HI Ben,
The Besancon's are my cousins related to me by my mother's sister Helen Squires who married Donald Besancon of Chester.Donald was the son of Eugene They had 5 children and 2 have died there is JoAnn Fisher Besancon Dorothy LaBombard Besancon and Ronald Besancon. Donald and David are the ones who died. Donald died frm Huntinton's Disease which is hereditary but I think it is on his mother's side the Monroe, Squires line. I am still trying to trace it. You can find the tree on Ancestry The Young Fanily tree or you can get in touch with me at tnoyes12@russellma.net for more info dates etc.
Tina

Hi all. My great grandmother was Mary Besancon (B: 1898 in Becket, D: 1993) and she married Joseph Salvini from Chester. Mary's mother was Felicie Besancon (B:1857 in France). Felicie was married to Peter Besancon? and they also had a son, Eugene.

I'd love to connect the dots a little more and learn about how they came to settle in Becket. Also would like to understand where they were from in France.

Thanks!

-Ben

Do you know if there is a connection to an Agathe/Agetha Besancon? She married Augustin/Augustus Brossard around 1830. I aske because I see you mention a great aunt named Rosalie & Agathe & Augustus named one of their daughters Eugenie Rosalie. I realize it may be a popular name of the time but I thought maybe (fingers crossed lol) there was a family connection.

I hear that Harold (Buzz) Besancon which is my grandfather is now in the hospital because he is really sick. I think he may have cancer. He had only one child with my grandmother (which is my dad) and his name is David or Dave Besancon. He had Two kids with my mom, Andria and Paul Besancon. I will ask my grandma more about the Besancon's in Chester. There is a grand aunt in Boston I think. Her name is Rosalie.

That would be really interesting. I know that Agatha & Augustus moved from Syracuse to Berkshire, MA around 1833 and were there until about 1844 then they went to Westfield, MA before coming to WI in the early 1850s. It always amazes me how much & how far people traveled in that era but I suppose it is no big deal after coming to the US from Switzerland & France!

I am not sure why the Besancon's came to Becket, there was granite mining there and also train workers .
It is in the Berkshires and there were many wo worked for the railroad. It is not that far from upper NY state. My uncle Donald worked for the railroad and lived in Chester which is the next town to Becket. I'll try and find some info when they immigrated.
Tina

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Sadly, this isn't the family connection I was hoping for -- unless they were cousins. Agatha was born in 1806/7 in France. I think her parents were probably Anthony/Antoine & Frances/Francoise who came to the US in 1827. A passenger list shows A & F with 7 children at that point: James, Agath, Francism Frank, August, Joseph & James. I find them again in 1850 with just Joseph & a younger brother, Lewis. Agatha md. Augustus Brossard & their oldest child was born in July 1831. Augustus arrived in NY in 1829 so they were married in that 2 year time frame. They moved through NY, MA, WI & MN during their life together. Augustus' brother, John, was in W. Monroe, Oswego Co., NY in the 1850 census but he ended up in WI too. I think the brothers stayed together after arriving in the US and that that is how Agatha & Augustus met.
Thanks again for getting back to me.
Best of luck to you in your research!

Oct.8, 1880 in Becket, Ma. d Jan.4, 1954 I do not have a death date for Eugene. He also had a bro
ther Peter who came to Becket.
Tina

My mother bought a box of genealogical things at a flea market in San Diego, CA and there turned out to be quite a few things written by Clara amongst them. Evidently it consists of things she submitted to a local Detroit newspaper, along with some small pamphlets she must have had printed, and then there was some personal letters to family and friends. Along with that there was more things that dealt with the following names: Woodbridge, Harlakenden, Haynes, Wyllys, Dudley, Trumbull, Hubbard, Bell, Stiles, Whiting, Coit, Witherell and Hochgraef. If any of this is familiar to anyone and you are interested in the paperwork please e-mail me.

Also we noticed that a bunch of people lived with them not by the name of Besancon? Does anyone possibly know why that would be? Thanks for your help
