Oh and Telisfor who died in 1906 is my GG grandfather. He died of TB. His son was Ernest my Ggrandfather. So I am thinking that Tellisfor in Canada is the same Telisfore in Ludington. Just can't prove it yet.

Yes that is the connection I am trying to find. Telisfore in Ludington Michigan was my gg Grandfather. I am trying to figure out who his father is difinitively. My tree on Anbcestry is: House/Kaufman Family Tree. I just can't find that one connection that proves I have the right family in Canada. I have to tell you though, the pictures of Gaspard (the father of Tellesfore Bertrand in Canada) looks alot like my Great Grandfather did (Ernest Bertrand)> the years are right but I just can't prove that Gaspard is his father.

I see Bertrand single listed in a household with Lillian Poirier, her father Charles, her sister Matilda, Matilda's spouse David Baker, they are all from Canada. Is Lillian his future wife? It seems possible that all these Canadians knew one another in Canada. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MWST-5SK

There is a death at Ludington, Mason County, Michigan 7 August 1906, age 55, of Telesfor Bertran Jr, married man. If the same person, father could be Telephore Bertrand Sr.

I found his marriage certificate but it doesn't ask for the name of parents. It's a record of marriages in Manistee for 1881. It just says he was born in Canada. Is there possibly an actual marriage certificate that might have this information. If so, where do I get a copy of that? Also on his death certificate it doesn't list parents either, only that he was born in Canada. I have found the 1951 and 1861 census for a Tellisfore Bertrand who I believe is him but I have no proof of it. I have a baptism record for Tellisofore in Canada as well. I still can't prove it is the one in the US. I have then found 1880 and 1900 in the US who is my relative. Is there any place else he (my relative) might have listed his parents? I can't locate any Naturalization information. Was everyone required to fill out these papers after living in the states for a certain period of time? His parents are not listed on his death certificate either. Thanks for any help you may offer.

Hi, You won't find any immigration record from Canada to Michigan in 1871, although you may find a US Naturalization record where Telesphore Bertrand settled in Michigan. As for identifying the man, you need to look at his marriage record to see who he said were his parents on the marriage act. That is the likely first step. Next, you can look for him within the family of origin in the census of Canada 1871, 1861, 1851. This process ought to take you to the parish of origin in Quebec or Ontario. -Aldo

I am having a difficult time finding a difinitive link between my GG Grandfather, Tellisfor Bertrand who moved to Michigan in 1871 from Canada. He worked as a fireman on a ship in Manistee. How can I locate his immigration records? I can't find them on Ancestry. Also how do I locate his parents. I haven't been able to do this either even though I have a French translator looking at church records from Canada found on Ancestry. His death certificate said unknown. I have been stuck for two years. Please any help would be great appreciated.

I'm trying to find information on the various Bertrand families who lived in Cleveland County, Oklahoma Territory back in the 1890s and early 1900s. There are several of them who were awarded allotments, and who also paid taxes in the Buckhead area in the southern portion of this county.

Receiving land allotments and paying taxes were:
L. J. Bertrand
Amelia E. Bertrand
Bernard B. Bertrand
Mary J. Bertrand
Solomon Bertrand
Francis F. Bertrand

If you can help me with info on any of these folks, I'd be most grateful.

Mae Cox in Oklahoma
The DaSylvas, I believe, were originally from Portugal. Does anyone know anything about the family and what kind of business the original families were in? By the way, my great grandfather was Julius Trudeau, son of Alfred and Philomene Bertrand. Julius was born in Canada, moved to Illinois and died in Indiana. Signed, Margie

My tree is posted in the Public Member Tree section, if you can access that. It is called Tangled Roots and there is more information there.

Rosanna was the youngest of 4 daughters and 6th child of Jean Baptiste Bertrand and his wife. There are stories in several local histories about this man. He was one of the "French Five Hundred" who came over from France to settle in the US.

Confusion arose over Travis's last name because of difficulty reading the name in the marriage record and one source recorded it as Hurd but census records show different spellings of what is believed to be Herrell. They were married September 3, 1851 in Scioto County, Ohio.

I am descended from the eldest son, John Baptiste Bertrand Jr., and have been gathering info on the family and descendants for many years. Would love to connect with you and get more info.

HiLaura,

Thanks for the update. By any chance did you ever make contact with Benjamin Bertrand who also has a post here? He is definately a relative of mine. His grandfather and my grandmother are brother and sister. I tried to find him on Facebook and LinkedIn but no luck. I would love to touch base with him but I'm not sure if he'll get the update from these boards.

Any info you have would be great.

LeeAnn
Hi LeeAnn,

I think you are on the right track, but not positive. If it is Edward (Peter) Bertrand- his parents were Jacob and Marie(Fidler) Bertrand. They came from Boeven, Luxembourg in 1857.

I could be missing a generation or two if this is not the right Edward.

I will look into it a little more.

Laura

Hi Laura,

I know I'm about 10 years late but my grandmother was a Bertrand from Sleepy Eye and she was of Luxembourg decent. I know that my great-grandfather's name was Edward and I think my great-grandmother's name was Anna. The lived to be well over 100. My grandmother was the oldest of 11 kids and I think all but the youngest are now all deceased.

My grandmother, Florence Bertrand eventually married William A. Carroll and moved to Chicago where I live.

If you think I'm on the track you are looking for or if you have more information for me, I'd love to hear from you.

Please reply.

LeeAnn Wilczynski
Gaspard Bertrand m Zoe Ranger-Burk, QC

My youngest daughter began me on this quest to research our family history. I am looking for information on Gaspard Bertrand, husband of Zoe Ranger Burk. He was the father of Seraphine Bertrand (who was the husband of Rosanna Girard). Seraphines birth is recorded as May 30, 1859. I'm uncertain of an exact location, other than perhaps Quebec. Any info that would help me on my search would be GREATLY appreciated! I am interested in tracking down our roots & if at all possible, dates of immigration to North America.

MLPotter@003@aol.com
