I am not sure if you are the same family as I have had great trouble finding my Bebbington family. However, I do believe that my grandfather Richard Bebbington was born in Oswestry in 1886 and had a brother called Edward. Their parents, my great grandparents lived for a while in The Gronwen in Oswestry. One of my aunts told me that he was known as Old Joe at that time. She was known as Granny Bebbington in the village. Richard and his wife moved to Maesbury in Oswestry where my Father Richard Francis was born and also his brother Sydney.

Hello. Eunice is my mother. I know that she has a relative named Mavis. I was curious about Mary Ellen's Twin being named Samuel not Daniel. Do you have a copy of the census. Also, I have pictures of Mary Ellen and my mom remembers her well. It seems she would have remembered her brother's name right. Would love anything you have and would be happy to forward anything I have. Thanks. Susan

Hi Hilary
Henry aged 79yrs born 1832 Leach Dennis Cheshire, retired carter his wife of 46 yrs Ellen 74 yrs born 1837 Dumfries, Scotland along with son Benjamin single aged 37 b1874 Salford , a Railway Goods Foreman all appear in the 1911 census.Address as 16 Port Soderick St Salford, sub district Regent Road. Along with a John Patrick Ryan (boarder) single aged 40 b 1871 in Chicago USA, a Railway Goods loader. I am attempting to trace the John Ryan mentioned. John's address in 1922 is with Mrs Bebbington but this time at 19 Rodney St Salford. I'm not sure if Henry or Benjamin were still alive in 1922. I'm also not sure which railway that Benjamin and John worked for. My searching on the raiways has not been very fruitful so far.
Hope this helps.
Kevin
NZ

Is your website on-line or accessible in any way yet?

I would very much like to access it myself to find out who Jane Bebington b 1797 - d 1828. Jane married twice - first in July 1816 to George Fo(r)ster (variable spelling). George was b 1791 ?where. Jane was born in Saltersford-cum-Kettlehulme. The marriage took place at Prestbury Church. Her father was Samuel (married to Betty Dean in 1777) born 11th November, 1760, in Acton by Nantwich. There were four children from this marriage: William, Elizabeth, Ellen and Joseph.

Jane married for the second time in 1851, having been widowed in 1828 to Joseph Painter a widower of Smallwood, Cheshire. She died in 1852 just a year after her second marriage, age 55. The second marriage took place at Astbury St. Mary Church, Cheshire.

THE PEOPLE I AM ACTUALLY TRYING TO FIND ARE GEORGE FORSTER/FOSTERS PARENTS i.e. Jane Bebington's parents-in-law and I hoped you may have them on your website.

I am tracing James Bebbington who was born in Manchester in 1854. He married Harriet Crosby in Nantwich and was a tailor. He is on 1881/1891 census. His wife is shown as a widow in 1901 but I cannot find James' death. His father was George and his occupation given as a clerk. I think George, born around 1834, is the son of Elizabeth (nee Shackleton b. 1809) and John Bebbington, married 25.2.1827 Manchester Cathedral.
I cannot find James' birth records or on census for 1861/71. George is on census for 1841 - 1871 and is shown as married on 1861/71 but is not with his wife or any children.
I think George's brother is Joseph, born c 1830, who married Amelia Law. I would be grateful for any help or information.
Thanks very much.

Hi, I am researching the Foster family from Astbury, Cheshire BUT before they moved from Cheshire they were Forsters! I am now stuck with a marriage which may or may not be the correct marriage - Jane Bebbington/Bebington b 1797 and George Foster (they have reverted to Foster again (or is it an error). The marriage took place in Prestbury Church which serves the area where they were both living at the time - Saltersford-cum-Kettleshulme, Cheshire. However, the rest of the Foster/Forsters come from Astbury and its surrounds.
The marriage took place in 1816 - they had 4 children. George died in 1828 and some years later Jane remarried Joseph Painter b 1796 in Somerford - Jane died in 1852 in Smallwood, age 55.
Just wondered if you have Jane on your Bebbington list and can tie her up with my elusive George Foster/Forster who was b 1791. I am wondering whether I have the wrong people! Incidentally, Jane's parents were Samuel Bebington b 1760 Acton by Nantwich and Betty Dean b 1761 Astbury St. Mary. Their marriage was in 1777 at Astbury St. Mary.
If I have the correct couple they are my maternal GGG Grandparents. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Sue

George and James Bebbington

I am researching Bebbingtons from Nantwich and Manchester.
James was born c1854 in Manchester (census information). I cannot find his birth or his death between census 1881/1891, living in Nantwich. His occupation is shown as a tailor. On his marriage certificate to Harriet Crosby 28.10.1877, he gives his father as George (deceased) a clerk.
The George that appears to fit is named as a clerk and solicitors clerk on census for Hulme, Manchester. In 1861 he is described as a Widower and in 1871 as married. He is lodging and James is not with him. I believe George is the son of Elizabeth shown on the 1841 census, 1851 and 1871 as being with him. There is no record after 1871. I cannot find a death or marriage for George. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just read all this thread - very interesting about the bump on the ear!!
I am not a Bebbington but have many bebbington's on my family tree - they are direct relations.

John bebbington born 1843 in Dukinfield, Cheshire is my great great grandfather!

I am trying to track the tree further back. I have Charles born in approx 1821 and then his father James. I am struggling with the ladies surnames and getting any further back than James. Any info would be great!

There seem to be so many Bebbingtons!

Thank you so much for your reply....That's incredible!
The bump on the left ear only seems to be in the male line although, just like my grandfather, I am not able to fully straighen my little fingers.

Looking at the origins you mentioned of your family line, it does seem to tie-up, but may be a coinsidence...and a massive one at that. Our line also traces back to Cheshire, with my great, great, great grandfather John Bebbington born in Dukinfield, Little Bolton.

Would love to hear back from you :0)

Bebbington Family of Middlewich, Cheshire

I have recently discovered (through a settlement examination of his son) that my ancestor Daniel Bebbington, who was married in 1704 in Droitwich, Worcestershire and spent the rest of his life there, originated in the parish of Middlewich, Cheshire.

So, if anyone has a Daniel Bebbington in their family, born around 1684 (at a guess) in Middlewich or the Middlewich area who "disappears", I'd be very happy to hear from you. :)

hello, I think you may have a mixture of generations here,
William Bebbington (born abt 1804 in Cheshire) was married to a Mary Ann (nee Machin)(born abt 1808 in London)on 22/9/1823 @ St Augustine the Less in Bristol. Two of their children were George William (who married Mary Anne Hodges @ Parish Church,Brandon Hill,Bristol on 18/6/1871) and Charlotte.
George William died in 1934 in Bristol.
hope this helps more than it confuses.
Arlene Cameron (William Bebbington's Great Great Grand Daughter)

I have a suspicion, and it could just be coincidence, but my grandfather was George Bebbington and born in 1907. He died when I was 10 months old so I don't know much about him sadly. I know it's a strange question, but......do you have a tiny bump ont he top fold of your left ear? It's a trait that runs in our Bebbington family and only occurs in the males.

Anyway, here's hoping!

Babington in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire

In the census of 1841, at Ashby Z, LEI, my John Broadhurst had two children residing with his family-- Martha Babington, age 13, and Ann Babington, age 7. The IGI shows a Martha Babington, christened 9 November 1828 at Benniworth, Lincolnshire, parents John and Sarah Babington. She would be 13 in 1841. There are a number of Babington families recorded in Lincolnshire in 1820s to 1840s, but I can find no direct link of these Babingtons to any Broadhurst family. It would be convenient if the Babington children's mother was a Broadhurst, but if so it would be a lateral line.
