Andrea, I have Beckingham's/Beckeram's also. They are on my wife Margaret's side and are mainly from the Sunderland area, but originally from Monmouth, Wales in the guise of John Jeffrey Beckingham who came to Sunderland where he died.
Am willing to exchange information.
Richard Thorpe

Hi Estelle. Have you worked out how your Beckinghams are related to mine? Be aware that the name has also been spelt Buckingham. After Charles died, Mary married James Brooks in 1839. I think they had 1 child, a boy but I have no idea what became of him.

I don't think the name Beckingham is all that common so there's every chance we are related.

Cheers
Angela

Thanks for your reply to my post. May I ask where you got your information? Are you related to the Quelch's?

George is my man although I had his date of birth as 1830. You will find that a lot when researching family history. Dates and places of births, marriages and deaths can be very flexible.

I do have one question. In your reply you said Mary married George Quelch not Charles. Was that a mistake?

My George and Eliza had 9 children. Still to confirm this through BDM records.

I believe there was a book published on the Cross family in Australia, but you might have to go to the State Library to get a copy.

Hi. I just found your posts while looking for information on the Beckingham family. I saw Barry's reply to you and I'm wondering where he got his information from.

I have checked the NSW BDM site for the birth and death of your ancestor and can't find her in either the birth or death section. In fact there were no Cross deaths listed for 1926.

I know I might sound nosey but I like to try and help people where I can.

Kind regards
Angela Fox

Hi Mike,

The FIBIS web site shows Entry from Transcription of Marriage Indexes 1709 - 1893
Presidency of Marriage Bombay
Marriage Year 1882
Husband First Names Simeon
Husband Surname Beckingham
Wife First Names Elizabeth
Wife Surname Mitchell
IOR Reference Z/N/3
Volume Number 56
Folio 140
LDS Film Reference 462967
Transcribed by Sylvia Murphy

I am happy that it is the same man as your Seymour. In 1849 there was another Wiltshire Simon aka Seymour who emigrated to NSW. Your Seymour was also known as Symer and Lymer. According to Overton, Wilts parish register he was baptised as Lymer but that may have been a poor transcription.
I have him at home in 1851 census but he is not with his parents in 1861, the next time I find him here is 1911 where he is described as a retired Army & Civil pensioner.
I can send you a Gedcom if you like.

Regards
Alex

I would love to no more and swap information with you as I said to Alex in my replay 31-12-2004 my Laura Spiltead married into the Beckinghams and all I had at that time was NSW-BD&M record and RootsWed look ups but any more info would help to build the brick wall of Beckingham/Spilstead.
Cheers Bob

Hi Julie. My Gt. gt. gran was Florence Oakes, nee Beckingham. Her father was David, and his parents were Charles and Hannah of Hungerford Berks. Charles and Hannah were aged 61 in 1881, making Charles born in c1820. The 1881 census gives my Charles and Hannah as having been born in Hungerford, but there is another Charles Beckingham whose details say Gt. Bedwin, and I'm trying to work out if they are the same person or 2 different people. Can you help?

Gloria - I was thinking, if you can give me some names and years of birth, I can find them for you! I am going to the family records centre in London this coming week and I can look them up. So if I had, for example, Alice Mary Beckingham born in 1895, I can look up anyone of that name born in that year and get the codes you need for a birth certificate. You can then order the certificates on line! It will tell me the codes and the place of birth, so you can get a starting point on the area at least!

What do you think?

If you gave me a few names and years of birth that connect, and I find them all in the same area, it opens up the whole thing for you.

Just let me know before Tuesday night as I am going up Wednesday and staying until Thursday night.

Sounds like a good plan to me!!!!!!

Julie x

Hi Gloria. The only I see that may connect to you is the Alice Beckingham that was born in 1895 in Pancras, London. But if you think she may have been born in NY, that doesnt fit!! I do have an Alice in my family somewhere, but I cant think where!! The only way to find out is to get Alice's birth certificate. If I can find a more concrete connection I would order it myself, we'll see how we go!! I have the codes to order it.

I will keep your family in mind when searching.

There wasnt an Edward Beckingham born in London in the year you mention. I wrote them all down!

Lets keep searching!!

Julie xx

Julie

I wish I had more information to go on but I don't know where anyone was from. I am looking for my husband's relatives. His maternal grandmother was Alice Msry Beckingham born in 1895 and her brother was Edward Thomas and he was born in 1989. Their parents were Edward Albert Beckingham and Delia (or Bridgete) Higgins. Alice and her brother are supposed to have been born in New York City, NY. My mother-in-law (one of Alice's children) said that her family was from the British Isles. She was English, Scotch, Irish and Welch. Who was from where I don't know. The family is all gone and there is no one who has any records. Do you have either Edward Albert or Delia (Bridget)? I'd love to hear from you again. Thanks Gloria

After the divorce my nan changed back to her maiden name and my Dads name was changed too.

I am trying to think of why the name Alice rings a bell in my Beckingham line! My Dad says it rings a bell too, but he cant think why either! We thought it may be my nans mums name, but it isnt.
Julie

I was excited to hear from you but unfortunately there is no connection with our Beckinghams as I can see. I am looking for an Edward Albert Beckingham. He married Delia (or Bridget) Higgins and they had two children that I know of. Edward Thomas Beckingham and Alice Beckingham. Alice was my husband's maternal grandmother. I am very unorganized, but I have two very large family trees for the name Beckingham that I got from the internet. Unfortunately they are no help to me but may be what you are looking for. I will try to do a search and see where I have them and get back to you. I am little confused with your listing of Beckinghams. You say that your Grandmother was Francis Hamilton Beckingham and she had a son with the name Beckingham and that her parents were Beckingham. Was her son born out of wedlock that he has her maiden name? Also my middle name is Frances and I know that the female name is with and e and the male name is with an i. Is your grandmother's name with an i? This is unusual. Just curious. I will try to get back to you soon. Gloria

P.S. Have you gone to the rootsweb site and looked for the name? I think that is where I found some of the family trees that I have.
