So I want to know who the parents of Cody Bennett are. I do not know anything about him, except that his wife's name was Chloe Beatrice Spivey, daughter of Arthur Julian Spivey and Myrtle Mae Williams. Anything you know about Cody would really help me. Thanks!

Hi Greg,

Unfortunately, I don't know of any surviving male Bennetts in my family. Bennett was my maternal grandmother's maiden name, and if there are any surviving males of that line, I don't personally know them.

I don't have a Thomas Bennett in the correct years in my tree yet, however there are a couple of branches that I have yet to explore. If I come across anyone with the correct dates, I will let you know!

I'm trying to "jump the pond" with my earliest known ancestor of my surname, Bennett: Thomas Bennett (1811-1852). He told an 1850 census taker in Iowa that he was born in England. I'm trying to find out WHERE in England. To that end, I've taken two DNA tests. I wonder if one of your male Bennett relatives has taken a DNA test they would feel comfortable sharing with me.
Thanks,
Greg
greg.bennette.org

Hello,

I'm looking for any information on the Bennett family from Keith, Scotland.

My 5th Great Grandfather is James Bennett (1753-1838), married to Margaret Sellar (1752-1815), and with siblings Isobel (b. 1776), Elesabeth (b. 1778), Margaret (b. 1785), Alexander (b. 1788), John (b. 1791), George (1793-1859), and Jannet (b. 1796).

Any additional information you might have regarding relations to these individuals would be appreciated!

I understand that it is short notice, but I have planned a trip to Keith, Scotland early in June 2012. I have located burial records for some of the above mentioned Bennetts and more recent relatives for the Old Keith cemetery, and plan to visit the cemetery to photograph any remaining headstones or plots. Identifying any other potentially related Bennetts, that may also be in that cemetery, prior to my visit would be a great benefit!

I'm looking for Thomas Bennett (b. c 1811 in England, d. 1852 on the Oregon Trail). He named his second daughter Mary Elizabeth - probably after his mother-in-law, Mary Agnes (his first child was named Dolly Agnes) and his mother, perhaps. I don't know the names of Thomas Bennett's parents or where he was born in England.

Thomas Bennett was my 3GGF. I know he came to the US before 1846 when he purchased property in Iowa.

Any chance your Elizabeth Bennett had a brother named Thomas, born circa 1811?

I've done a DNA test, too, in hopes of connecting with a Bennett in England. No success yet.

Best wishes,
Greg
greg.bennette.org

Looking for information on my GG Grandfather Roy H Bennett. He was born in the early 1900's I believe, in either Tazewell, or Big Stone Gap, Virginia. I believe he died in 1968. Word has it, he worked for the railroad, and was somehow involved with the church. I have a photo of him that I can attatch if anyone wants to see him. He married a woman named Annie Waddell, who died pretty young. They had a bunch of children, one of which was my great grandmother, Mary. If anyone has any information on him, please help me. I really don't have any more resources and I really need help. Would love to find out who his parents were and trace my tree. - Thank you,
Kayla

William Bennett d. 1806 KY

I am not aware of any DNA testing for the Bennett surname. Since the William Bennett who d. 1806 in Barren County, KY was deceased before the Revolutionary War pension bill was passed, I have no way of knowing if he served in the Rev. In the "Annals of Southwest Virginia 1769-1800: there are several references to a William Bennett, in Washington County. Also the index has an Isaac Bennet, John Bennett, William Bennett and Richard Bennett listed. On pg 1419 a Wm Bennett is listed as wounded, Private in the Cherokee Expedition, Aug. 1776. This is my lastest spark of hope. The migration pattern would fit. There is a deed listed 1781, Aug 30 Wm Bennett grantee for Washington County. However, most deeds do not give family information. Has anyone researched in Washington County, VA?
Has anyone in this message thread taken a Y-DNA test? That might set some things straight (or not). I'm looking for Thomas Bennett who appears in Grandview, Louisa Co, IA in the 1850 census and who purchased land in Iowa in 1846, married Phoebe Creswell in 1848, and died on the Oregon Trail in 1852. He stated in the census that he was born abt 1811 in England. It's a long shot, I admit, but I wonder if maybe he wasn't from England (perhaps an outlaw?). Thomas married a very religious girl from a very religious family, so it doesn't seem likely, but hey, I know so little about my 3rd GGF. I'm still hoping for a DNA link.
Greg

I'm also a Bennett researcher. My stumbling block is James B. Bennett born around 1810 and living in the Breckinridge, Meade county area. His wife was Emily West. I haven't been able to discover a thing about James B. He died around 1847. If I uncover anything about the people you're looking for, I'll let you know.

Andrea

Mike:
I am a Bennett Researcher also. My GG Grandfather was Andrew Bennett born in Kentucky in 1801, location currently unknown. Andrew Bennett lived in Jennings County, Indiana as early as 1820. I believe his father to be William Bennett based on some executor sales records after the death of William Bennett in Jennings County, Indiana in 1843. I believe William came with a brother John Bennett from Kentucky. I have found possible brother pair in Kentucky in the 1810 Kentucky Tax records. A William and a John appear in Barren, Mason and Madison Counties. But have no idea which it may be if any. I know Andrew Bennett's wife Catharine "Kitty" Osborn was born in Owen County in 1811, then Pendelton County. But have no Idea if the families know each other at that time. My William Bennett was born between 1770 and 1780 based on the 1820 Federal Census. If you have any information on this Bennett line please let me know.

I am researching Wm Bennett, d. abt. 1806 in Barren County, KY. His land was given to his son, Stephen Bennett. A Wm Bennett purchased land in KY 1780 on the South Fork of the Elkhorn as did Stephen Bennett. In Wm Bennett's will he also mentions land on "Puncheon Creek" in Tennessee. My theory is that he may have traveled west from VA, NC,? This is all guesswork. However, in the "Annals of Southwest Virginia 1760-1800 there are four references to a Wm Bennett in Washington County VA. One is Wm Bennett, wounded Private in Wm Christian's Cherokee Expedition, Aug., 1776. Also a possible land deed between Campbell & Wm Bennett 1775, land on South Fork of the Holston. Other Bennetts mentioned are Isaac, John and Richard. Would anyone on this message board have a connection to this Bennett line or possible assistance in researching materials? Does anyone know if the Clerk's office in Washington County has deeds for 1775 time period? Thank you Sharon
