Hello there,
Aunt Lendora was one of my very favorite aunts. She was married to my uncle Johnny. I remember my mother saying that she was "from up on Black River." I think the name of the town was Monteray. I remember the family would go there to visit Aunt Lendora's family. She had a sweet and loving personality and treated me with great love and caring. Her daughter Clara Jean was one of my very favorite cousins. I can tell you some things about her immediate family but I know little of her background. If you care to contact me please do.
Good luck in your search.
K.

I don't know where in PA my gg grandfather came from that's part of my problem. Family stories say the name was changed from Baird to Beard and that they were Scots-Irish. The family is in Iowa in 1860-1870. Then to NW Missouri till 1910 or so. Children were George W., William Riley, Mary J., Henry Herman, Lydia, Henrietta, Almira, Frank, and James Harvey. All born in Iowa 1858-1870. Young wifes name was Mary Jane Stewart Beard. I can't find the father John H. after 1870 Iowa census.

The mention of both CT and NY in this post got me interested...

my 2G grandfather is James P Beard, b. 1812, and d. 1885 in WI. In some census records his home state is CT, in most it is NY. I have no information on which county or city he came from.

He married Saloma Newell b. 1813 in NY, d. 1891 in WI. I have no information on her family either.

Can any of you suggest a family line that might fit with these 2 people? Maybe there are other intermarriages between Beards and Newells?

I believe James ancestors are from Scotland because some of his descendants are buried in a cemetery filled with early Scottish settlers to the area, and in one census, his name is listed as Baird.

Although spelt as it is on their marriage certificate and as they signed by a mark, I do wonder whether pronounced it could be ENRIQUES OR HENRIQUES, Spanish Portugese or Italian !!

Jackie

Issac Colie ( PaPaw Colie) Beard was my Great Grandfather. I'm sure I have some information but I haven't been through it in about a year. I know he was married a couple of times but I'll have to confirm that. He was married to Gertrude Rabb and I believe off the top of my head had 3 children, my Grandfather Ivy, Lyndora, and I believe Issac Jr. I'll check and get back to ya in a day or so.

My grandfather Robert Finley Beard, an only child by Virtuel E. Gorbutt/Beard/Paul and Finley(no middle)Beard. Finley Beard had a father, Ben Beard who was born and died in (Logan?) Arkansas and lived in Shawnee Oklahoma around 1920. Ben Beard and wife Nannie Wallace-Beard had 7 children; Finley, Robert "Tom", Virdie and Lois (twins), Harriet, Opal, and Willis (1902-1920 births)
Daughter, Lucille Tapp-Palmer up for adoption to the Tull family in Shawnee, Okl 1903. Another daughter, Opal Beard-Curtis who married Willis and had three kids (2 girls/1 boy). Finley Beard drowned fishing in Oct. 1948.
I have many facts on my family and some conflict causing confusion such as information I found on Ben and Nannie's children. Not sure how many total. Lois and Lucille are either the same person or not. Tressie is another child known to live in the household of Robert T. Wallace, Nannie's father. Tressie appears to be a twin either one of Virdie or Lois. Age is consistant, but names are different.
My main concern is finding the birth records of Ben Beard in Arkansas born 1875-1885. Another conflict on exact birth date/year. I'm aware of a fire in 1882 in Arkansas.

Do any of your Beards come from Adams County? I have a Jacob F. Beard that according to his Civ War file was born in 1820 and came from Adams but I can't find him there. His father may have also been a Jacob. In 1850 he was married and in Muskingum County OH. I do not know any siblings or parents. Does any of this sound familiar?

I may the decendent of the Beards you are looking into. I am a decendent of a Solomon Beard, with siblings of Phillip, Jacob, Peter, Susanna, John and Mathias and parents of Jacob Beard Sr and AnnaMaria Mary Schmidt Smith. Some of the siblings match your info and some dont. My line is as follows. Solomon Beard - George Wesley Beard - vernon Oscar Beard - Luther Beard - Donld Leroy Beard Sr - to me, Jeffrey Beard. My line is indeed German. From what I can tell my name may have started as Barth and was changed shortly after Hans Peter Barth immigrated to the U.S.I can follow the Barth Name back to 1630 but after that its a little sketchy. I hope this helps. Please feel free to reply with any questions or information you may have.
Jeff

I see a Henry, Peter, and Susan (mother) listed in 1850 Westmoreland Co census and am wondering if they are connected to my line. Do you know anything about these Beards? My John H. Beard started his family late in life in Henry Co Iowa. Trying to make a connection to PA Beards.

I am looking for information about my 3rd great grandfather, William Thomas Beard. According to the Missouri Death records,he was the father of James Samuel Beard (b 12 Jan 1847 in KY and d 22 Apr 1912 in Lexington, Lafayette, Missouri). In abt 1871, James Samuel married Martha Almira Blanton (1849 TN -1905 MO). She was born in TN (the daughter of John Blanton of Henderson, TN), but it is unclear where the marriage took place. Any information about this Beard or Blanton family would be much appreciated.
