Hello, I'm Brian Beber, my family lives in the Elkhart, Indiana area (by South Bend, IN) and my grandparents were Ernest Jr. and Wilhelmina (Bachman) Beber. I know that my great Grandparents were Ernest Beber & Evelyn (Cook). They got divorced and she remarried. I know that recently my family found out that my grand-father had a sister, but I don't know anything about her.

Thanks so much for your rapid reply. I finally am beginning to put some pieces together. Most of my list of BEBER names came from the 2008 wedding invitation list for my daughter, KATIE BERG, and her husband DERICK WENNING. The BEBER family was totally new to me and I made the mistake of assuming they were a long-time South Louisiana family like the WEBER family. I also was thrown off by the change from Carl Charles BEBER in one generation to Charles Carl BEBER in the next. So you are Terri’s uncle and Derick's great-uncle, the brother of his grandmother, Marguerite. Do I have that right?

Can you give me any information about the parents of Carl's wife, Rita Regina Ray? Do you know where she was born or where she and Carl married?

I read your other post regarding the Ship Zeeland. I found the passenger list on Ancestry.com "New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957". The family arrived in 1908 so Carl had not been born yet. The father's name is listed as ANTON BIBER instead of ANTHONY BEBER, but all the children's names and ages match. If you are unable to access the document, I can scan it and email it to you. In looking through various websites, I have found what appears to be the same BEBER family with the surname spelled BEBER, BIBER, BABIR, BEBIR, BIEBER, etc.

It is nice to have located other researchers. Now we can bounce ideas off each other. As the new comer, I feel sure I'll be receiving more ideas than I'm giving.

I live in Shreveport, so I'm not too far from Toledo Bend. Feel free to contact me directly at bj213@bellsouth.net if you wish.

Thanks again!
Betty

Brenda, I have asked a family member who has established a Beber family tree to contact you. I have a question, though. You mentioned the SS Zeeland in 1908. I looked at the passenger list and do not find Beber, Bieber or Beiber....are you sure that was the correct time and ship. Did they come with another name?

It is exciting to find other relatives...My husband is Charles Carl Beber...his dad was Carl Charles Beber and was the youngest child of Tony and Helena Beber. The family members you mentioned were his siblings.

He moved to Louisiana in 1940 and was in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He married, Rita R. Beber in 1942 there and spent several years going back and forth from Louisiana to East St. Louis. He eventually moved to Houston, where he lived until his death. Rita R. Beber is in Nacogdoches, Texas and is 89.

Hope to hear more about your side of the family.
Charles Beber

Yes, Carl Charles Beber was my father. I am Charles Carl Beber, Sr. Carl was not a Sr....but I have a son in Norco, La named Charles Carl Beber, Jr. We also have a grandson and some granddaughters in Norco, La today. There are other family from Carl Beber's daughter, Marguerite Beber Weber Jackson living in the area...with the last name Weber.

Carl Beber's wife, Rita R. Beber is 89 and living in Nacogdoches, Texas...we live on Toledo Bend on the Texas side.
There is quite a family tree from East St. Louis for the Beber's, where Carl Charles Beber grew up. Most of the existing Beber family was from there.

I just found your post that was a reply to another post about the Beber family. I do believe that my husband and your husband are related. Frank Beber that was born in Hungary and went from PA to East St. Louis is definitely a brother to my husband's great grandmother, Anne Beber and their siblings Helena, Anthony, Rudolph, Carl Charles, Josephine and their parents were Tony and Helen Beber. They came over on the Zeeland in 1908. Tony worked as a miner in Portage, PA before coming to East St. Louis around 1920. This is so exciting. We never knew what happened to Frank and his family. We would like to know where you are located at. We live about 20 minutes east of St. Louis. We would love to meet your husband. My husband doesn't have much family left anymore.

My maiden name is Beber. I am descended from Peter and Elizabeth (nee Steinbaugh) Beber. They emigrated from Prussia which later became Germany. They went first to Pa. and then lived their lives in Kosciousko county in the Silver Lake IN. area. Alot of the census's spelled the name as Beeber but it is BEBER.
They are buried in Germantown Cemetery in Silver Lake. Many of the family died from T.B. back in the 1800's early 1900's.

Has your Beber family ever lived in Louisiana? I have just started tracing my son-in-law's genealogy and his great-grandfather's name was CARL CHARLES BEBER, Sr., born 12 Feb. 1919, died 13 May 1999.

Could there be any connection?

I am a descendent of Peter(wife Elizabeth)Beber who emmigrated to the U.S. from Prussia via LeHavre on the ship Mentor. They first lived in Pennsylvania according to my uncle and then came to Indiana settling in Claypool. He was born 7/20/1818. He and Elizabeth had 6 children. Would be interested in hearing from any other descendents. I am interested in where in Prussia they came from? Respond to deginthecountry@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Does anyone have any info on any Beber's that married a Lauschin, Rathey (Ratay,Rataj,Ratej), Pahole, or Mlaker? I'm trying to find a connection regarding any of these names to a Mary Beber from Austria born around 1848. She married a Hanusek, possible a Beber, and then a Kershishnik. I am unsure what her maiden name might have been.

Thanks,
Dan Lepre

I am Mark Beber, born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We are working on a family tree, and have traced back our origins so far to a Peter and Elizabeth Beber who came over here from Prussia. They had a son Peter Beber Jr. whose wife was Mary. I believe Samuel was also a brother. They are all buried in Germantown Cemetary between Claypool and Silver Lake Indiana. Also buried there is Margaret, Laura and Jacob Beber

Beber's related to Veber/Vebber/Vibber???

I see lots of possibilities the more I look at Census records. There are several that show Beeber and Beber before being finalized as Veber etc. It is a proven fact that Veber and Vibber are DNA relatives back 10 generations to ~1689 in CT. Any Beber's do DNA on here yet or thinking of doing it?

Can anyone trace back to the 1790's and earlier? I see a pile of Beber's and I think some may be related to John Vibber I of Connecticut.

Beber's Mecklenburg-Schwerin to Milwaukee

I'm looking for information on the Beber's family in Germany or Milwaukee.

Here's what I have -

Christian Beber married Dorothea (also Dora and Doris) Grensmuhl (or Grehnmuhl or Grevensmuhl) about 1843.
They immigrated in 1857 according to a census. I found immigration records for a Christoph and Doris Beber in 1857 on the ship Sir Robert Peel from Hamburg to New York.

I found this website - http://blacklake.biz/meck/emig.htm
They may be from Alt Meteln, Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

Christian was born probably in February 1827 but I have conflicting dates. and died 4 Jan 1903. He served in the civil war - but seems to have spent most of his time there with dysentery. Wisconsin Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment.

Dora was born 16 Mar 1829 and died 27 Apr 1907 in Milwaukee.

A census indicates that they had 8 children but by 1900 only 2 were living.
I only have record of 5.
Lina or Caroline Beber. b. Abt 1857.
Wilhelm Beber. b. Nov 1859.
Anna Beber. b. 26 Nov 1867. d. 25 Nov 1869.
Henry Beber. b. 26 Sep 1863. d. 12 Dec 1935.
Emma Beber. b. 18 May 1871 d. 18 Oct 1951.

Henry appears to never have married. He lived with his parents in 1900 in Greenfield Township and farmed.
In 1910 he lived with two boarders on Kilborn Road.
In 1920 he was an inmate of the Hospital for Mental Diseases in Wauwatosa.
I did not find him in the 1930 census.

Emma Beber married Louis (or Ludwig) Dittmar on 1 Dec 1889 in Milwaukee. She had 7 children. She's my great-grandmother and I've found all available census information for her.

Brenda I have a grandmother and her name was Josephine Beber, and her husband was William Beber. They had 4 kids Teresa, Mary, Josephine, Bill. I do not know if this helps you but i saw your message on the board and i thought that i would let you know. Josephine's mothers name was Harriet i do not know her father yet i am still looking. All that i know is that somewhere down the line the name Beber used to be spelled Bieber that might also help you in your search. Well if u find anything out let me know, at conner_25@hotmail.com.

It was his GGgrandfather that we suspected had left the family because we couldn't find a death certificate, but recently I discovered his obit in one of the obscure old papers from this area. I have since learned that his brother came over with him along with his family. His wife was a twin of his brother's wife. I do not know their names. The women were born in Budapest, Hungary. I do not know where Anthony Beber was born yet. Thanks so much for responding to my post and if you find anything interesting please write again. Brenda

We have a rudolph Bieberly in our family (he seems to be my brickwall) I was told that our name was changed from Beber to Bieberly when the family immigrated. The only info I have on Rudolph is that he died around 1954, (at an old age, but no one seems to know exactly what age that was) and that he married Theresa Besser. I know the family came from Germany/Austria. Hopefully these are the same people. I've been trying to locate his fathers name for almost a year now.

My husband's Great Great Grandfather came from Germany so I am told. The only living relative that can remember anything is 86 years old and she gets confused. I do know that her mother was Hungarian. They arrived in America in 1908. On what boat I don't know. I have been told that Anthony Beber, his GGgrandfather died in 1924, but I have yet to find a death certificate for him. I was also told by the family that they think that he left his wife and kids and moved back to PA. He is my brick wall. Had some immigration paperwork in my hand at one time, but my husband's cousin has since died and his sister has them now and won't give up anything. I didn't have a scanner when he brought them the last time. I could kick myself for never getting them copied. Most of it was in German and I can read a little German and have a friend that could translate it for me. If anyone can help, here are some of the names. I am told that both Tony and his wife Helen each had a twin that also married. They came to America together. Tony and Helen had Frank, Rudolph,Helena, Anna, Charles, and Josephine. They moved from PA to IL in 1920. Hope something rings a bell to someone.
