Nathanel's fathers name was Henry Beck. I think Henry is the 3rd Henry. Back in 1635, A Henry Beck arrived from England to Boston on a ship called the Blessings. You can actually google Henry Beck 1635. He was 18 when he came to America, so I'm kind of putting things together with the dates. I haven't put the middle together yet, but by the years, the Henry that arrived in America back then, has to be Nathanel's gg grandgather. Still doing the math. I am part of this Beck line. Larkin was my ggg grandfather and I have a wonderful book about our history. I can let you know more when I fill in more details.

Allan, are you part of the Beck family? I also have the bio written by Christopher. Also included is an entire book put together on Logan, Nathaniel, Larkin, ect. Logan is my gg grandfather. Brothers - Allison and Christopher. I know they moved to Texas and all 3 brothers were part of the beginning of the Texas Rangers. They were also in the Civil War and were spies. What I have learned, they did not believe in slavery and had many issues because of that. What I have read, Christopher was almost hung because of his beliefs. (this is in his bio). They were also friends with Abraham Lincoln and Lincoln visited their house quite frequently. (this info comes out of the family book that I have). Logan's son is my great grandfather, John. John came from Chicago and moved to Florida in the early 1900's. He was the founder of a little place called Lakeport. John built a store in 1920 in Lakeport, turned it over to my grandfather, but was distroyed in the hurricane of 1926. John's son was Addison, Albert Addison, obviously, my fathers father. Grandpa died in the erly 90's. Haven't asked my dad yet, but I'm kind of figuring that my grandfather was named after Addison. I have to say the Beck family is quite interesting...I think that I have this right. It does get confussing. I have tracked the Beck's was back into 1635 when Henry Beck traveled as an immigrant from England and landed in Boston, at the age of 18. He was on the ship "Blessings". I think that this is Nathaniel's gg grandfather. Nathaniel's father was also Henry, must have been the 2nd or the 3rd Henry, still putting this together. Please let me know if you can fill in any blanks. Karen Beck Albert - albert.karen@yahoo.com

Not for sure if we are the same Beck's or not, but I'm Karen Beck. Logan was my GG Grandfather. His brothers were Addison, the U.S. Marshall that was shot by an Indian and Christopher. Larkin was Logan's father. I have went as far back Henry Beck as an immigrant who left England to come to America on the ship named the Blessings in 1635. Henry is Larkin's Great grandgather. I'm still putting things together and it does get quite confussing.. Let me know if we are part of the same Beck's. Maybe we can help each other out.

I do have a book, along with old pictures. I will go through them again to see if there are any photos. How would I get a copy of the video that you have made? I do have a few bio's from my family. Addison is mentioned in there quite a bit on how he was shot by an indian while serving him papers. I also have an article about his funeral.

Re: Addison Beck born 1856 Illinois

I've been doing some research on the Beck's in Parker County Texas. Nathaniel Beck married Eady Manord (now spelled Maynard) and, of course they had Larkin. I am descended from the Maynards.

Larkin, Addison, Christopher and Logan came to Parker County Texas in 1858. Larkin purchased 160 acres from George W. Gilpin on the Parker/Hood County line in 1859 (Abstract A-510).

Addison, Christopher and Logan were conscripted into Confederate Service. Logan "escaped" the Confederacy and later joined the Union Army in Illinois. Christopher was rumored to have been a courier for the Confederacy who secretly met with Union Soldiers and provided information. Addison apparently served his time under the Confederacy because in 1867 he and Larkin both swore their allegiance to the United States in Parker County, Texas.

Here is where the lines are blurred as Larkin and Addison next show up in the 1870 Census in Arkansas. I cannot find any record where Larkin sold the 160 acres. In his autobiography, Christopher mentions that folks around Parker County may have thought of them as "abolitionists" or Union sympathizers. My theory is that they were run out of the county or made to feel uncomfortable to the point they didnt want to stay.

Christopher also mentions he was taught to survey by R.A. Hawkins who I found had, in fact, been elected to the position of County Surveyor three times during that time.

I would like to know why and when they left Texas and any other family stories that are out there. I work in Parker County and have talked to the current owner of the 160 acres purchased from Gilpin by Larkin. I plan to go see the property tomorrow.

My grandmother's maiden name was Beck. Her father was George Beck and mother was Mary Glanz. They lived in Assumption/Metamora, Ohio. I was wondering if the George you have listed as being born around 1890 is my grandmother's father. Any information would be great. I am trying to trace George's roots. I am looking up his birth record to check his birth date. If George's lineage is from George and Louisa Beck, I would love to have any information you have found. Thank you!

Rachel

I am putting together the items Merwin Parks gave me that belonged to Aunt Eva. I want to find a way to pass these on so that it’s available for anyone in our family. I am not sure if the Mormons would want all of the letters. However, if there is a family member who would willing to be a repository for all of this, I will post the information to all of the members whose email addresses I have. In turn perhaps they can pass the word on to other members of our family. Any suggestions are welcome. I have letters, documents, photos and even Aunt Maude’s report cards, teaching licenses and commendations. I have a copy of Aunt Eva’s law license. He supposedly boasted of having German heritage, but I can't verify if that is even true. She was the daughter of Chief William McIntosh of the original Creek Nation. I think John Beck's parents were Joseph Beck and Elizabeth Mathis.
I am transcribing obituaries from our local newspaper archives (Scotia, Nebraska):

The Scotia Register
Volume XXXIII, Thursday, November 17, 1927, pg. 1, column 6
MRS. JOHN BECK PASSES AWAY IN ORD FRIDAY
HAS BEEN RESIDENT OF THIS VICINITY FOR PERIOD OF 22 YEARS
The many friends and acquaintances of Mrs. John Beck were saddened to hear of her death last Friday morning at the Weekes hospital in Ord. She had undergone an operation on the Tuesday preceding her death, and was reported to have recovered from it in good shape and for a time was getting along nicely.
The John Beck family has lived in this vicinity for about twenty-two years, and the sympathy of the entire community is turned to them at this time.
Mrs. Clara Beck was born at Marquette, Nebraska, January 4, 1876, and passed from this life at the Dr. Weekes' hospital, Friday morning, November 11th at the age of 51 years, 10 months and seven days.
Mr. and Mrs. Beck were married at Marquette, March 6th 1898, and they lived there for about seven years before moving to this community where they have since made their home.
Mrs. Beck was the mother of six children, four boys, all of whom are living, and two girls, one who died in infancy, and the other, Dessie who preceded her mother in death some four years [ago].
Mrs. Beck was a member of the United Brethren church, which she joined while in Marquette, when a girl. And while in this community she worked with the Methodist Ladies Aid, and helped wherever she could.
She was a faithful mother and a devoted helpmate to her husband.
Besides her husband and her four sons, Milo, Burr, Ralph and Walter, she leaves her father, two sisters, three brothers, and one grandson.
Interment was made at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Sunday, with Rev. G. A. Randall in charge.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

There were several Beck families in Covington county in the mid-1800s, my understanding was that several (more than 4) brothers originally from the Barnwell,SC area settled there. William Green Beck was a prominent farmer and state legislator. I see mention of a John, Amos, Jesse (my ancestor), and Jacob also in that area around 1850.

Your ancestor Mary Teresa Beck was born on 3/17/1877 from what I can see searching trees. She was the daughter of Vicey Lavitha Beck and Amos Beck (yes they were probably cousins). Vicey Lavitha Beck was born on 4/14/1833, she married Amos Beck (1831) in the Coffee County, GA area.

Her grandparents were John Beck and Vicey McIntosh who were born in South Carolina.

Mary Teresa married Thomas Pate eventually.

We are probably related but your family is likely from one of the other 4 Beck families in Covington county, my ancestor Jesse Beck and your ancestor John Beck were more than likely brothers, but I can't verify that today.

Well, I don't have much to talk about. You can check my "Fautt-Poteet-Beam-Cleveland" tree and see the Becks start about 4 generations back. My gr-gr-gr-grandmother was a Beck. But I don't really know anything personally about this family, I just have the info I researched here on Ancestry. It's all in my tree which is public, so you can see it.

Steve

Both of these young folks live near Scotia and are very well and favorably known. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Jennie Stubblefield, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Beck. Both were residents of the Wallace Creek neighborhood.
The ceremony was solemnized at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at the M. E. Parsonage in Scotia, the Rev. G. A. Randall officiating. Only the immediate members of the two families were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Beck will make their home with Mrs. Stubblefield on her farm in Wallace Creek.
This young couple has many friends and acquaintances throughout this vicinity who join in wishing them happiness.

Julie Middendorf
mjmiddendorf@nctc.net

Hi, my name is Judy, and I believe my grandmother Schmidt was related to the Becks in Germany. A couple of weeks ago, I received a phone call from a Christa (Beck) Meiers, who lives in a small town in Bavaria, Germany. She had found my name on the internet and was looking for connections to the Beck name in Marion County, Oregon. Her great aunt Therese immigrated here in the late 1800's. She married a Gottfried Beck in 1895. They were 'general farmers' here in Oregon.
I have no way to trace our family tree and see WHERE the connection between the Schmidts and the Becks is. Can you please help me? My Grandmother's name is Vivian (Schmidt) Dalkenberg.
Thank you, and you can contact me at:
greenacres3643@wmconnect.com.

Sincerely,
Judy B.

Do you have an approximate birth year or any other information? I don't see a Mary Teresa Beck in my data anywhere but I might have an incomplete/incorrect name as that happens.
