Hi
I am thinking more and more now that Rebecca was William Belvilles daughter, I dont think Elizabeth, her mother, ever married him, lots of illegitimacy which makes tracing them very difficult. I have not been looking too much into the Nye family because I dont think I am descended from them. Shame.

Denise
Hi
In 1841 Henry Nye was not on the Census as living with his wife and 2 children, but William Belville was as a lodger.Rebecca was born in 1841 so I can only conclude she must have been the daughter of William. Are you connected to the Nye side of the family, I think they came from Henfield. Henry Nye was named on her birth certificate and his occupation was watch maker.

Hi Pauline

I only thought there may be a jewish connection because my Gran thought we were of French jewish descent, and there I was a few days ago thinking 'at last'! I have found the French connection and now we could be Spanish!! Oh no, I thought I had the whole family tree search wrapped up and I could stop looking. Have you any photographs of the Belvilles? Rebeccas daughter(my Great Grandmother)died in 1964,she was in her 90s and I just about remember her.

Does it say anything on Johns settlement papers? Is is possible that I could have or see a copy of the papers?

with regards

Denise

Hi.I am the great great granddaughter of Harriett Nye.I do believe your Rebbecca to be Harriett's half sister,i would agree with you in thinking that William is Rebbecca's father. Was this the reason maybe that Henry Nye left Elizabeth and enlisted in the British army?
I was interested to hear that Harriett was a nurse, she had two illegitimate children,a Mary Jane Nye that was my great grandmother.
My grandfathers family all lived in the Brighton area. I don't have any other connection to Belvilles,Lewis or Bonds.
hi Denise
I am so sorry, I dont know what I was thinking. I am a descendant of Mary Ann Belville [born 1798] SISTER of your William, and John. She married Francis Finnis in Worthing. When he died, she continued giving birth to 3 more children, father unknown. One of these was my Louisa, who, because of being illigitimate, married under her mother's name of Belville, to Stephen Daniels 1857 Brighton. Soon after they moved to London so I no longer continued my research in Brighton so I cannot help with your Lewis/Bond names.
Regarding your previous message, why did you think they were Jewish? I dont know where in France they came from, I was always told they were Spanish! Maybe they came from the borders of France/Spain?
regards, Pauline

Hi just reading your info re Nye/Belvilles from Brighton. I am the great great granddaughter of Rebecca Nye/Belvilles.She is the sister of your Harriett. The only info i have re Harriett is that she was a nurse working in the Brighton Racehill Workhouse (now Brighton General). Rebecca was born worthing to Henry Nye/Elizabeth, he was on the birth certificate but not named as the father at her christening, can only assume she must have been William Belvilles daughter as a lodger living with them in at the time. Do you have any Lewis's / Bonds appearing on your family tree all lived in Brighton around 1850s onwards

hi Denise

Yes, the Belville's were from France. I have a copy of John Belville's Folkestone settlement papers, dated 19th August 1790. John and Elizabeth were your William's grandparents.
Elizabeth Mitchell [wife] was born in Broadwater 1753.

regards, Pauline

hi

A couple of years ago I was contacted by someone else regarding this family.

Rebecca Jane Nye was born 22nd Oct 1841 and baptised in Worthing on 21st Nov. 1841. Mother Elizabeth, blank space for father's name, however, it does say 'seperated from husband'. I would assume William was the father, they marry[?] and go onto have other children. William is the brother of my ancestor John.

regards, Pauline
Hi, I too am related to the Nye,Belville family - I am the great, great, great grandaughter of Elizabeth Nye/Henry Nye. Their daughter Rebecca is my great great grandmother. Elizabeth married? William Belville and they moved to Brighton, Elizabeths daughter Rebecca Jane Nye married George Bond and they lived in Brighton and I am related throught one of their daughters Maria and one of her daughters Grace (my Gran). Been puzzling over the Belville/Nye name for years and finally found that Elizabeth seperated from her husband very soon after Rebecca was born. We wondered if Rebecca was Williams daughter as he was a lodger with the family at the time of her birth.

HI,
You responded to my sisters post about your grandfather being Harry Belvill, One of his daughters is your mom.
Is your mom Louise or Deena?
If either, you can contact me through my email address (I don't check out ancestry.com very often and neither does my sister).
My name is Sherri, sister is Gail, my email is:
dontemailmee@peoplepc.com
I have had this email address for years and plan on having it many more years, so even if it is a year or two from now when you read this go ahead and email me. Just put something in the subject line like: regarding Harry Belvill, or grandpa, etc.
Otherwise if I don't see a subject that catches my attention then I delete. My email allows me to delete without ever having to view the email.
I hope to hear from you soon until then Have A Nice Day,
Sherri Belvill
Phoenix, Arizona
Hi Pauline
Thank-you for solving the mystery of the Nye surname.
I couldnt work out why on the census returns harriet was listed as Elizabeth and williams daughter and with the Belville surname.I was going down the wrong road looking for a birth of a Harriet ann Belville, that of course i couldnt find.
Harriets daughter Mary Jane who is my great grandmother has the surname Nye on her birth certificate but no fathers name,so you can see my query in the Nye surname.
Im unable to find a marriage of Harriet ann Nye, apart from mary J born 1866 she had a son Alfred Nye born about 1858.
So your information now tells me that Elizabeth Nash is my Great Great Great Grandmother and William Belville is not my Great Great Great Grandfather.
Harriet lived at 22 Washington street Brighton in the Belville Household.
Tonia

hi Tonia
In 1841 William Belville is living in Broadwater with Elizabeth Nye and her 2 children Harriet [3] and Henry [7].
Harriet Ann Nye was baptised in Broadwater 22nd Sept 1839, parents Henry Nye and Elizabeth.
I've had a quick look and cannot find the death of Henry or the marriage of William Belville and Elizabeth. I did find that Elizabeth Nash married Henry Nye 11th Nov. 1833.
My Louisa was first cousin to William and Elizabeth's children.
Please let me know about Harriet, did she marry and live in Sussex?
Pauline
Dec 2002 a glgdb requested info on Cora Belville who married William Lorenz. I believe she was the daughter of Thomas Belville and Mary McCarty who were my great grandparents. Their children were Cora, Forest, Cleo, Wm, Major, Gwen, Willard, Samuel, Myron, and Bessie. They lived in Muskingum and Morgan counties as well as Noble Co.
Cora Lorenz was in Liberty, Guernsey County in 1920 and in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio in 1930. She had two daughters, one was Mildred. In Jan. 1946 she was in Columbus, Ohio. I believe she died in Columbus, Ohio. That is all I have on them. I am the granddaughter of her brother Samuel which is how I have the info. I am trying to find out more about the family too.

Anyone searching for Belville family in UK? I have a copy of the Folkestone settlement papers for a John Belville, 1790. On it it states he was 'a foreigner, born in France'. Born about 1751, he married in Sussex, 1775. May have connections to a Belville family living in St Marylebone, London.
Would love to hear from anyone connected to this family.

Ms. Theresa Bell:

I am a descendant of Ichabod and Marinda (Malinda?) (Bellville) SIBOLE. Marinda, on the 1880 Grand Junction Twp., VanBuren County, MI Census responses indicated her father was from Delaware and her mother from Maryland.

Your 2001 post says that Peter Bellville was from Delaware and therefore I am wondering if my "Marinda" was his daughter Malinda. Do you know if Peter's wife, Phebe Bennett, was from Maryland? Do you know who Malinda married? My "Marinda" married an Ichabod SIBOLE. The Siboles made it to Van Buren County, MI by at least the 1860 Census.

Regards,
Jack Brown
Cape Cod, MA
