Re: Ella E Besanko Adair Co. Missouri

I have all kinds of information on your family. Ella Edith Besanko's( spelled many different ways) parents were William John Besanko & Emma J.Potter (Emmie)
William was B/chr about 1 Jun 1853 also listed as 1 June 1861( may be a transcription error) census has his birthplace as Virginia & another time Ohio. His occupation was farmer.
There is some question as to if he married Mary E Potter 1st she was born 1859 & died 1877.
He then married her sister Emma 25 apr 1880 ar Bear Creek, Adair Co., MO
Emma was born abt 1862 in Polk Twp, Adair Co., MO
She was the daughter of James Peter Potter.

I received a memo several years ago that was copied out of the Potter Bible. Mary is listed in this bible married to
Besanks
Ella Edith Besanko is listed born 1881

William John married a 3rd time to Ivy Nora Sallade on 20 apr 1909.

William is listed in the 1900 census as Widowed, so Emma has died some time between 1881 & 1900. By 1910 Ella is married to Seth Neff.

I have this family back tothe 1600's

I have copy of census records, marriage cert. on this Besanko family

Young Besanco has been ill for many months, and can only walk by the aid of crutches. When Dixon attacked Besanco his wife attacked him, and times were quite lively for a while. An elder brother of Besanco's who was at work in the mine came out and Dixon drew a gun on him and fired, but it went off in the air. Alec. had two fingers broken and was otherwise bruised. A messenger came here at once for a doctor and an officer. Cause, whisky and the d--l.

Hi

Info on Besanko family, they are from Viking stock (Nordic) most are blond, blue/green/grey eyes and stocky. I dont know any info on those you asked about I can tell you about Cyril Moyle Besanko , a highly decorated soldier in WW2, he survived Gallopili & the Somme. you can
also read the war diary of the 4th Battalion, particularly around the dates he received honours for: http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/war_diaries/first_world_war.... He is mentioned in the Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918 on p.533 here: http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/histories/3/chapters/18.pdf.

Hey....

I'm not sure if anyone can help me tracing back some of my family history or not?? I have found relatives back on my mothers side of the family with the surname 'Besanka' are these people the same that you speak of??
My tree as it looks at the moment shows Sarah Ann Besanka 1826 who married James Stone. So far I have peiced together that Sarahs parents were John Besanka 1801, who married a Mary. these connections were made using logical guesses but they seem to fit. Does anyone know of these people or can anyone offer any more information that might help me track where they came from and perhaps why?
Many thanks
Alex Taylor :)

But I was told that the Halverson's that homesteaded across from the Ole Olson homestead in Glasco, KS were distant relatives but I never met them when I was little.
I also saw Leve's name listed as Liv, I wrote to my grandmother once and she told me her name was Leve.

Just saw the Bosanko name today in the Bennington Twp, Kansas census. Am told there were other brothers too - Ole, Halsteen, and Tollev - also who came to Dodgeville, along with their parents. I know nothing about where the brothers went. Have done any research in this area?

My father's parents were Charles and Emma Besanko who, I believe, may have migrated from the UK to the USA sometime in the early 20th Century. My father's brothers were Richard and David, both still living in the USA.

Bruce

Samuel Bosanko, Sr and Mary (unknown) were my gt gt grandparents. Their first child John A. Bosanko**Bosanco (not sure if it was changed then) and Lucy were my gt grandparents. Their 7th child Theodore Earl Bosanco is my grandfather and Theodore Earl Bosanco, Jr is my father. Phew! Everyone has been such a big help. My mom's side is VERY into genealogy and so I wanted to find out about my dad's side. It's been more successful than I thought it would be! It can be confusing because in a lot of the families, they have more than one child with the same name. My dad passed away December 30, 2001. I thought it would be nice to look under his family. :) Hope to stay in touch!!

They had 13 children the oldest being my greatgrand father, Ole Gilbert Olson who had a younger sister, Anna Olson- Bosanka. Ole went to KS around 1870 and homesteaded.
Donna, Nice to hear from you!! I would love to share information I have about the Olson's. I also have some photographs of some of the Olson children. Gilbert Olson was born near Bergan, Norway. His mother died when he was very young and he was raised by his mother's brother. When he turned 18 he immigrated to the US and took the name of Olson but his mother's maiden name was Tolison. Leve Halverson was also born in Norway. Ole Gilbert Olson settled in Glasco, KS in 1872 and married Catherine Konath. They had 6 children, one was my grandmother, Minnie Olson- Wealand. I remember visiting Bennington, KS as a child and seeing the Olson gravestones now I know where they came from. Gilbert and Leve had 13 children. Ole Gilbert, Anna, Mary, Oliver, Gilbert, Thomas, Lena Olson-Wilson, Carrie Olson-Kremis, Lewis, Eric, and Elizabeth Olson-Best.

Kay

HI KAY, GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU.
GILBERT OLSON AND LEVE WERE MY GREAT GREATGRANDPARENTS, ALSO. ANNA IS MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER. SHE MARRIED WILLIAM BOSANKO IN DODGEVILLE, WI. DECEMBER 24, 1863. SHE CAME FROM A FAMILY OF MANY CHILDREN. I KNOW SHE HAD A BROTHER GILBERT AND ANOTHER BROTHER, OLIVER, WHO NEVER MARRIED AND LIVED WITH HER IN SOME CENSUS'. SHE AND WILLIAM WENT TO BENNINGTON, OTTAWA CO., KS. AND HAD 8 CHILDREN (7 GIRLS AND 1 BOY). MY GRANDMOTHER, OLIVIA JANE, WAS THE OLDEST. SHE MARRIED CHARLES JOHNSON IN KANSAS AND THEY LIVED IN SEVERAL PLACES IN KANSAS. HE WORKED FOR THE RAILROAD. WILLIAM DIED ON DECEMBER 29, 1899 IN OTTAWA, AND ANNA IS LISTED AS A WIDOW IN THE 1900, 1910 AND 1920 CENSUS. IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE COUSINS. I DIDN'T KNOW THE NAME OF GILBERT'S WIFE, AS I COULDN'T READ IT IN THE CENSUS,(I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE "LUCY") AND I DIDN'T KNOW HER MAIDEN NAME. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE GUSTAVISON AS I HAVE SOME PICTURES WITH THE NAME ON THE BACK.
SAMUEL BOSANCO COULD BE A BROTHER TO WILLIAM, BORN 1839 TO SAMUEL AND BRIDGET BOSANKO IN CORNWALL, ENGLAND. WILLIAM MARRIED ANNA OLSON, IN DODGEVILLE, WISCONSIN IN 1863. THEIR DAUGHTER OLIVIA JANE BOSANKO IS MY GRANDMOTHER. SHE WAS BORN IN 1866. THEY MOVED TO BENNINGTON, KANSAS, WHERE MY GRANDPARENTS WERE MARRIED. MY GRANDFATHER'S NAME IS CHARLES JOHNSON. I HAVE INFORMATION ON THE OLSON, ARTHUR AND OTHER SURNAMES FROM KANSAS. ALSO, I HAVE AN OLD ALBUM GIVEN TO ME BY MY AUNT WITH MANY PICTURES I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY. WOULD LOVE TO EXCHANGE ANY INFORMATION YOU HAVE. WE ARE PROBABLY COUSINS.
