Don't know if this is the one but I have a Thomas baptised in Atherington 21 Jan 1827 son of John Beer and Susanna nee SCOYNCE. John was a thatcher and unfortunately died in 1840 before any census would give us his age and place of birth . Susanna was from Chittlehampton, Devon born about 1790 she is last seen on the 1871 census. They had 14 children

Wanted to share this picture with the board. My great-grandmother was Elsie Lauster (née Beer). Her father was Absalom Wampler Beer who was the son of Jacob Beer, Jr. and Catherine Wampler. This picture was passed down to me through the family. It was in a wooden framed that had "Beer 1874" carved on the back. Based on that date I believe the picture depicts Jacob Beer, Jr. (1803-1878) with his son, Absalom Wampler Beer (1840-1912); granddaughter, Lottie Bell Beer (1869-Unknown); and grandson, Peter Beer (1871-1900). Lottie and Peter would have been my great-grandmother's older brother and sister.

Good day, Ann.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have found my great grandparents, Ferdinand and Emma. I want to continue to locate more information on my grandfather and more relatives and more about his life here in the US. I know about his life in Nicaragua through my Grandmother Charlotte Hodgson who was the mother of his two children, Cyril and Edna Mae Beer. He was a highly respected man in Bluefields and surrounding areas on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. I never met him; he passed years before I was born but I am always seeking info on my relatives.
Let me know if you have more info on my Granddad.
Thanks again, Ann.
Carmen Beer Bolduc

Hi. Yes, you are correct. This is the same family. I remember as a youngster meeting Lavinia at the home of her youngest brother "Bert" in Pictou NS. She was about 90 at the time. My grandmother Muriel (Beer) McLean was the daughter of Henry Beer and granddaughter of Robert. My mother is Katherine McLean (MacLean) of Halifax-daughter of George McLean and Muriel of Pictou. My mother remembers as a young girl going to River John from Pictou with her mother to visit with Annie (Gratto) Beer. Nice to hear from a cousin.
Bruce

It is my husband's family and George and Mary had a son Job Adams Beer (b. 1832) and him and his wife and George and Mary as far as I can tell all emigrated to NSW in about 1856 or so.

What branch of the line are you from???? Have you found much other information.

Maybe we can share some information.

Talk soon.

Justine Beer

Hello Bruce, do you have any information on John Beer b. 1765 in Chittlehampton? I have a William Beer b. 1801 in Devonshire. He emmigrated to southern Ontario about 1832. In the 1861 Census of Ontario there is a John Beer, age 96 (i.e. born 1765) from England visiting with William and his family (could John be William's father?). Any help would be appreciated. It is alleged that William came to Canada with 2 brothers (one named George) and that they were fruit farmers in Devon.

Regards, Ellen

In my first message on this issue PEI Beers and River John NS Beer families--Is there a link? dated 31 Oct 2009
I indicated that my first ancestor to River John was William Beer (1803-1862). In fact his father William Whitcomb? Beer arrived in River John between 1810 and 1817 and is noted in the 1817 census for River John as the Head of family aged 50+. I am guessing that his date of birth would be about 1765. It is understood that he came from the Devon region of the UK. I am still interested in determining a link with PEI families and wonder if the link actually occurred through George Beer born 1725 Chittlehampton, Devon (wife Elizabeth Moore). It is known that George Beer had two sons George b 19 Aug 1762 d 1839 in PEI and John b 17 Mar 1765. Is it possible that there may have been a third son William who emigrated to River John prior to the George Beer family emigrating to PEI in 1832-1834 timeframe? The proximity of River John across the Nortumberland Strait (about 10 nautical miles) to the George Beer family, the similarity of names in each family and particularly the unusual name Gulialma for both families in the 1870-1890 period strikes me as perhaps more than coincidental. Can anyone provide additional info on the George Beer Elizabeth Moore family Chittlehampton Devon(1725- 1770 period)which might help to clarify?
Bruce MacLean

I wonder whether anyone else is working on the Beer family from Modbury in Devon. I am working on the Beer's who I believe lived in Modbury for many generations (and may still do). The branch I am working from emigrated from Devon to Australia in the early nineteenth century. I have managed to trace which I believe to be my Beer line back to the early eighteenth century at Modbury with a few tantalising suggestions of generations that go into the 17th century.

The family is buried in the churchyard at Yarnscombe.

I would appreciate any information that you would care to share on Emma's parents and siblings. I have just begun the search in my husband's Beer family.
I beleive the Jacob Beer who married Elizabeth McAfoose is the son of Samuel, and grandson of Moses Beer. The Jacob Beer who married Mary Oplinger is the son of Amos. Amos and Moses are two of the eight children of Johannes Beer (c1700-before1777) of Lehigh Twp., Northampton Co., Pennsylvania.
