in St. Louis. No Thomas in Central or St. Louis. ONly 3 Thomas's in all of MO that year but birth dates are 1818, 1868 and 1869. Thomas P. evidently had sisters Albina and Lurcretia (Lucinda or something similar) who were in Mexico, too and who crossed the border from time to time (Alamos to Nogales, TX, I think). If you contact me diretly at tbay@columbus.rr.com, we may want to compare notes and see what you may have that would help in the search.

Tom Bay, Powell, OH

Hi,
Im looking for any connections or relatives of my ancestors. Here is my family tree as I know it: Enrique Bay (me) born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1983 -- Enrique Bay (my father) born in Sonora, Mexico in 1957 -- Alejo Bay (my gfather) born in Sonora, Mexico 1930s - 2004 -- Alejo Bay (my g-gfather) born in Sonora, Mexico 1881 - 1952 reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alejo_Bay -- Thomas Bay (my gg-gfather) born in St Louis, Missouri 1800s.

That's as far as I go but I think originally the family comes from Ireland. If anyone has any info. it would be helpful. Thanks.

As I recall the Bay family homesteaded in Missouri in 1804. During the civil war era it was nearly extinguished when Quantrell and his raiders slaughtered all the men in the town where they lived. One Bay was a school teacher and was hung in front of his class. A teenage Bay who was bayoneted survived when his mother literally washed his innards in a creek and sewed him up. Other members of the family survived by hiding in a cave. Every one in the town who perished was buried in a mass grave in Bunker Missouri. Every memorial day descendants travel there and a service is held.

Hugh Bay of Cincinnati

I have posted to this message board a couple of times in the past looking for direction involving my 2x great grandmother, Phoebe Marie Bay, b. 14 February 14 1850. I have found her parents, and the greatest brick wall in my research has come down. Unfortunately, her father has turned into a larger brick wall, and I am in need of some help. According to some unsourced papers, Phoebe's parents are Hugh Bay and Sarah McMahon. I could find no record of them. It turns out that Sarah McMahon, after marrying Hugh Bay and giving birth to Phoebe Bay, married a man with the surname of Snow. I am only assuming that her father, Hugh Bay died. They had a son, Henry Snow, b. about 1852 in Ohio. Sarah then married a man by the name of John Allen in Boone County, KY, although she gave her palce of birth and residence as Cincinnati, Ohio, and declared herslf a widow at the time of her marriage. So, I am pretty well satisfied that her second husband, Snow, died. For my research, Phoebe was so difficult to find, because she had the surname of Allen in subsequent census enumerations. It is as long and complicated as it sounds, however, now I would like to turn my attention to her father. Does anyone have a displaced Hugh Bay who may have been born circa 1825 in Ohio who may have disappeared? Has anyone seen a marriage record for Hugh Bay and Sarah McMahon, or any Sarah for that matter? And finally, can anyone give me any direction in finding a marriage record in Hamilton County for this Bay-McMahon marriage about 1849, and Snow-Bay marriage. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this long-winded post. Any advice will be deeply appreciated. You may contact me directly with any questions at CanoeCarver@aol.com.

Frank A Dean, spouse of Angeletta Bay/Dean died Feb 21,1928 (Los Angeles,CA)Her father, William Bay died Feb 17,1928 in Liberal,Kansas, just 4 days earlier. The dates were taken from a family Bible kept in the 1950's. If anyone has an obituary for Isabel & William Bay or other documentation I'd really appreciate having a copy. I can send picture of headstones of Angie & Frank Dean in exchange. I am also searching for the obits of Isabel's mother Angeletta Marcum/Gadberry who died in 1886 in Missouri.

David Henry would be great grandson of Thomas and Elizabeth Blackburn Bay, grandson of Samuel and Jane Rannells Bay, son of David and Sarah Ann Egleberry. 1850 Ohio census for Elk Twp., Vinton County he is "no name" male 1/12 (born June 1850). Siblings include John E., Samuel R., Sarah A., Elizabeth J., and possibly a Mary J. 1860 he is still in Vinton County, but 1870 is in Ross County with wife, Josephine. 1880 Josephine is alone in McArthur, Vinton County with Charles, 5, Flora 3, and Hulda J., 10/12. Latter two born in Iowa. Josephine is married, not widowed. A Henry Bay, married, is in Buchanan County, MO, farmer, living with his brother Samuel R. and Samuel's wife Mettie. I assume this may be Josephine's husband, but not certain. If you want more, especially about his ancestors, please contact me directly. Tom Bay, Powell, OH (tbay@columbus.rr.com) P.S. There have been no legal documents (will, deeds, etc.)located which confirm any middle name for David Henry's granddad.
