My line has Thomas/ Margaret Charnock children were Robert b: 1826,Mary, Thomas, Ann, William, Ellen and Elizabeth(Betty). Could this be the Richard and Ann that you mention?

I to follow the same line. Richard and Mary Thornley had several children, one of them John Beddows.

Ihave a Richard who has brothers and sisters starting with Margaret, John, Thomas, then Richard and William.
My line is through Thomas and he was born in 1769.
This looks as though it could fit in with your date.

I am on the same Beddows line. My great, great, great Grandfather was Robert Beddows born 1848, his sister was Ann Beddows. Not to sure if your parentage connections are right... John did marry Elizabeth yes, but not convinced you have his parents right?

I have unearthed a photograph connected with your G-Grandfather which may be of interest. Do you have him in 1901 working as a servant at a baker's in Bedworth, Warwickshire? I have a picture of that bakery (taken in 1970)...

No, William of William Beddows & Co was not a relation of Ralph or Harold's families, who had a different origin in North Shropshire, and later moved to Horwich in Lancashire.

Thanks for your reply, glad I'm not the only out there having problems with the Bedders! Your great grandmother is the sister of my great grandfather Edward.

I can shred a bit of light on what you are saying:-

1. I have found a birth record for an Eliza Jane Beddow from Oct-Dec 1876 in West Bromwich (6b 793). As I have found various Beddow(s) instead of Bedders I think there's a fair chance this is your Eliza.

2. Josiah Wilson is the son of Joseph's second wife Lucy, he is listed on a couple of the later census returns as Joseph's stepson (although these show his surname as Bedder)

3. It is difficult to find the Bedder family showing Joseph as they keep changing the spelling of the name! From the census returns in 1881 they are Beddows, in 1891 they are Beddar, in 1901 they are Beddoe and in 1911 they are finally listed as Bedder. I haven't been able to find Joseph yet before the 1881 which is driving me insane!!

I have both of Joseph's marriage certificates (both with Bedder spelt differently!) His father according to these was Thomas Bedder but I can't find him yet either.

The problem that I have is my Great Grandfather moved to Norwich before he started his family and as far as I can tell didn't have much more contact with any of the family, my Grandad can only remember limited information and mainly that he didn't know any of them but can remember a couple of ladies dressed in black visiting but they weren't made very welcome!! (he assumed someone had passed away)

I'd love to know what your anecdtotal stories are and any other information the above leads to. They haven't made it very easy for us and I have thought many times about travelling to West Brom to look through the parish records to see what that shows.

I too have problems with West Bromwich Bedders, which you may actually have shed some light upon!
My Great Grandmother was (details from Marriage Cert) Eliza Jane Bedder born in West Bromwich, daughter of Joseph Bedder, Labourer. Address at marriage 157 Spon Lane, W Bromwich, married at St John's Church, W Bromwich. Married 18.04.1897.
There is some confusion about DoB - Census records suggest 1877, Marriage Cert suggests 1867 (think this must be a mistake).
Eliza married a John Carpenter, age at marriage 23, moulder, resident at the same address. Father also John Carpenter, miner.
Here's the interesting bit. I can't find a birth certificate for Eliza, or a family which involves a Joseph. However, I notice now that one of the witnesses is a Josiah WILSON, which links nicely with Joseph's marriage to Lucy WILSON a few years before.
Eliza & John moved to Bedworth, Warwickshire (my home town) shortly after their marriage, as their first son Frank William was born there in July 1898.
Have you got any further since then, because I have no family members left to ask, only a couple of anecdotal stories.

Looking for information on John Beddoe & family of Shropshire. His daughter, Mary, married Charles Johnston(e) of Ludlow. Charles was born 15/07/1736, died 08/05/1805. They were married in 1778. Their children were either born in Dumfries, Scotland or Ludlow, Shrophire. Charles' father was Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall.

I was a beddows before I married, i was born on the wirral. my father was william john beddows, my grandfather was John Jeffrey beddows and my great grandfather worked for lever brothers but unfortunately I can't remember his name. I would appreciate any information about relatives.

Sorry, can't help you. My wife's father was born in Wolverhampton and the only thing we know is that the family lived in Jenner Street. Her dad comes from a long line of Joe Beddows from that area.

Gday Folks,
I am an Australian. Now to add more grist to the Beddows mill. My wife's maiden name was Beddows and her father's family came from Wolverhampton. In fact, he was born in Wolverhampton. She still has cousins living there from the Beddows family line and we are well acquainted with them. Her father was a Joseph Beddows and as far as I know, that was the name of her grandfather and g.grandfather. The family were originally canal boat people. Is this of any help to you?

Hi. mY FAMILY CAME FROM BILSTON STAFFS.
MY G.G.Granfather was BORN Thomas Beddow.he changed his name to BEDDARD in 1841. his wife was Louisa Powis, and first boen was Eliza , my g gran mother.
they came to Pendlebury in 1871 with their family. one son was called William Beddow. he did not change his name.

Hi, I was a beddows and recently married, My Father is Christopher Beddows with a brother Richard from Whitchurch, Shropshire. His father was Thomas Henry Beddows know to me as Harry he was married to Mona Beddows.
