Susan Bedell b 1790, New Brunswick

I am researching a Susan Bedell b 1790 in New Brunswick that married Duncan Cameron 1791, was enumerated 1851 in Burford Township, Brant County, Ontario, died in 1854, and is buried in Harley Cemetery between Burford and Norwich Ontario.

Many with the Bedell name migrated from New Brunswick to Saltfleet Township in Wentworth County, Ontario, in the very early 1800s. I presume that Susan arrived in Ontario within this migration. It is believed that she was a daughter of Stephen Bedell 1745 and Susan Galbraith 1763. Duncan and Susan appear to have followed strict Scottish tradition in the naming of their first children (although this could be misleading me).

If anyone can help, or suggest a line of research, I would much appreciate it. Thank you.

Re: Norrington Bedell / Bedall and Ella Bedell / Bedall Smith

NORRINGTON BEDALL (August 18, 1844-January 25, 1925) was the son of Enos Bedall (1815-1903), a brother to Levi Beadle, ancestor of Mrs. B and many other readers of the BSN.
An obituary (paper and date unknown) states:
Norrington Bedell [sic] was born at Zanesville, Ohio, August 19, 1844. Early in his life he moved to Wood county, where he spent the greater portion of his life. Later he lived in Van Wert county, and Blackstone, VA, and finally making his home in Cardington [Morrow County] the past four years.
He was united in marriage to Evaline Adams in October, 1865. To this union were born three children: Mary, who died in infancy and Ella Bedell Smith, who died May 19, 1895, and one son, George, who survives; also five grandsons and one granddaughter and one great grandson. His wife preceded him in death May 18, 1915.
A news report of his death (same paper) reads:
Norrington Bedell [sic], who for four years has lived in Cardington, passed away Sunday night at 8 o'clock in his rooms in the Beatty and Chase block. He had been ill for several weeks. Mr. Bedell was aged 80 years, 5 months and 3 days, but was actively engaged in buying and selling hay until taken ill. The body was taken to the home of his grandson, Jay Smith, where services were held at 9:30 Tuesday morning conducted by Rev. O. L. Williams and the remains taken overland to West Mill Grove, near Fostoria, for burial.
Norrington was a first cousin to Levi Beadle who married Ennes Dunlap. They were the parents, among others, John William Beadle ((1847-1901) who married Malinda Melvina Hewitt (1850-1920), the parents of Samuel Odell Beadle, father of Marie, Linnie, Hazel, Edna and Margie.

Sarah Bedell md Thomas Hallock in Late 1700s, Lived Near Chatham, New Jersey

I have, from Littell's book on "the Passaic Valley, above Chatham", New Jersey, a reference to a Sarah Bedell, daughter of Moses and Elizabeth (Littell) Bedell, who married a Thomas Hallock, who lived "between the first and second mountain".

Has anyone researched the family of Thomas and Sarah (Bedell) Hallock? Can anyone point a person to what counties this area might be in to start looking for records? Published genealogies or published genealogy articles?

See:

http://books.google.com/books?id=Tdaujk3LswcC&printsec=f...

or

http://www.archive.org/stream/familyrecordsorg00litt/familyr...

Thanks for your support.

Hi Paula,

I sometimes have good luck with on-line searches at 5 am and just searched for "Norrington BEDALL." There seems to be people researching him:

http://records.ancestry.com/George_Bedall_records.ashx?pid=3...

http://records.ancestry.com/Norrington_Bedall_records.ashx?p...

http://records.ancestry.com/Ella_Mai_Bedall_records.ashx?pid...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/household_reco...

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(I research the BEDELL name for my step-cousins. My grandfather had 3 marriages, the 2nd one to a twice-divorced Mrs. Hazel (SHAW) (McAVOUR) BEDELL of Boston, MA, area.)

I love browsing in 2nd-hand shops, etc., but have only been to one official "estate sale." There are not many in my area. There were no personal items to be sold, like photos, but I did find some antique china in a miscellaneous box of items.

I see from an earlier message that I'm not the only genealogist to happen across Bedall goodies at an estate sale and want to reunite them with family!!

Today in Richmond, Virginia, I happened across a pile of old photos at an estate sale. Most were the typical unknown, unidentified photos, but two had a photography studio on the front and handwritten names on the back.

Both are portraits from M.F. Skidmore in North Baltimore, Ohio.

As for the handwriting, one says "Norrington Bedall, great grandfather" and the other says "Ella Bedall Smith."

There are no dates - neither printed nor handwritten. Semi-educated guess says they're late 1800s, probably 1890s.

I'm happy to scan and email them to anyone researching these people, and/or snail mail the actual photos.

Happy searching!

-Paula

I have a 3rd great grandfather George Bedell b. 1826 in NY. He lived mostly in Queens (Jamaica and Hempstead). His wife was Charity Frederick Bedell - they married in 1849. They had many children: Caroline F., Sarah E., Hannah H., George R., Frederick L., John H., Edward F., and Annie F. Both George and Charity were born in NY and their parents were born in NY, but I can't find any information on George's parents.

I know that there were a lot of Bedell's in that time period, and many of the names overlap. But, I'm not sure if/how my Bedells match up to the others I've read about.

I hope someone out there can help! Thanks!

Erin

Bibles found

I recently attended an Estate Sale and came upon a set of two Bibles with the a printed name of " Mrs Ansley Bedell".
They are in poor condition and in my estimate were used by the owner from the earley 1800's to about 1912.
As a genealogist I understand the importance of to these books to the family researchers. As for cost I only ask for the return of my postage which is about $ 10.00.

If interested please contact me by e-mail at kajak.pipeline.com

Craig-
I have put aside genealogy for quite a while now. Your recent post though will most likely mean that I will pull out my books/research and redevote myself to it. Always needed a good excuse. Yes, this is the family I have been doing research on. I did collect some things along the way since these posts, however I would be interested in correesponding and comparing.
Kathleen

Colleen,

Is it the Courtright name you know more about?? I have a Mahala Courtright that was born in 1821 in New Jersey (probably Sussex County), that I can find absolutely nothing on.

I know she married to a John Juno about 1843, they had two children while living in New Jersey, George L. Juno about 1847 and William Henry Juno on 13 Mar 1849 at Wantage, Sussex, New Jersey. They were living in Wantage in the 1850 census, but moved a short time later into New York.

Mahala is always shown as being from New Jersey, I have a birthdate for her of 27 Sep 1821; however, I do not know that this is accurate or not.

Please let me know if you can fit Mahala into the Courtright's you are aware of from Sussex Co., New Jersey.

Thank you.
