I have over 200 names in GEDCOM relating only to BERTIE males and marriages. I have not found a common ancestor; ever hopeful. I am related from David BERTIE b abt 1700 and Elizabeth KNIGHT b abt 1705 Edzell who married on 13 July 1728.
I would be pleased to help in the hope of finding more.

Bertie family in Montrose, Scotland

I am researching the family of my gggrandmother Margaret Moir Bertie born in Montrose, Angus in 1860 & married John Warren in 1885 in Montrose. Margaret was the daughter of James Bertie and Mary Ann Allan who I think married in 1856 in Montrose. Think James' parents were James Bertie and Helen Skene but I am unsure. Any help would be gratefully received!

Hi, not sure I posted my replies to Denis & Helen correctly so thought I'd better start a new thread.
William & Jane were my gt gt gt grandparents. Their daughter Mary (spelt Burtey on marriage cert to Daniel McCann in 1847)was my gt gt grandmother & Daniel & Mary's daughter Anne was my gt grandmother who married William Moorcroft. They had a daughter Annie who married William Scully, Annie & William were my grandparents. Daniel is mistranscribed on the 1851 census as Dane Macken, Mary's sister Jane is living with them at the time.
Hope to hear from Denis or Helen as I've tried contact before without success.

Best wishes,

Tracey.

Bertie Landmark??

Bertie List......I have a question......last summer, my husband
and I were in Bertie Co. around the Kelford area looking for
cemeteries and other known family sites in our genealogy
search....somewhere that day we came into a little old
crossroads area and threre was a full sized stuffed Rhinoceros mounted over a doorway in one of the old brick
buildings at that crossroads area.....we were out of film and
didn't get a picture.....we were also in Hertford, Gates and
parts of Halifx and Northampton counties that day.....Does
anyone on the list recall this landmark???? We don't
remember which county it was in.....we Just thought we would inquire as we have wondered several times which
county we were in when we came across this unique
stuffed animal!! Thank's for reading this.....
Carl & Peggy in Calif
