My name is Aly Benitez from Orlando, Florida. My father is Jose Rafael Benitez (father Agustin Jose Benitez and mother Sofia Otero) from Havana, Cuba.

My grandfather's (Agustin Jose Benitez) family is from Canary Islands.

My great grandfather's name was also Jose Benitez (from Canary Islands) and my great grandmother's name was Estelle Heyman de Gandara (from Tampa, Florida).

My grandmother's name is Sofia Pelaez Otero. Her mother's name was Sofia Pelaez y del Casal and her father's name was Austin Otero y Miguel.

It seems to be difficult to find information (probably due to the great number of Agustin and Jose Benitez!) but if you have any leads or information I'd really appreciate it!

Hello. My name is Minerva Benitez. I was curious about your story because I am trying to find out my family history. My grandfather's name was Pedro Benitez. He also lived in Victoria, TX. I don't know where he was born but I know he was born in 1920. I know he had a brother named Vicente and Angel. Do you know if maybe my grandfather was related to your family? Hi Eric... I am interested in your list. This is what I do know. My grandfather and his family were from Vieques. He was born Jesus Benitez Martinez, his father, I am told was Abelardo Benitez (don't find anything on him) and his mother was Rosa Martinez de Benitez. Jesus later changed his name to Carlos J. Benitez, married Candida Almira had three children, divorced and married Nemesia Rivera from Bayamon. He died in Bayamon in 1950. It's a big mystery regarding my grandfather and his ancestors. Any help would be great.

Astor Luis Benitez was in corea after the death of his wife. His father was Eleuterio Benitez Sierra, my father Jose Edwin Benitez was in Vietnam before a was born in 1971, Irma Alicia Benitez Lopez. My curiosity is what really happen with my grandmother, my father's mom. She died when my father was one years old. And that's why my grandfather was send to corea. I now live in Texas, but was raised in New York...yes, consider myself a Nuyorican, 2nd generation. Found out recently that mi abuelo was born in the Andalusia region of Spain. Grandpa Louie had blue eyes. His dad was Zenon Benitez. moved to Puerto Rico at the beginning of 20th century. I'm sure some of you have to be distant cousins!

Hi. I am from El Salvador, and my grandmother's name was Margarita Benitez. (She died in '93 in the U.S.) I remember she use to tell stories of her grand-mother (which was a native El Salvadoran) marrying a spaniard man with colored eyes. Hola! My name is Adolfo Benitez Valiente. Although I live in Helsinki, I am originally from Canary Islands is Spain. My grandfather was a Benitez, like some of his brothers, that emigrated to Cuba in the early 1900s. It was very common from people from Canary Islands to emigrate to places like Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Argentina, etc. since the route of ships that went to America passed in many cases by Las Palmas or Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Damaris, my dad said his father lived in Cienfuegos, and although he went back to Fuerteventura in the 1930s - 1940s, his brother stayed in Cuba. Wondering if we could be connected. Do you have any family leaving there? What was the name of your grandmother? My grandpa was Juan Benitez. Cant remember his second surname but will know by tonight.

Hello Mr. Benitez, I'm from a small town in Ohio.. My father (Juan M. Benitez) is from Victoria, Texas... His father (Vicente b. Benitez) is also from Victoria. His Father was Fransisco M.Benitez.. Now this is where it gets a little frosty, Fransiscos father(Isaac Benitez) and two of his brother came to the victoria area in the 1830 with the delean party. The Mexican president was trying to keep white settlers out so he was giving away to anyone 300 acre, that would settle and farm it .... so that is what I know for sure.. I have censess, paper work , news paper clippings.. Now This is what I have been told by the older clan, aunt ,uncle.. We come from mexico matamotos.. any help would be great... Thank you...

DOD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Oct. 14 while conducting combat operations between Moqur and Darreh-Ye-Bum, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.

Killed were:

Sgt. Carlos A. Benitez, 24, of Carrollton, Texas.

They were assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

My gran mother on my mother side was a Benitez from either Caguas, Puerto Rico or San Lorenzo Puerto Rico. My gran mother died somewhere in the 1920's. She married my gran father Leopoldo Arzuaga. From my mom, all I know both the Benitez and Arzuaga families where pretty well off. And both families ancestors where from Spain.

spain our Family motto was De bon vouliour servir le rey( to serve the king in right and good)We use to be the equivelent of an embassy now a days We'd be concidered dukes counts and countesses today we had our own military and fought against many historic armies .But our down fall if you want to call it that was that the king which we served turned against the people and the people came to us or family for help and our protection after many months of battle our family was mostly wiped out except for those that were sent away.Most of us migrated to cuba , ect and all around the latin american countries today. My uncle in cuba still has the land deeds for our family castle that now bedlongs to the government in spain.

Hi,

I checked all my records. The only thing I can find is a reference from the church records in my notes.

Vieques Baptism records index 1894-1903:

It says Georgina Limardo Benitez page 280.

But I can't find any other reference.

You would have to search the church records on microfilm.

I searched those microfilm records about 10 years ago and I didn't fully document every Benitez because alot was difficult to read.

So if it's readable her baptism record may be there.

I am a Benitez from Vieques but the Benitez family from Vieques originally came from Spain. Have you been able to trace any Benitez families in Spain back to the early 1800's or late 1700's who went to Purto Rico?
