My Great Grandfather Henry Behrens came from Hamburg Germany. (At least that is what the obit says). The obit also said he left home to be a sailor at the age of 16. He came to Iowa around 1872 and married Louisa Buck. The census show his parents were John Behrens and Catheren Schuman. I'm not sure if he had any siblings or what happend to the rest of his family from Germany. My Grandmother wasn't able to tell me anything about her Grandfather. She said in those days you were to be seen and not herd. If there is anyone out there that could help direct me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

There were Holtz's from Elgin that farmed west towards Rockford and might be the one that married into Wittwer Farms. Laptop in a shop is a concern; I'm an IT manager and sometimes laptop makers restore the hard drive back to original, deleting all apps and data. Hope this is not you or that you have data backed up.
I live in Southern WI. Are you in Milwaukee? I've communicated with a HOLZ from there. All these Holz/Holtz ancestors had big "farm families".

Jacob Behrens (1806-1889) is a first cousin of Salomon Levy Behrens (1780-1873). Jacob was the son of Nathan Behrens, and Nathan is the brother of Levy Behrens. I do not have any information for descendants of Julius Behrens.

Doug,
My family can be found in the same church as yours. Behrens or Behren, Wolff, Wittwer, and Holz is also in my family. Wolff married Behrens or Behren. Wittwer married Wolff, Holz married Maass, Holz married Plambeck or Plumbeck..and the Holz family has connections in the IL/Milwaukee area. Holz family remembers trips to Il to visit family. This makes me believe this could be one of the best leads for a connection for someone in the IL area. As for the Wittwers, which married into the Behrens family, my problem, is that I have been unable to locate other siblings families in the IL area. I have heard of a brother named Gustav Wittwer, who headed west, and that is all I have on him. Just now, I noticed by googling that there is a Wittwer Bros. farm in IL. Contact with that family may pay off if they have any genealogy information. Shot in the dark, but a Wittwer in that area might be related. I do know from the church records where in GR the family came from, but that is about it. In the church records you will find the marriage of Henry Wittwer and Fredericke Wolff. My laptop with most of the info is in the repair shop right now but would be willing to exchange what I have with you. May be reaching here, but all these names just keep going round and round..just can't quite find the connection..yet...Can be contacted at elkatraz@q.com. All baptized at St John's Lutheran Church in Elgin.
I was born in Elgin 1947 and am seeking info on many of this large-branched family.
Berendts from Pomrania

I am looking for any possible Berendts (or similar spellings) family ties to Prussia, particularly NE Germany or Poland. My 2nd great grand father was Hermann Gottfried Berendts (1852-1911) who was born in Saxony and died in Stettin. There apparently was at least one brother and uncle alive at the time of his passing. These names have been lost over the generations, however, and I am desperately trying to explore any possible family ties. Children's names include Karl, Rheinhold, Hermann and Ella. Other related family names include Bliesener (Posen area). My sincere thanks for any possible leads to NE Germany families with the last name of Berendts during the above time frame.

Drew Berendts

Heinrich Carl Behrens

I am looking for anyone who might have information about Heinrich Carl Behrens, born c1830 in Schaishin?, Germany, died July 15 1902 in Caboolture, Queensland, Australia. After emmigrating to Australia he married Wilhelmine Johanna Bencke, born c 1856, died October 24, 1924 at Caboolture, Queensland, Australia, they had 10 children (all born, lived & died in Queensland, Australia). From what I have been told by family members he abandoned a wife and children in Germany to come to Australia. He is my 2nd Great Grandfather on my mother's side of the family and apart from his children the only other information I have been able to obtain is that his parents were John Ernest Behrens who married Anna Magdalina Rothman. Unfortunately due to a deep family dispute between himself and some of his children, the only surviving family members refused to talk about him (they have now all passed away). If anybody out there has any other information I would greatly appreciate them contacting me as it's frustrating that I cannot get any further with this branch of my family tree.

Behrens

I'm trying to research the figure of Julius Behrens (1828 - 1888), the Manchester merchant, son of Solomon Levi Behrens (1788-1873), and brother of Emma, Georgina, Charles, Hannah, Adolph, Lionel, Edward, Francis (Frank) and Horatio Behrens. I believe the main family line continued through his brother Edward (1837-1905), whose offspring were: Walter Lionel (1861-1913), Annie Juliana (1862-1945), Oliver Philip (1863-1953), George Benjamin (1865-1931), Helen Alice (1866-1904), Kate (1867-1916), Richard Gompertz (1869-1940), Clive (1871-1935), Harold Lucas (1874-?) and Noel (1878-?). It is with this generationthat I lose the thread of any possible descendants of this branch of the Behrens of Manchester who originated from Germany, and were related to Sir Jacob Behrens (I think a brother of Solomon Levi Behrens). I would be most grateful for ANY information regarding the family in the 19th century from descendants, especially regarding Julius, whom I believe had no offspring. had studied at Rugby School and Oxford University and left his will to brothers Edward and Frank. He may have been a keen equestrian and huntsman, as well as mountaineer (probable ascent of the Mont Blanc in 1861). It is in his respect as mountaineer I would like to receive any information, as he may well have been a pioneer of the second highest summit in the Pyrenees, the Posets. Thank you.

I know her birthdate and death date from her funeral home records and death certificate. Unfortunately, she has no mother listed anywhere. All it says is her father is Frederich Behrens. Do you have any other info on her, such as her birthplace, mother's name, etc.?
