Hiya Paul,

Good to hear from you .... I know my Dad enjoys it when he catches up with you in Manchester :-)

I'd love to come over and see what you have on the family history ... I've put what I know into a family tree on this site and opened it up for public viewing (I think I've done it right) last night so you should be able to view it ... have you had a look?

If you can't see it let me know and I'll check it out.

Perhaps we could get together one evening or a weekend soon?

Cheers .... all the best .. Chris.

Hi, My name is Chris Baylis (I am Paul Baylis's cousin). We have some family anecdotes that link our family with the Brumby name .... I'd have to check with my dad to see what he can remember ..... but I think that someone in the 1850's married a Brumby in and around Ulverston. If it's of interest to you let me know and I'll ask my dad for what he knows.

Hi Ed,
Wow, I can't even figure out what relation that makes us! Distant at best. My Great-Grandmother was Kitty (Catherine) Fleischhauer's Aunt, Katherine Nolkemper Loeffler. Kitty's mother was Emma Nolkemper Fleischhauer. I know Kitty's father John, is in the family plot, but I don't find Kitty or Emma in the index. I need to take a trip to Cedar Grove again, and visit the office this time to get a complete list of who is buried there. Most of what I know of the family, is through my research, since my immediate family lost contact with the Nolkemper branch when Katherine died in 1956. My Aunt knew Kitty, but didn't recall if she was married. My Aunt is 89 years old, and unfortunately her memory is sporadic. As I said, most of the information I found in Newspaper articles and I have found a marriage record for Kitty and Van. I have the article announcing their marriage, and would be happy to send a copy if you are interested. Unfortunately, my Ancestry membership has expired and it will be a little bit before I re-join. You need to be a member to view others trees. I'll make note of your tree and check it our when I re-join. If you are interested in taking a look at my tree, I can send you an invite. I've recently made it private, due to problems with it being copied incorrectly to others trees. Thanks for your response, good to meet someone researching the same names.
Diane

Check out my tree 'FAMILY' (all capitals). I have extensive information listed on this family. I hope this helps. Please keep me informed with any information that you can add to the family. Thanks, Ed McDowell.

Seems there were many Van Wyck Baylis. In my ancestry, there is a Van Wyck Baylis who married Kitty (Catherine) Fleischhauer, 14 Jul 1928 in Greenlawn, NY. I believe this was a second marriage for Van Wyck. I know they lived in Lon Island City, Queens and later moved to Greenlawn in Suffolk County near Kitty's family. It was mentioned in the wedding announcement I found , it was a small ceremony with only a few friends and relatives present, due to the recent death of the grooms mother. I do not know his parents names. I also know he is buried in the Nolkemper Family Plot in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Queens, he died 22 Jun 1949. The Nolkemper's were Kitty's mother's family. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have just seen an item on Ebay that a Williams or Baylis family might be interested in. It's a group of photos of an African American Family. The album was given to Sarah Williams in 1882. A postcard to Aunt Sarah Baylis is also included. There are a total of 17 photos. it would be wonderful to see it go to an interested family member. Anyone know someone with ties to this family?

Hi Dottie, try this. On you Ancestry home page scroll down to the 'search' boxes. Under name type in Ella Nora Gritman, Under place where may have lived type in 'New York', and hit search. This should lead you to a photo of her and a marriage certificate. Click on one of these and it will bring up an enlarged photo and to the right will be her name in green, click on that and it should bring you to my page. Now just start looking around, you will find alot of good info. Ed

The Baylis(s) family of Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire

My 3xgt aunt was Kezia Smith, born in Aston, Warwickshire. She married Eli Baylis, born in 1854 in Birmingham. His mother was Maria, born in 1831 in London. His mother was a widow in the 1861 and 1871 Census Returns, but appears not to have been married in 1851. His father must therefore have married after 1851, but died, leaving three children, before 1861. If you are a descendant, or know how Eli connects to other Birmingham Bayliss or Baylis families, I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Hi,
I have had a merry chase sorting out Samuel alias John.
I purchased the birth certs for John and Annie and both have Samuel as the fathers name. They are the only ones born in London and Annie has her birth place as London in all the census. A cousin has a medal awarded to Samuel Baylis from Bromsgrove School so I always thought there was a Samuel with a brother John.
I am descended from Annie b1853. She married Stephen Wall 17/7/1875 in St James the Great Bethnal Green with John and Lydia as witnesses. I have tried to find Lydia and John with no luck but now I know they migrated. Stephen and Annie migrated to Adelaide in 1908 with their son Edward and my grandmother came in 1912 and her 2 sisters at other times. Thery may have been influenced to come here by John and Lydia. Annie died 17/7/1939.
The family still live in Adelaide.
I have photos of Annie.
Would love to make contact to confirm other details. sues82@hotmail.com is probably best.

Hi Sue,

I'd love to hear more from you, I had no idea Ann migrated to South Australia as well. I found out that she married Stephen Wall in 1875 and have a record of 5 children.

Email me at clandyer@bigpond.com and I would be more than happy to share info with you.
Hello,

I have a Benjamin Baylis born 1813 (baptised 31 Dec 1813 at St. John the Baptist Bromsgrove to John and Ann), and I think he married Hannah Ryland (also born in Bromsgrove) in 1845 in Kings Norton. He was a grocer and lived in Edgbaston in 1851 and then the trail becomes a bit less clear - you also have Benj and Hannah and I have found a family of Benj & Hannah living in Birmingham in 1861(may be yours or mine?). I guess there were two separate families. I haven't gathered much info on other Baylis's outside of Bromsgrove. Do you know of any links to this area with your family?

Sorry I'm not much help!

Hi again,
I would like to get in contact with you Barbara Alexander or other descendants of the above people. My new email is cralley@iprimus.com.au
I have pieced together a bit more of the story which wasn;t clear to me at the time I was writing the reply above.
I now think that Ida Marguerite Haill Baylis, an English girl, the daughter of Alice Roadknight and Wm Haill Baylis, married Hamilton William Irwin, an Australian soldier, in England in 1918, at the end of the war. He was shipped back to Australia just after that, and I think she must have come out on a war brides ship shortly afterwards. I haven;t been able to find any records of her travelling over. Hamilton was training as a chemist until war broke out and when he returned he wanted to continue his training, but I don;t know for sure what happened after that. I think Ida and Hamilton lived at 17 Mitchell St Monto in Queensland, Australia, not England as I thought Barbara Alexander meant.
I don't know the children they had, obviously at least one as Barbara is their grandchild.
Ida's parents and siblings also emigrated to Australia in 1926, Alice and William Haill Baylis, sister Freda and son...arrggh can;t remember his name! Not sure where they all lived. Possibly NSW. If anyone has any further info i would love to hear from you.
THANKS
Rosie Alley

Looking for Baylis family from the Bromsgrove area. John Baylis a grocer and his wife Ann married c1810 (could be Ann Horton, more than a few John and Ann's in this era). Children were (John Horton? 1810); George 1811, Benjamin 1813, Anne and Sarah 1818, and Samuel 1823 (all baptised in Bromsgrove). I'm having trouble tracing their origins. I found John as a widower in the 1851 census as being born in Worcestershire but place unknown. Samuel, also known as John, moved to London.
There were a few other families in Bromsgrove around this time which may be linked.

Would love to hear from anyone with possible connections.

I'm replying to my own thread ... I have found John's birth in 1849 in Marylebone. His parents were Samuel and Elizabeth nee Morgan. It seems John's father interchanged his name between Samuel and John, no idea why! No wonder the confusion... Samuel (alias John) was born 1823 in Bromsgrove Worcester and his wife ELizabeth Morgan born 1819 in Chelsea, London. Samuel/John had 2 other children Ann (1853) and Lizzy (1857). Lizzy married Robert William Hickman Riches.

I'd still like to hear from anyone connected to these London Baylis's.

Jane (the mother) later married Charles WHIFFING in Wandsworth.

The children of Ernest & Jane were Ethel, Isabel and Edwin. In 1891 they were living in Slough, in 1901 in a cottage at the back of Holmer House in Holmer & Shelwick, Herefordshire. Thanks very much.
