Hi, I am not related to Mary Begg, but we were in the same class in Primary, ie ex Dundonian.I was heading to New York and thought I would put out a message to try to raise any info on whereabouts.Last time I heard from her was way back in 1962. Tried BDM in the States but got nowhere with that. If you are successful in tracking her down please let me know!
Good luck!

Martin Begg and Allison Shaw in Ontario, Canada

I am looking for information about Martin BEGG b. about 1815 in Scotland and married Allison Shaw, in Scotland around the 1830's. The appear in the England 1851 because he was in the Royal Artillery. Martin died in 1873 in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada.

I have managed to find some children for Martin and Allison, namely Martin Shaw Begg, Alexander Begg, William Begg, Thomas Begg and John Begg. I have had little success in following their lines any further.

I would also like to find some information about Allison BEGG, nee SHAW, who's first name is sometimes recorded as Ellison BEGG, in some of the census' I've found.

The rest of Martin's siblings and his father came out to Australia in the mid 1800's and I am a descentant of one of those siblings. Martin is the missing puzzle piece to the family and I would love to be able to fill in some blanks in the tree.

Hope someone can help,
Linda

I am looking for information on my Paternal GR.Grandparents.
Richard J. Bagge born 1849 in Waterford, Ireland.
Married Hannorah Ahern (born 1847) in Waterford,Ireland.
I think they married in 1869 in Lismore and had one child Margaret in Waterford. In 1881 they moved to Swansea, Wales and had four more children Frank, William, Mary & Bridget. They immigrated to the USA in 1882. They had one more Son Richard born in the USA in 1885.
They used so many spellings of the name and that makes it very confusing. I did find a Richard & Hannah in the 1920
Federal Census. They lived at 184 West 67th Street.NYC.NY

IN 1959 we lived at 94-66 45th Ave, Elmhurst, NY. My Father was named Peter Francis Beggs & my Mother was named Alice
(nee: Callahan) We were all born in NYC & lived at 201 E.36th Street. It wasn't as fashionable to live in NYC in those days, but I loved it and the fashionation still exists today @67 yrd old. I know there is a way to do this e mail thing but I have to figure it out.We moved to Woodside 72-09 45th Avenue when I was nine and then to Elmhurst when I was 13yrs old abt 1956. I remember a women that visited once in awhile and she was from Staten Island.
If memory serves me correctly her name was Doroty Stack or
Strapp. I have always wondered who she was.

most of my cousins or second cousins live in Staten Island- any Baggs living in Staten Island is probably related. My Uncle Edward has at least 3 boys living in city. I started this years ago but with work gave up. I am now retired so can at least spend some time on it. I tried a few other sites but ancestry seems to be better. Where did your family living in the 50's. My Dad took us to see relatives when I was a child and it may have been your family. I remember that their last name was not Baggs- it was either Begg or Beggs. Is it possible to get each others e-mail address?

I sometimes hit a brick wall and then I get recharged up and start again. It can be very time consuming and if you don't use it enough the subscription to Ancestry is very expensive. I am thinking of trying to reconnect with the Grandson of Richard J. Baggs born Mar.18, 1885. When I lived in Nassau County abt. 15 yrs ago I met with him and he was a New York City Policeman. He really didn't have a lot of information but I am wondering if that has changed. I'm not real sure abt.this but can you see my tree and do you have the same information more orless. ??? I worked on this for hours today and I am weary.

Thanks for phone number I will start there - I don't know when they purchased the plot but I know when my gradparents died. Trying to keep family straight with William's family is confusing. My Dad had nephews that were just 8 years younger than him and they have children a little younger than me if not the same age. My granmother seem to be on a 5 year plan for the most part. One aunt was 10 years older than my Dad and had children way before my Dad.

how does one get copy of a cementary plot list.? My Dad was not a cementary visitor and I remember going to Calvary as a child and searching forever for my grandparents' grave. I know there were at least 6 to 8 people in plot. My Mom didn't know most of them. I was at cementary about 15 years ago if not longer when my Aunt Dot passed away but she is buried with her husband and son. Their plot is quite a distance from the other grave site. My grandparents are buried in older section.

Do you have the information I sent abt your Grandfathers Naturalization papers ? There is a James J.O'Neill listed as his witness for Naturalization. His occupatin is listed as Janitor @ 313 E 37th Street your grandfathers address as well.
My Grandfather Frank died 27th Oct.1922 & is buried in Calvery as well in a grave that was purchased by his brother brother Richard Baggs on 5/22/1922. Richard bought graves in Section 54 Plot 84 on 2/9/1922 and buried his wife Ellen Baggs (Nee Clancy)there on Feb 10th 1922. Apparently he bought the second grave when my grandfather Frank died because there was no money for burial.
Is this making sense to you ?? I Have a copy of who is buried and I pretty much know who they are.

From what you said - I do think they were brothers - I am trying to find something on the girls. My grandparents had a gentleman in 1900 living with them , James ONeill with a daughter, rose. He is listed as a brother-in-law. I don't know brother-in-law to William or Agnes. I don't get into city much but child was born in June 1898 and hope to see if register in NYC vitals - then I could see who mother of Rose is. A few years ago someone thought the girls had gone back to Ireland but I was thinking that perhaps one past away in child birth. We have a family plot in Calgary cemetery and there are people in plot that I don't know - I remember asking my Mom about it and she didn't know who they were.Any info you have on girls would be great - unfortunately names like Mary, Margaret and Briget are quite common.

My father was Peter Francis Beggs born Sept 18,1914 in New York City. His Father was Francis Baggs born in Wales on
20 th of August 1874 to Richard Baggs & Honoraha Ahern. My Grandfather Frank had a brother William born4th of August 1876 and a sister Margaret born abt 1872 in Waterford Ireland (where Richard & Honorah were born and married). The last child was born in the USA March 18,1885 .I think they arrived in abt. 1883. William J.Baggs had job as Asst.Superintendent the Post Office according to the 1930 Federal Census. He had a wife Agnes. He had three sons and & four grandsons living with him at 3408 30th Avenue, Astoria,NY. I know they lived on the lower east side of Manhattan when they came here & my grandfather shoveled coal in the winter and delivered ice in the summer.
I have a feeling your william and my Grandfather Frank were brothers . Lets keep digging unless you feel I am off base here. I have all the original birth certificates for Frank Baggs, William Baggs, Bridget Baggs, Mary Baggs.
I don't have a birth certificate for Margaret born in Waterford or Richard J. Baggs born Mar.18,1885 in NYC.,NY. I am that other person that contacted you abt. this.
Please let me know what you think.
I think they were brothers - my grandfather was born in wales and birthday was in August. Where did your great grandfather live or even your parents. My grandfather had several children and 13 grandchildren and William's family has just grown from that my Dad has 12 grandchildren and that is tip of iceberg. The ages of William's children go from one born in 1899 or around there - with youngest born in 1916. The other person who contacted me said that there was a child born in USA after Richard & Hanora came here. A lot of confusion since some family were Bagg, Beggs< begg. All of my father's siblings have passed away and many of my older cousins. Where did you parents live?

My Great Grandfather was named Francis Bagg, born 20th of August 1874 to Richard Bagg & Hanora Ahern. HIS PARENTS WERE BORN IN WATERFORD,IRELAND, HOWEVER HE AND SOME OF HIS SIBLINGS WERE BORN IN WALES. HE HAD A BROTHER WILLIAM BORN 4TH OF AUGUST 1876 IN SWANSEA. I FOUND A COPY OF NATURALIZATION PAPERS FOR A WILLIAM J.BAGGS, NATURALIZED ON MAY 21, 1900. HE WAS LIVING AT 313 E. 37TH STREET.NYC HE LISTS HIS BIRTH AS AUG 13,1875, PORT OF ARRIVAL NY NY DATE OF ARRIVAL FEB.22, 1883 WHICH SEEMS TO JIVE WITH WHEN RICHARD AND HANORAH ARRIVED. THERE WERE OTHER SISTERS AS WELL BUT I DON'T WANT TO CONFUSE THINGS.
DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE ?? I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR 20 YES AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT WHEN THERE IS NO ONE LEFT TO ASK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. COULD YOUR WILLIAM AND MY GR.GRANDFATHER HAVE BEEN RELATED ????
My problem is that I have two Begg men, George Charles and Alexander Begg that claim the same child William George Begg. William George is my great-grandfather. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on July 27, 1881. Savina (Lavina, Sevina, Serina) Elizabeth Ann Glover, is my great- great grandmother, was both of their wives. Savina is born Abt. 1859 in Saltfleet Township, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada. Savina married George Charles Begg in Wentworth, Ontario, Canada on January 16, 1878. They both resided in Saltfleet. At their wedding was John and Margaret Begg and George and Abigail Glover. Also present was Joshua and Martha Smith. They were Presbyterian and Methodist. Together Savina and George Charles had two children. The first was Joshua Hewitt Begg born February 10, 1879 and William George is born July 27, 1881. According to Canadian documents William George is the son of George Charles. Illinois records indicate that Savina married Alexander Begg on January 9, 1893 in Cook County, Illinois. Their year of immigration is 1895-1896. Illinois census records record Alexander Begg as William George's father. These are records from Chicago Ward 11, Cook County, Illinois. The rumor in the family was that Savina left George, leaving him to die of a broken heart and took the two children with her. Can anyone tell me anything about George or Alexander? Are they brothers or cousins or uncle and nephew? George Charles Begg is born Abt. 1857 in Paris, Brant County, Ontario and Alexander is born Abt. 1874. William George Begg and Frances Mary Kiley had my grandfather George Benedict Begg on May 20, 1903 in Park Ridge, Illinois. George Benedict Begg and Mary Katherine Hammond had my father Thomas Begg on February 14th, 1927. I am in dire need of any information anyone may have on George Charles Begg or the infamous Alexander Begg.

Hello, I am a descendant of the begg family, and I am looking to trace my roots. Is anyone aware of Beggs in the Caribbean. My mother was born in the island of Trinidad and Tobago and is the daughter of a Harold John Begg. His parents both were born in Scotland and migrated to Trinidad a generation before. Anyone aware of this lineage?

Thanks for asking Jillian but I've already got copies of all the documentation available from Scotlandspeople. I've noticed that other people researching this family are often missing Robert in their trees. If my memory serves right James Baillie died shortly before the birth of the third Baillie daughter so when Robert was born it would have been pretty obvious to everyone in the community that James wasn't the father and so he was given Janet's maiden name.

Feel free to e-mail me,
Russ Stewart

just read some entries and Matthew Begg and Janet Craig are my husband’s 3rd great grandfather and grandmother. His 2nd g grandmother was Janet Begg, who married James Baillie, but after his young death had an illegitimate child, Robert Begg in 1863. I do have some certificates of Matthew, Adam and Elizabeth if you would like a copy.

Looking for father of Morris Begg who married Mary Bandean (born 1812) in 1832 in the parish of Tillynysle??? (this is as best as I can read it) Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Morris, who became Maurice Beggs when he came to Australia, was born in 1800. All I have of his father is that his name was John and I believe the occupation is innkeeper. His mother's name is not known to me.
