Hello Debbie!

So nice to hear from family :) So, if I have this figured out here, you are a great, great grand-daughter to Nellie Alice Lillian Berry too(?) I'm afraid my "branch" of the family tree here has been distant for the past years since we lost our Grandfather, James Knapp back in 1990. My grandmother (Charlotte Knapp) and a few aunts and uncles have attended a couple of the reunions but at the last one there were bad storms predicted so I don't think anybody on our side made it there.
I too remember Nellies long white hair & my grandma would braid it for her & wind it up on top of her head. It was sort of like her "Crown" lol! The pictures are fantastic aren't they? After my mother passed in 2009 I was able to salvage those old photos from her things, I especially love the reunion photograph. I know I'm in there somewhere but can't find myself (really hope I'm not the little girl in front with her dress hiked up around her knees showing everybody her panties hahaha!) Most of the other photos are captures off of a DVD video my grandmother had compiled from old 8mm movies. Also my older sister has more photos of Grandma Nellie she just hasn't scanned them yet so hopefully there will be more posted sometime soon. Nellies life just facinates me to think what a strong woman she was...and that there was an adopted sister named Phoebe I'd like to know the story behind that too. Well if you want to copy any of the photographs feel free, they're not great quality but better than nothing:) hope to hear more from you, thanks for responding!

Theresa Peterson

Hello,

I am a granddaughter of Nellie Alice Knapp and Bernard Eldred Love. I just came across your tree. I would love to talk to you.

My mother (Nellie Dagmar Love) who is a sister to Bernadeen, is also researching the Love/Knapp family. I see you do not have any other siblings in this line. There were 6 children total and our families are all still in WI.

Contact me as soon as you can. I can't wait to share.

I remember Mom's Grandma Nellie with her long white hair and braiding it on top of her head. I was amazed at seeing the family pictures.

Hope to talk to you soon,
Debbie Rhyner-Ruiz

I am asking for help again in locating any information on William (Alva) Berry and Sinthey (Cynthia?) Welch. I have searched for almost a year and I am still at square one. I know their birthdates, married date, children names, ect, but when it comes to finding anything personal about either one, like parents names, or where they are buried I have hit a brick wall, and so many good folks have tried to help. If there is any decendent of the Berry's in or around Hamilton who would be willing to help me, it would be so apprecited.Their son, William Chesterfield Berry,is buried at Hamilton, but I can not locate their graves anywhere. William (Alva) Berry b. about 1828 in Mississippi, died 1869-1900 Texas, Sinthry, Welch,Roberts,Berry b.1831 Louisiana,d. 1870 Texas. Any info will be appreciated Thank you.

I found this online:

Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed.,
1885, Butler Co.

CLARK T. PORTER, jailer and proprietor of the Farmer's House, Morgantown,
was born on the Big Bend of the Green River, five miles north of
Morgantown, May 22, 1822. There he was reared until the age of twelve,
when his parents removed to the north bank of the Green River, near
Wilson's Ferry, and later to the mouth of Indian Camp Creek. His first
wife was Adeline Harreld, to whom he was married in 1844. The fruit of
this union was three children: Mary Elizabeth, wife of Jasper C. Berry;
Buena Vista, the widow of Granville Hampton, and Nancy Helen, the wife
of Samuel Austin. Mr. Porter's second marriage was with Margaret Ellen
Austin, in September, 1858. To her there were born seven children, four
now living: Robert Benjamin, Ann Eliza, John C. and Margaret R. The
death of Mr. Porter's second wife occurred in 1878. His third wife was
Nancy C. Berry, the widow of Moses C. Berry. Her children by her former
husband are James William, Samuel Ridley, Virgil, Martha Jane, and Thomas
Newton. Mr. Porter's father was Benjamin Porter, and his mother was
Mary (Proctor) Porter; the former a native of Butler County and the
latter of Logan County. His grandfather was Col. John Porter, of
Virginia, a Revolutionary soldier, and one of the earliest settlers of
Butler County. Mr. Porter followed agriculture until September, 1882,
when he was elected jailer for the county of Butler, and removed to
Morgantown. December 1, 1883, he commenced keeping the hotel on the
corner of Main and Ohio Streets, known as the Farmer's Hotel. He and
his family are members of the Baptist Church, and he is known as a
gentleman of strict integrity.

Porter Harreld Berry Hampton Austin Proctor
=
Logan-KY VA

http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/butler/porter.ct.tx...

Jim - Great. Thank you for the information. So many things never seemed to fit. The age difference between the son of John & Jemima and Jane or Jenny Lee being one and the indication of at least 2 other women married to "Anthony Berry" - Elisabeth Thomas,______ Ward, Frances Stribling and of course Jane Lee. The Anthony I assumed was ours was christened 28 Feb 1749 so he would have been over 64 when he married 15 year-old Jane, making her his 3rd or 4th wife.

So, I need to find out who my Anthony was. Please let me know when you do come across that information about my elusive Anthony. Regards, Bill
I grew up at 21 Forest Street in Middleton. This house was one of the oldest in Middleton and as the oral history was told to me it was originally the Berry farm and that the Berry's were one of the original families in Middleton. The Berry's sold it to a doctor who had it for a while and then in turn sold it to my grandfather, Richard Fitzpatrick and his sister Margaret. It was a beautiful old historic home to grow up in. The oldest part of the house had a summer kitchen and bee hive oven. It should have been part of the town historical society but when they were setting that up my grandmother was battling cancer and didn't want to participate. Unfortunately, the house was demolished and the land subdivided to build McMansions. It was a sadness for my family. I'm sorry if this is long winded, but I don't know if the address/location and little I know would be helpful to you.

This is my understanding of this man and feedback is much appreciated:
His parents were Jemima Weatherall and John Berry of Culpeper Co, Va. He was baptized 28 Feb 1749. Anthony's 1st wife was Elisabeth Thomas. When he married 2nd(?) wife Jane Lee 20 Dec 1813 he was the father of a grown son, William, whose wife was Rachel Rowe. He also had a grandson, William Stribling Berry, named in his will. Anthony died 24 Aug 1817 in Orange Co., Va., where he farmed. His wife also died some time in that year after given birth to daughter Sarah Frances Berry.
I will be grateful for additions, changes or conments.
Wm Berry & Sarah Middleton.

I have some questions regarding Wm Berry & Sarah Middleton, everyone keeps assigning Hiram Berry b. 1784 in N.C d. 1889 in Boll. Co., MO. to this line, where is everyone getting this information from? According to earlier research Hiram's father was born in England, and came to America with 2 brothers shortly before the Revolution. Anne Williams McAllister who did a great deal of Lincoln Co., N.C research did not think that this family lined up with Hiram either. I am concerned that incorrect information may be floating around out there and people may just be assigning Hiram to this line out of convenience. Can anyone let me know if actual proof (evidence) other than assumption, assigns Hiram Berry to this family. I appreciate any replies or assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

I was searching for some info on Thomas Berry, and stumbled on this post. Alison, I didn't know that you had been on here looking for info on them.

To answer your question Wanda, Thomas Passon Berry lived in Orange County, NC. He was married 3 times. The first time to a Sarah Lunsford, and he did have at least 3 children from this marriage that I have found, but there could have been more. After his first wife died, he remarried to Lucy Brown and had I believe 5 more children. He was very old at the time that he had the last 5 children, if memory serves me correctly, he was 72 when his last child was born. I know that he was 66 years old when my great grandmother, Emily Etta Berry, was born. I would love to know what other information you might have on him, to see if this is indeed the same Thomas Berry.

I realize you commented on this in 2001, hope you are still looking at this!

Thanks

John Michel Berry & Catrine Thompson-Berry

I am searching for info related to John Michel Berry born in Ireland apx 1823. He worked on the rail road, married Catrine Thompson before 1843. She was born in Ireland apx 1820. I haven't been able to determine when they emigrated to the US or thru which port of entry, nor if they were married before or after emigration. Their common surname has also made it difficult. They settled in Tippecanoe Cty, Indiana & Bloomington, Indiana during the 1860-70's. I can't find them before or after those census'. I have located their children but they are not with any of the children.
