James A. Bechtel is my paternal great grandfather, and I'd like to know more about him and his wife, and ultimately their lineage. Information on that side of the family is scarce, since my father knew little about them besides their names. James' wife was Lucretia, but I don't know her maiden name. I know they had a son of the name Bob Bechtel in Texas (around Fort Worth), and that Bob married Nina Virginia Addington.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what happened to John Bechtel, who was married to Eve Antibus? He was born about 1813 in PA, but had also lived in Owen CO, Indiana, where he is found with his wife Eve and their children, until 1870 where he is in Effingham, IL, with children Jacob and looks like Amelia. He has remarried then. Looking for date of death, and place of death. I think I found him in Missouri in 1880, but cannot be sure of it. Same age, same place of birth, but cannot find him anyplace else. Thanks for any help.

Peter and John Bechtel-Penna.

I am searching for the ancestry of Peter BECHTEL 1774-1855
and his brother John BECHTEL 1762-1823?). There is good
documentation on their lives after 1801 when they migrated
with Adam AMENT, brother of Peter's wife Susannah AMENT,
to Woodcock Valley, Huntingdon County, Pa.

I am announcing to other BECHTEL researchers two items of
interest:

(1) I have found a John and Peter BECHTEL taxed in Lampeter
Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. in the 1790's along with Adam
AMENT. The Bechtels were freemen in the tax records.
(2) On Ancestry.com under HINKLE I have found a lineage
for the Mennonite minister, Hans Jacob BECHTEL 1680-
1739 Pottstown, Pa., with a great-grandson,
Peter BECHTEL marrying Susannah AMENT. I have e mailed
the author of the site, but have had no response. I
would like to know the source of her information to
prove that "my" Peter Bechtel is a great-gandson of the
well documented Hans Jacob BECHTEL. According to this
source the line is as follows:
Hans Jacob BECHTEL 1680-1739
George BECHTEL 1708-1768
Abraham BECHTEL 1743-?
Peter BECHTEL (1774-1855

I cannot find a complete list of Abraham BECHTEL's children,
but there is a documented Peter (b 1774), Magdalena, Barbara, Maria, George and four unknowns.

Does anyone know more about the above?

Dee

Bechtel Reunion of the Six Immigrants

Dear Relatives,

I hve just finished a 275 book pertaining to the Christopher Bechtel line of this family. The six immigrants were said to be related and kept a log of all the descendants together as one family. The last reunion I believe was held at the Hereford Mennonite Church in PA.in 1927 and was the last time the tree was updated.

Calling all Bechtel's - would like to have another reunion to add to the trees as well as meet the descendants of our ancestors which by now total over several thousand.

The information I have found has been most remarkable, and I would love to share it with other relatives.
If you are interested please contact me at JudyG1123@aol.com

Most Sincerely,
10th Generation -Judy Bechtel Gilson

Looking for help on a tree, and more connections maybe

Well I have some of my family tree done so far. I got about 9 generations so far with many gaps. I don't know which individual to list to maybe find the most links with others but there was one semi-famous eprson in my tree that might bring up some memories. My namesake, Jacob Hortter Bechtel, b:20 Oct 1822 in Philledelphia, PA. He wrote many letters to his Brother George during the civil war. His brother started a lamp business at one point. Jacob would not take up arms against the North, he was from there after all). But many of his letter have been published, are in several different collections and used as references in many books. But anways, if you check my web site you'll see that Peter Bechtel Sr. I essentially hit a brick wall. ANY information or other trees out there would be VERY appreciated.

Oh and something interesting is that my middle name Hortter seems to come from a maiden name Horter. Just like my daughters middle name is a modified form of her mother maiden name it seem my family has a tradition of using the wives maiden names as middle names in the children.

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/e/c/Jacob-H-Bec...

Seeking information on Carey Bechtel, and his wife Bessie Stigars. All I can find so far is the WW I Draft registrations, he was listed in Shelby County, wife and one child. I found them on the 1920 census, but have been unable to find anything else. Bessie Bechtel is listed on the SSDI b;28 Aug 1890, died August 1980 at Hillsborough, Montgomery, IL. Would like an obit for her, and would really like to find out more about this family. Bessie is related to my GGGrandmother Hannah Melissa Stigers.

George Bechtel, and son Adam

I have been searching for the father of George Bechtel b. 1772/Pennsylvania for many years. He was from Chester County, or so the family history goes. But in researching I found found ties into Lancaster and possibly Berks County. I felt strongly his father was Adam, but could never prove it. George married Eleanor Evans and named one of his sons Adam. This made me believe that that was George's name and I have been trying in vain to link him to Adam. In the meantime I found two baptismal records from Cocalico Twp. in Lancaster Co. Parents were Adam Bechtel and Catharina. Daughters Anna Maria born 13 Oct 1779 and Sara born 1 Apr 1783. Anna's sponsor was Burckhart. Have more information if anyone is interested.

Hello out there...

I have the estate papers from Frederick Beghtel, when he died in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

In amoung this stash of records there was one item that we are desperate to locate it's current resting place.

The estate papers make it clear that Elizabeth Wareham Beghtel was allowed to keep (as part of her dowry inheritance as widow) the Bible of Frederick Beghtel.

Now we know that she moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana and lived there with her son Jesse Beghtel...but proving that Jesse was her son, and also the son of Frederick Beghtel, is our problem.

We need someone in the know...who knows who currenly posesses that old Bible...was it donated to a Library, Museum, is a family member still in posession of it?

How can we get clear copies of the outside cover, inside where the year of publication and publisher's name is printed and the family history section...with all the names of the eleven children, along with their birth dates itemized.

We are willing and able to pay for these copies and the priviledge of owning copies of Frederick's old Bible enteries.

If you know something, or even think you know something about it's whereabouts, please contact us directly at
RBeghtel@aol.com

Thank you so much

Thanks to the efforts of Judy Gilson and John Bechtel, we now have a centralized location for research of the PA BECHTEL and all other spelling variations of the surname.

On August 6, 2005, the first BECHTEL family reunion in 75 years was held in Bally, PA. It was a memorable experience for all in attendance.

Gail, I think you have some things confused. Our ancestor was Noah S. Bechtel who married Veronica Christner. His father was George B. Bechtel who came to Ontario in 1829 from Pottstown, PA. His father was George K. m. to ? Bitting. The line goes back to George m. to Magdalena Kolb, son of Rev.Hans Jacob m. to Eliza or Elizabeth. These Bechtels settled on Ringing Rock Farm just outside Pottstown.

Philip B. Bechtel WWII Army Airborne

Hi. I am looking for either Philip or his family.

Philip was in the Army Airborne during WW2. He started out in the 17th Airborne Division/139th Engineer Battalion and possibly transferred to the 101st or the 82nd Airborne when the 17th was disbanded in 1945. He would have been in the Engineer Battalion or HQ & S.

I am in the process of writing a book about the Battalion and would like to have him contact me. If he is no longer with us, I'd like the family to touch base with me to give me a summary of his life since the service. This also will be in the book. I have also succeeded in getting these WW2 Heros to touch base again with their comrades after not seeing each other for almost 60 years. Their reunions have been wonderful.

Thank you for all leads to help me on this tribute to our WW2 Heros.

Sincerely,
Tammy Paynter

I'm looking for any information on the children of Robert Levan Stelitz, b. April 25th,1904, d. January, 4th, 1995. His first wifes name was Myrtle, whom he married when he was 21. They had a daughter named Barbara, who was 1 yr 9 mos old, at the time of the 1930 census. He was an architect that worked for the government spending much time overseas in Guatamala and Iran. At some time he married a woman named Virginia. Robert Levan Strelitz was the son of Edith Levan(Strelitz), daughter of James Bechtel Levan who was b. Feb. 2, 1857 in Reading, PA. d. Dec. 15th,1930, son of Daniel Levan & Catherine Bechtel, both who were born in 1817. Robert was born in the Roxborough area of PA. If you have any information on his daughter Barbara or any children born to Robert and Virginia, please contact me at bluebambie@aol.com. I am trying to complete the history of an antique watch that orginally belonged to Robert's Grandfather, James Bechtel Levan. Thank You for your time. Sincerely,
Renee D.
Rev. Abraham Bechtel (1749-1815)

Well, a branch has broken off my family tree! I have always traced my ancestry back through the captioned Rev. Abraham Bechtel to George Bechtel (d.1768) to Immigrant Hans Jacob Bechel (@1680-1739). However, I recently re-visited the Schwenkfelder Library in Pennsburg PA and reviewed the fantastic Jesse Bechtel manuscript again (more about that at the end). Anyway, I must have wrongly interpreted it the first time I studied it, because he shows no ancestors for Rev. Abraham Bechtel (who married Margarethe Clemmens (1753-1841). He does not connect Abraham to any of the 6 early 1700's immigrant Bechtels. Anybody have any information on this??
One Jesse Bechtel did an extensive family history in the early 1920's. It exists only as a typed manuscript, which is now on microfilm at the Schwenkfelder Library. I am really impressed by the documentation he presents in this manuscript and have pretty much taken his data as a primary source.

Bechtel Family Association

About 100 years ago, the Bechtel Family Association was active, conducting meetings, reunions and maintaining the family tree for future generations. A small group of interested family members from different lines of the Bechtel Family are in the process of restarting the Association.

This new association has some unique goals and attributes. Briefly, we intend to reach a goal whereby the site is the most extensive collection in family references for the 6 Bechtel lines and their associated families. To ensure that the sight will not fade, it is in the process of being set up as a business and provided for, so that this association will continue into future generations.

As, many know, we are currently planning the first association reunion since the last century.

The web site is under development and there are openings for staff. The site can be viewed at www.bechtelfamily.com

We are having an open house until the go-live date in September of 2004. Please enjoy the site and feel free to contact us with suggestions and comments. It is just a very small component of what is to be developed in the coming months.

John W. Bechtel
5th great-grandson of Johann Jorg Bechtel
jbechtel@bechtelfamily.com
Hi Lew and all,

I am also descended from Peter and John Bechtel who migrated to Huntingdon County, PA @1802. I have spent
many years looking for their parents, date of immigration, etc.
I did find a Peter and John Bechtel in Lampeter Two., Lancaster Co., Pa. in the years between @1795 and 1799
with a Henry Bechtel. They were taxed as Freeman. Peter married Susan Am Endt/Ament and her mother and brother,
Adam, were in Lampeter Twp. at the same time. Adam and his family migrated with Peter and Susan Bechtel to Huntingdon Co., Pa.

Tell us more about the reunion. I spent many hours going over the notebooks of Jesse Bechtel in Penna. He never discovered the origin of Peter and John Bechtel. Can you
include the Bechtel e mail group at Rootsweb in this conversation?

Dee

Adam Bechtel of Nebraska

Does anybody know anything about this person?

He was born in 1845 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany and died sometime after 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

I know that his parents were Jacob Bechtel of Chebanse, Illinois and Elizabeth Baker, and that one of his children married a certain Edmund Stieder of Lincoln, Nebraska; but I'm not sure of who the grandparents were.
