I am related to the Beechers of Appling County, Georgia, and would appreciate your sharing any Beecher family history. My grandmother told me that Henry Ward Beecher migrated from England, spent his first night on the river bank at Darien, later moving upland to Appling County where he settled and married a half-Cherokee Indian. She claimed he was a teacher in the community, had a large family. I have a picture of one of his daughters Gillie Ann, and a priceless tin-plate picture of two of his sons.

Thanks in advance for any response regarding my inquiry.

johnrobertbrewer@yahoo.com

Mercy Boland Beecher, d. 1903 Kearney, Nebraska

Kearney Daily Hub, May 26, 1903, pg 2

"OBITUARY: MERCY A. BEECHER
Tribute to the Blessed Memory of a Christian Woman
Funeral services for the late Mercy A. Beecher were held on Monday afternoon in the Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. C. First. The church was literally banked with the most beautiful floral offerings, a tender and beautiful tribute showing the high esteem in which Mrs. Beecher was held in the community. The service was simple and beautiful, from the most appropriate text, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

Obituary
Mercy Ann Boland, daughter of P. D. Boland and Lucinda L. (Allen) Boland, was born in Parisville, N. Y., March 10, 1837. At the age of twelve years she was converted and united with the Baptist church of Parisville, during the pastorate of the Rev. Mr. Maxley.
September 24, 1857, she was married to Mr. B. J. Beecher. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Beecher came west to Glava, Ill., where they made their home for a number of years, and where four children, two sons and two daughters were born to them. In 1888 they removed to Kearney, Neb., where Mr. Beecher die in March, 1888, and where the subject of this sketch lived until called up higher Sunday morning, May 24.
For several years Mrs. Beecher had heart trouble and during the past two years had been practically an invalid, though seldom confined long to her bed. Only the day before her death she sat on the porch for hours and went to the table for her supper. At six o'clock the following morning she quietly passed from earth to heaven.
For fifty-four years Mrs. Beecher was a most faithful and consistent member of the Baptist church. She was a woman of remarkable faith and of unfaltering loyalty to the God whom she loved to serve. Quiet, unostentations and reserved in manner, but strong and beautiful of character, hands never idle, a heart brave and true always, she was a constant inspiriation to her pastor, and the silent influence for good wrought upon those who knew her in her life can only be known in eternity. Mrs. Beecher's children all survive her, and all save the elder son, Howard Beecher of Peoria, Ill., are residents of this city. Rev. Allen Beecher is rector of the Episcopal church; Rosa, the elder daughter, is the wife of Mrs. John Wilson of this city; and Miss Mittie is a teacher in the public schools. In their bereavement the family has the deepest sympathy of the enitre community."

That is the same person. I've seen your tree on Ancestry, but I believe Leon lived, married and had a son. I've posted some pictures of his wife and son this morning. I think they eventually moved to Florida. His brother Leslie and family moved to Florida.

She was orphaned at age 5, but lived in the New Haven area after she got out of the "Mt Carmel Orphanage. Her grandmother, Annie Catherine Davis married Wm Webster Cowell. Mothers parents were Flora Mabel Cowell, married to Wm Henry Clark, also born in Woodbridge.

I grew up with so many stories. I always wanted her to write them down. Example: Harriett Beacher Stow, was the daughter of Henry Ward Bweecher, and was was related. Mother spoke of the Beardsly families, as being "connected". These perople were all in the New Haven area.

Becayse of your kindness, at age 74, I am finally able to put our family history together for my children, grand children and great grandchildren. My heartfelt thanks to you for your work and sharing.
Betty Rousseau.

She was born in Woodbridge, Ct. in 1905. She spoke of her Beecher, Davis, Cowell family often. I am trying to research these lines. Would yopu have any info to help me along? Thank you very much for your time.
Betty

Re: BEECHER-WOOD

As I indicated in a reply I posted to your other question regarding Lewis and Margaret Wood on the Wolfe County, QC board, Margaret Wood was the second wife of William Andrew Beecher. His first wife was Olive Flanders, who was the mother of Hazen(b. abt.1850, Canada; Burton, (b abt. 1852 in Canada); Victor (b. abt. 1856 in Canada) and Clarence (b.abt. 1859-1860, in Vermont).
On the 1851 Census of Melbourne, Sherbrooke County, Quebec, Andrew Bucher or Beecher (age 26) is listed as born in Canada, and his wife Olive (age 27) born in the U.S.
On the 1860 census for Canaan, Essex County Vermont, Andrew "Busher" age 35, is listed as born in New Hampshire, and Olive, age 36, born in New Hampshire as well. Hazen, Burton, and Victor born in Canada, Clarence born in Vermont.
In 1880, Clarence and Burton "Beacher" are living in Coos, Stratford County, New Hampshire. Father born in NH, mother born in MA.
The marriage record of Hazen Beecher and Mary Hinman on 5 Mar 1879 in Bloomfield, VT, states that Hazen was born in Eli, QC, Canada. (This probably refers to St-Elie). His parents are listed as William A. Beecher and Olive Flanders.
When Victor C. Beecher married Mary McDermott on 2 Jan 1885 in Colebrook, New Hampshire, Victor's birth is listed as 1857, Milburn (i.e. Melbourne), Quebec, Canada. Parents William A. Beecher and Olive Flanders.

On the 1860 census, in Canaan, Essex, Vermont, there was a Nathan Beecher, age 21, born in Canada (1838-39),living with Andrew and Olive and family. He may have been William Andrew's brother. Given all of the above, I would not be surprised if this Nathan, as well as your William Andrew, are the sons of Nathan Beacher who is listed in Colebrook, Coos, New Hampshire on the 1810 and 1820 census.
There is a tree on Ancestry listing a Nathan Beacher born in 1838 in Canada, the son of Nathan Beacher and Maria Cramer. This may or may not be your family. See:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7563328/person/-1063587795.

That's all for now.
MR

POW/MIA Korean War BEECHER

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Dade County, FL as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: WLIBERT CECIL BEECHER
Born:1931 Caucasian
Date of loss: 20 July 1950 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I am trying to find info on Edward A. Beecher; I know very little about him.

According to his marriage record, he was married to Martha B. Carnahan on June 27, 1906 in Lake County, Indiana.
They had a daughter, Flora Lorraine, b. appx. 1908 in Indiana

This is all the info I have on Edward - all my relatives who would know of him are passed now, and this is the only branch of my family tree I know NOTHING about.

Flora shows up in 1910 with the last name Beech(L)er, as with her mother, but Martha is listed as divorced to Edward.
The next time I can find Flora is in 1930 when she is married and has row small children - one of whom was my grandfather.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found this typed transcription of the Leman Beecher – Catherine Shew family bible among my mother’s genealogy papers, and have finally verified it sufficiently to share its contents. They are my g-g-g grandparents through their daughter Lydia Day Beecher.

Record of Leman Beecher and children (Taken from Family Bible)

Leman Beecher, born Feb. 12, 1795
Catherine Shew, born May 4, 1794
Leman Beecher, Married to Catherine Shew, Nov. 5, 1818

Family of Leman Beecher and Catherine Shew

Catherine Beecher, born Sept. 26, 1820
Hiram T. R. Slade married Nov. 13, 1850
James F. Beecher and Elizabeth Northrop married Nov. 27, 1852

This family structure matches exactly with these three sources:
1.1850 US Census for Washington, Dutchess County, NY. The family is indexed as Bucher.
2. Leman Beecher’s probate records, packet #2049, Dutchess Surrogate Court, State of New York, dated January 28, 1849. Although Catherine’s name is spelled with a C in most records, including the family bible, she signed her own name with a K in this probate record.
3. Biographical sketch of Hiram T. Beecher in Commemorative Biographical Record of Dutchess County, New York, published by J.H. Beers &Co., 1897, page 726-727. This sketch contains a lot of information about the family history.

Catherine was shown in the 1860 Census in Kent, Litchfield County, CT, living with her children Leman, Emily and Jacob. In the 1870 Census, she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Hannah and David Giddings in Sherman, Fairfield County, CT. She died August 14, 1877, age 84, in Sherman and was buried in Kent, according to Sherman Vital Records and North Congregational Church Records, also in Sherman.

Sharon Racis
You wrote that Clyde Beecher started the Nevada Club, I believe M. Broderick started the Nevada Club from the documentation I have, I have the original deed for the property and a business statement for the Nevada Club with M.Broderick's name on it. I also have a receipt for some machines from Beecher's Novelty Co. and a written signed release for legal obligations between M. Broderick and Clyde Beecher. I'm curious when and under what circumstances Clyde aquired the property, any info you have would be very helpful. Hopefully you still read these updates.

Amos Beecher of Floyd, Oneida, NY?

In 1820, Agnes Beecher (b. 1800, CT) married Richard Hamilton (b. 1798) in Floyd, Oneida, NY. Richard was a son of Elisha Hamilton who is on the 1820 US Census in Floyd, and three lines below him on the original form is Amos Beecher. Amos and family were the only Beechers in Floyd in 1820, so it is likely that Agnes is his daughter or a close visiting relative. Agnes, Richard, and Elisha all moved to Mexico, Oswego, NY.

Amos was apparently a popular name among the Beechers, but I've found nothing about any having a daughter named Agnes. Amos of Floyd did not appear on later Census records in Oneida Co.

I'm wondering if anyone recognizes this Amos and can share where he relocated or died, or if Agnes was a neice or cousin visiting Floyd when she met her future husband.

Thanks for any insights.

David
