Dana:

I knew of the Beggs from Industry; there was a Lori Begg; my sister is also Lori Begg. We never knew the connection. But now that I know that they also originated from "Beg's Hill", it appears that perhaps my Great Grandfather is a cousin of Petar. My GG did have a brother that emigrated but returned to Croatia. There is some indication that he fought in WWI; I beleive his name was Daniel (Dana). I beleive he died when he was thrown from a horse and hit his head on a rock. Perhaps not, there are alot of accounts of events that have been handed down verbally.

I am the great granddaughter of Marko and Catherine Beg. I am proud to say I knew her and she was a wonderful Baba!,

My mom's father was Jospip Vuckovic. My grandmother 's name was Anna Simunic. my grandmother's parents Nick and Rosa buried a child in Monaca before WWI but I can't find records of any Catholic cometary there. Poor little thing should be remembered somehow...any thoughts on how I might discover where.

Nikola Beg was my grandfather, his brother was Marko, who lived in Aliquippa, I visited there many times with my family. Young Mark (now deceased) had the honor of being Mike Ditka's baseball coach in little league. He always said he taught Mike everything except behavior. The last contact we had with young Mark's daughter she was living in upstate NY. Nikola Beg's children included the other Joe Begg, who went by Nick, since his better known cousin had the Joe name used. I met THE Joe Begg once at a boys day game at Forbes Field. ( he had left the Yankees and was with Cincinnati at that time.) My father was Emil Begg of Swissvale his uncle Marko was a favorite of his. We buried a whole generation under the name Beg, but I guess we're all Beggs now.

Thanks Robert; that is my Great-Grandfather. They started out in Rankin PA; moved to Halton, PA to run a lumber camp in the depression of 1907, then moved to Aliquippa around 1910 or so. Marko's oldest son, Mark Jr., is my grandfather. Another son is Joe Begg(s). Do a google search on him. He was a professional baseball player. Another son, John, was KIA when U201 attacked and sank the ship on which he served (Stanvac Palembang) as a member of the US Navy Armed Guard.

My Great-Grandmother's last name was Zoretic.

Gjiero is not a name. The correct spelling (which is shown on the manifest) is Gjuro, which translates to George. He arrived 1901 not 1902. Destination is Pittsburg PA to

Also in re to the name BEZIAK it may have been BEZJAK as there seem to be no records of BEZIAK but plenty of BEZJAK.

There is a ship manifest arr at NY (Ellis Island) for Maria (mistranscribed as Mario) BEZJAK single age former residence Stativ (there are 2 places called Stativ in Croatia both near Netretic, they are Gornje (upper) and Donji (lower) Stativ. Her destination was to a sister, Jela (Helen) in Michigan she arrived July 1910.

Netretic was one of the place I stopped with my Croatian History and Genealogy tour group October 2007.

Both BEG and BEZJAK appear in the parish records for Zavrsje, which is the church for Netretic.

http://feefhs.org/cro/parish/mtk-hist.html

Robert Jerin
Croatian Heritage Museum
Cleveland Ohio

The name was later changed to George Beck. I am looking for any siblings or any other relatives that may have come to the USA. Our family name has died out and it would be wonderful to find that we stil have some Beg family somewhere.
