I can't seem to find any information on a Jane Barrington in my records - but then all my Berrington's spell their name categorically with an E rather than an A - so probably a different branch of the family :-)

Yes.. we're certainly related. The binder was done up by Dorothy in 1991 -

Frank Berrington was a younger brother of George Berrington who is my Grandfather - i'm the daughter of Arnold, who is the son of George - so that makes us.. um.. either 2nd cousins or 1st cousins twice removed.. I can never work those out.

when I started researching the Temples and Ferrys - George's Wife's family - I found out I'm living right in the same neighbourhood where they came from!

I have that same binder so we probably are directly related.
My dad was Stan Berrington son of Frank Berrington. I too got sidetracking with the maternal side of the family, I really haven't done much for awhile. I entered a lot of the info from the book as well. The funniest thing that happened right after I got the book and skimmed through it - turned our my son's gym teacher was a third cousin!

I suspect that we're the same family - I'm a Calgary Berrington as well - and I also suspect that we've got the same information that was accumulated by the other family branch. I've put that all in gedcom format now as I originally got it in a big binder.. but I'd be happy to swap info with you :-) I was hoping to trace the berringtons back further earlier than James - but then I got interested in Bagshaws and Tafts and Ferrys from other branches of my family :-)

I'm not a researcher - but I'm a Berrington - and I have a bunch of info on my branch of the Berrington's in Shropshire (Corely area) and their descendents

specifically I've got some tracing back to a James Berrington 1789-1846 of corely shropshire - and there's notations for a grandfather of his.. but with no date of birth.

I am assisting a friend with her BERRINGTON / BARRINGTON research.
Jane's NEW ZEALAND death certificate states born SHROPSHIRE & her parent's John & Jane BERRINGTON. Jane married 1833 LIVERPOOL, LANCASHIRE.
I suspect she is the one recorded as Jane BARINGTON baptised 27 Nov. 1813 ELLESMERE, SHROPSHIRE.
There is a 1811 Marriage for John BERRINGTON & Jane DAVIES, ELLESMERE, SHROPSHIRE
I have also found a Thomas Westley BERRINGTON christened 9th Aug. 1812 CHRIST CHURCH, SOUTHWARK, LONDON to John & Jane BERRINGTON.
Are these people known to any of the B*RRINGTON researchers?

Are your family connected to Pant y Goitre House and Major Berrington - I dont know his Christian name? My father always wanted to find him and thank him for his hospitality on 9th January 1941 for a few days.
I know that Maj Berrington's son was killed soon after in the RAF and I have visited his grave.

I dont have Berringtons in the family but I know of the "squire" who lived near Abergavenny in Wales - at Pant y Goitre House. (Beautiful house and location)
Major Berrington gave my father hospitality after his Bomber crashed nearby on 9th January 1941.
The major plied the crew with his very good cellar for a few days whilst they waited for transport to return to RAF Newton 103 squad.
Berrington had a son who was a pilot in the RAF and he was killed soon after in tragic circumstances.
I was in the area and we went to their graves.
I was told that the family had visited the lovely old house not long before and that the surviving daughters (who must be dead now) were living in Canada. Do you know anything about this branch of the family? Their papers are archived and they had been landowners in Wales for a few generations.

Am looking for Francis Berrington born c1854. Can only find him in 1881 census where he says born Leamington Spa. He married in 1878 in Chippenham, Wilts and left his wife in 1881 with a young child. She died 1885 and it states she was a widow but I can find no death for him, nor any birth or baptism. On marriage certificate, he says his father was William Berrington, a cab proprietor.

Can anyone find him?

that information on "my" first entry James is especially interesting. as well as "my" james' siblings

One of the things that annoys me with my family tree is that every single generation has so many people named James, William, Thomas and Richard.. oh.. and George - they weren't very creative were they? I guess when you have so many kids it helps if most of them have the same name ;-)

Martin, I'd be happy to share my gedcom file with you .. if you'd be happy to share yours with me.. very interested in continuing to persue this in my spare moments :-)

My Maternal Grandmother was Ruth Berrington born 1883 in Toxteth Park area of Liverpool Merseyside. She married Joseph Lofthouse in 1902 in Toxteth Park area. All born in Bryn Mawr, Brecon. Isabella moved to Wolverhampton with Charles and Sarah between 1871 & 1881 after William died. Charles married Emily Bigford Wolverhampton in 1885.

I don't have any information on the William listed as living in the home Joseph and Margaret Berrington in 1880, but I will check with my second cousin (Peggy Ferrier) who has done more work on our genealogy than me. She may know if his middle name was H and if was married to Jessie M Gibson. She also visits this website, s she may answer you directly.

Peggy and I are actually a descendants of both Charles and Hattie (Joseph & Margaret's children). Charles was the only child born to Joseph and his first wife who died at a young age. Joseph then remarried to Margaret and had the remaining children, so Charles was a 1/2 brother to the others. Charles's son, George John Berrington, married Hattie's daughter, Maggie (McGreggor). George and Maggie are my Great Grandparents! Back then I think it was OK for cousins to marry???? I turned out OK!

I am looking for infor regarding my Great Grandfather, William H. Berrington who married Jessie M. Gibson in 1881. According to the 1880 Census of Cuyahoga Co., Ohio in the household of Joseph & Margaret Berrington were the following:
Charles, age 22, Wm, age 20, Hattie, age 15, Samuel, 12, John, 10, Jessie, 7, and Ella ,4. Could Wm. H. Berrington be this Wm? Wm. H. died in 1891 of pluerisy; Jessie died in 1893 of consumption leaving 3 children, Wm, Rob't, age 10 (my grandfather) and Hazel.

Cuyahoga Co. records show no birth records for Wm. H. and his marriage license does not have his parents names on it.

Any info of connection would help. Thanks.

I have been researching the Shropshire Berringtons for a friend of mine and may have some info for you

I have found James Berrington christened at Hope Bagot (just over 3 miles from Coreley) on 28th June 1789. This is probably the James you are referring to who had a family at Coreley, though I note you have a slightly different date.

James was the son of William Berrington and Mary Anthony. William was christened at Burford 22 June 1755. Mary came from Richard's Castle. They married at Burford 7 March 1779.
I believe Mary was buried in Ludlow 24 April 1809
Their children :
John - baptised at Greete 20 Dec 1779 (buried 8 days later)
William - baptised at Greete 5 April 1781
John - baptised at Greete 20 April 1783
Thomas - baptised at Hope Bagot 12 March 1786
James - baptised at Hope Bagot 28 June 1789
Mary - baptised at Hope Bagot 3 March 1793
Benjamin - baptised at Hope Bagot 13 Dec.1795

James's father, William was the son of Charles Berrington and Anne Granger at Burford 22 July 1750. Charles was buried at Greete 29 June 1785 and Anne was buried at Greete 12 Jan. 1797

I believe my friend to be descended from the other son of Charles and Anne, John who was baptised at Greete 8 Oct. 1752.

I have assumed that the the Hope Bagot and Greete baptisms are the same family. There's an elememt of if and maybe about it, but I believe that is your family.

Hey folks... I am looking for any info I can get on the Berringtons of southern Salop / Shropshire.

My berringtons are from the Corely / Ludlow area, mostly farm labourers - and my earliest record is of James Berrington b. September of 1789 in Coreley (Salop & Worcester) and died Nov 7, 1846

James married Ann Williams (1795 Burford - 1879 coreley) and had 10 children of which I have records, mostly, for William Berrington b: 1832, Cleobury Moritmer d: 1890

I'd love to share all my info in gedcom - and I'd love even more if somebody can enlighten me as to James' parents, siblings or descendents of his kids other than William.

My great-grandfather Charles Berrington was born in Abergavenny to William and Isabella (Hill) Berrington in 1855. After William died Isabella and the children Charles, George and Sarah moved to Wolverhampton in Staffordshire.

I am also related to Joseph Parrish Berrington. He was my 3G grandfather. My 2G grandfather was Charles Berrington, my great grandfather was George John Berrington; and my grandfather was Albert "Bert" Berrington of Fillmore, CA. My father is Donald Larry Berrington of Fillmore.

Yes, that is the same family.

Cotton End is only a small village ~ a chuch & a chappel, a small infants school and 2 pubs [one of those doubles up as a shop] but not even a post office now.

Wilstead is the next village and where the two [BERRINGTON]boys were born who died in the Great War [World War 1]. Joeph Parrish BERRINGTONs father was their great grand fathers brother]

I have put a small tree on line and some other links you may be interested in so will send you an e mail if that's OK?

Ps: I dont have Joseph P BERRINGTON's spouse on the tree I do have wives for his brothers : James [m Sarah CROOT] and Charles married Amelia DEAKIN]

I may be mistaken. I re-read your post and realized that I misinterptreted it the first time, there must be another Mary Berrington with a brother named Charles from Bedford. The Mary Berrington I'm referring to married John Thompson on April 15, 1845 and they came to the US in 1851. She did have a brother named Charles that was in Bedford though??

The Charles Berrington of Bedford was my great great great grandfather's (Joseph Parrish Berrington) brother. My great great grandfather's name was also Charles Berrington, so apparently named after his uncle, your great great great grandfather!

"Your" Charles Berrington was the son of John and Ann (Parrish) Berrington and my records show he was born in 1839 and died on Nov. 22, 1910. He had 10 siblings, but I only know the names of three: Joseph (my G G G grandfather), Emma (Berrington) Thompson and Mary (Berrington) Thompson.

John Berrington was the son of John (born 1770) and Elizabeth (Wiles) Berrington. He was born in 1800 and died on Sept. 30, 1883.

Ann was the daughter of James & Abigail Parrish from Cotton End. Ann was born on May 11, 1806 in Cotton End, married John Berrington on Dec. 24, 1822, and she lived her entire life (103 years) in Cardington, near Bedford, Bedfordshire. She had 10 children, one of which was my great, great, great grandfather, Joseph Parrish Berrington. He was born May 11, 1828, immigrated to the US (Cleveland,Ohio) in Dec. 1851 with his sister, Mary (Berrington) Thompson, and died on Jan. 16, 1916 in Clevland, Ohio.

Looking for marriage of John and Suzanna Berrington.They had 2 sons Samuel born 1817 and William born 1819 both christened at St Martins Birmingham Engand in 1821.

Thanks for the information. I realized I had Charles listed under Joseph's first wife, Mary Thompson, but I was missing William. Do you believe this is your William? If so, please email me privately. I can send you quite a bit of information about Joseph, including a photograph of him, and a photo of his mother as well.

I also have some Thompson information.

I just checked the info I got from the LDS site. In the 1880 Census of Cuyahoga Co., Ohio. Jos. & his wife, Margarethe, listed their children as follows; Chas., age 22, Wm., age 20,
Hattie, age 15, Samuel, age 12, John, age 10, Jessie, age 7, and Ella, age 4. From Peggy Ferrier, I learned that Margarethe was Jos. 2nd wife. All the above were listed as Berringtons.
