Why was a Ren(t)fro child named after a Bence?

Does anyone know why Robert Ren(t)fro and Catherine Goodwin (Goodwin may be maiden or married, unsure) named a child John Bence Rentfro in 1824? They were living on Cherokee land in northern Alabama at the time, moved to McMinn county Tennessee in 1826. Another son of theirs also named one of his children John Bence. Does anyone have any idea if there's any relation or if they just thought enough of a Bence to name a child after him? Robert was born in either TN, KY, or VA, Catherine in NC.
