Hi,

I am trying to locate any members of the following Betts family.

Patrick Edward Betts born 1923 in Parramatta or his son Peter Brian Betts born 1951 in Sydney.

Patricks parents were Phillip Bernard Betts & Amy Veronica Clear. Patricks wife was Olive Cassin.

Patrick was a soldier in WW11 and he died in 1977.

Peter was in the Navy until 1970.

I am trying to find a marriage between Jabez Betts and Caroline Rickwood (born 1869 Shoreham Kent)I have found a marriage between her and GEORGE Betts in 1892 in Chapel en le Frith, but on ordering a marriage cert for her son, also called George who was my grandfather, his father's name is given as Jabez not George!!
I have been unable to find George senior on the 1901 census return. Could he have died and Caroline remarried to another Betts? Does this sound likely - could Jabez be my grandfather's stepfather? my research shows that Caroline is definetely my great grandmother everything else fits except for Jabez! Does anyone have any info?

From the obituary of the last surviving child (Henry) they had 12 children- this is also collaborated in the book Genealogy of the Descendants of Banfield Capron, from A.D. 1660 to A.D. Joanna was the daughter of Simeon Kilburn- b 26 Apr 1766 Bellingham, Massachusetts, died 10 May 1817 Chittenden, VT who married Lucy Aldrich 01 Mar 1790 in Mendon, MA, Lucy was b 27 Feb 1769 in Cumberland, Rhode Island and died 23 Jan 1854 Millville, Massachusetts. Joanna was one of 9 children, 7 girls and 2 boys.

I am interested on information on Harley Ray Betts and Ethel Adelia Norman, married Sept 26,1916. Ethel's father was John Wilcas Norman and he married Edith H Kidd on January 20, 1898. Ethel was their only daughter. Ethel was born in Isabella County Michigan on Nov. 7, 1898. Ethel married Harley Ray Betts on Sept 26, 1916 and they had 9 children, one of which was my father. Can anyone help me with family history/tree information about descendants or ascendants of the following?

Josiah Allen Betts, born 1807 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia & Martha Marsden, born 6 May 1811, same location, died 1937. Josiah & Martha married in 1839 at St. John's, Parramatta, New South Wales.

Patrick Betts & Margaret, who had a daughter Louisa Elizabeth Betts, died 1987.

Thomas Betts & Mary Ann Watts, who married on 23 July, 1875 at Iron Bark Hill, Sherwood, Australia. They had a daughter Mary Jane 1853-1923

As I research my families widely, both for my own family tree purposes and as a gift to friends and their families, I would really appreciate any family tree and relevant research copies from anyone in any country who is researching the BETTS name, or perhaps some leads to already existing websites where this type of information can be found.

Today would have benn my father's 70th birthday. He passed 19 years ago this coming Dec.. I am still with the same road block as I was back then so here goes again. Maybe someone new has come to the board that might be able to help or at least point me in a direction I may have missed.

William Stafford BETTS born 11 March 1938 Seattlle, King, WA. - died 6 Dec 1989 Las Cruces, Don Ana, New Mexico. His birth certificate says his father was William Henry BETTS age 21 (@ my dad's birth) , birthplace Iowa and that he was an unemployed salesamn. My dad was born at King Co. Hosp. My grandmother's residence was 1412 21st Ave. So.

In his baby book William Henry BETTS' parents are listed as Mary Ann BETTS and William Clark BETTS.

Freeman sisters married Samuel D. Betts & Frances M. Betts in AR

Amy Ann (or Ava) Freeman (born 1839 AL) married Samuel D. BETTS in 1859 in Union County, Arkansas, and Amy's sister Amanda Freeman (born 1849 AR) married Frances M. BETTS in 1872. The Freeman girls parents were James Freeman (age 43, farmer, born SC) and Frances (age 34, born VA). They came to Union County, Arkansas about 1843 from Autuaga County (or Bibb County), Alabama.

Another sister of these Freeman girls was Mary Jane Freeman (born 1837 AL), who was my great-grandmother. She married Daniel Jefferson Heldebrand / Hildebrand as his second wife.

His name is David Ronald Betts, his mother Dorothy Young and father Ronald Betts (middle name unknown if any), there are conflicting stories as to if he was born in Gt. Dunmow England or in Canada, although whereabouts unknown. David Ronald Betts has an older sister called Dawn (conflict with birth place also) and a younger sister called Denise. Updating "finding my ancestors", I have gathered some information. My Grandfathers name was Charles Harrison Betts and my Grandmothers name is Ethel Kuhn. My grandmother currently lives in Oak Hill, Ohio. My fathers name was Jack Melvin Betts, who also lived in Oak Hill.

Hope someone has information on Almira Betts (BORN 1841 - DIED 1901 - Ohio). She was daughter of Catherine McCafferty Betts(Birth/death dates-location unknown). and unknown father (Betts). She married George Hartman Rowland (BORN 1836 -DIED 1901)in 1866 in Madison (County or Town??) and had son Neal Clark Rowland born 1867, and Osee Katherine (Kate), born 1883. After marriage Almira and George lived primarily in Columbus, OH,. both died there. No records seem to exist of Almira or George, even though he was a successful builder/architect and even served as a (temporary/interim) warden of the Ohio Penetentiary for a time around 1870/80. Would really like to know about George's parents and more on Almira.

William BETTS was a British soldier for 25? years. William BETTS died May 20, 1862 in Komoka, Ontario, Canada. Anna (WOODMAN) BETTS died March 24, 1880 in Komoka, Ontario, Canada.

They had 13 children:

1. George William BETTS
2. Sarah (Sally)
3. Thomas (Tom)
4. William (born in England?)
5. Anna
6. Henry (Harry)
7. Maria
8. Charles (he was killed)
9. Hannah (died in England)
10. Fred

12. Un-named child (died in infancy)

George William BETTS (b. approx. 1821 in Birmingham, England)
married Martha (Entwistle) BETTS (b. in Lancashire, England)

George William BETTS died in Denison, Grayson County, Texas on December 31, 1882. Martha, his wife, died on the same day also in Denison.

They had 8 children:

Sarah Ann BETTS married John TAYLOR of Buffalo, New York and he died about 1878. Then she married John MCCANCE of St. Thomas and they had 12 children.

Wow that's a lot to type out. Well hopefully someone can help me out here. My toughest thing is the TEXAS Bett's George and Martha and why they died on the same day. Well actually it's all tough because this is basically all I know of these people and I never found this out myself it was given to me.

I have an original postcard photograph of the wedding of “Roy W. Betts of Westfield, Iowa, and wife – November, 1914”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members.

Westfield is in Plymouth Co., IA, and I found Roy in the 1915 Iowa census, age 31, married to wife Alberta. In Sep 1918, he registered for the draft from Billings (Yellowstone Co.) MT, listing DOB 22 Feb 1884, and wife Alberta. 1920 census, still lived in Blue Creek, MT, but by 1930, lived with family in Polk Co., OR. CA death index shows he died Oct 1972 in San Bernadino.

Betts/Bettes/Bettys Kent or Suffolk to CT - Need Input

I just recently came into some genealogy work my great aunt had conducted before her death in 1969 regarding our Betts heritage. Work I had previously tied into on the internet indicated my line went back to Robert Bettes, born 1508 in Kent, England. "Aunt Helen"'s work indicates our line goes back to John Bettys, born mid-1400s in Suffolk, England.

Both lines agree from current back to Thomas Betts. One line shows Thomas as being born 1615 in West Peckham, Kent, England; the other shows Thomas as being born 1618, presumably in Suffolk.

Here's the line both agree on, and I would appreciate your input on who came before these (starting most recent):

Dr. James W. Manning;
Sarah Betts (1839 Nova Scotia -1919 New Brunswick) m. Edward Manning;

When I asked a cousin of Mary Betts about the burial place of Craven Betts and Elizabeth Colby, it was related to me that it had been a family tradition to be cremated and have the ashes scattered at sea. There is no burial place, therefore, for Craven or Elizabeth, who was also the daughter of a sea captain. And those having difficulty finding a Betts relative's burial place, at least in this line, may be having trouble for this very reason. Thought this might be of help to someone.

The 1910 and 1920 Nebraska State Census records show her living with her parents in Magnet, Cedar Co, NE, and Hartington, Cedar Co, NE.
In 1930 still living in Hartington, Cedar Co, NE with her first husband: William M Anderson. She had a son whose name was Melvin Anderson.

She was then remarried to Tommie Morehouse. The name Arthur is shown on the obituary for Lucille as being the widower.
It is believed that Tommie's real name was Arthur (Tom, Thomas) Morehouse.

Would like to hear from anyone who may have connections to this family.

Hannah married Jacob Wilkins by license in New York state in 1862. I have had no luck connecting her with any other Bettses although those of Newtown, Long Island, look promising. Nor have I found Jacob's antecedants before he married in 1762 and had a brass foundary business on Broad Street in NYC by at least 1766. They named their first three children John, Jacob, and Ann. Then Hannah died.

Byron Betts, who ignored bankers and built a successful theme park and water-amusement center in Federal Way, is dead at 77.

Mr. Betts died last Tuesday (Oct. 7) at his home in the Redondo area.

Bankers were skeptical when he and his wife opened Enchanted Village Family Entertainment Park in 1977 on 12 acres east of Interstate 5.

Mr. Betts followed with Wild Waves Water Park in 1984.

His father, Wes, owned and ran a vintage carousel in the 1920s and '30s, first in Redondo and later at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

Byron Betts moved the ride to the Enchanted Village.

He sold the two neighboring operations to real-estate investors for $8 million in 1992.

The businesses, which were sold again three years ago to Six Flags for $19.3 million, now draw about 500,000 visitors a year.

Ellis (Barbara) Grist of Woodhull, NY; 11 children; 35 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Glen was predeceased by his son Donald Betts, and by his great granddaughter, Danielle Swanson.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 pm at the Curtis Baptist Bible Church on Tannery Road in Curtis, NY where funeral service will follow calling hours at 4pm with the Reverends Dale Ingraham, Theodore Brennan, and Ellis Grist officiating.

Charles BETTS of St Martins, Northampton married Jane Meggisson in Helmsley, North Yorks in 1749. By the 19C there were a large number of BETTS in Helmsley, mainly working as Tailors.

By 1901 only a handful were left.

Does any one have any information on Lt. Col. William H. Betts of the 13th Alabama, Confederate States? He was born in Alabama circa 1839 (parents unknown to me) and died in Virginia in 1884. He was apparently buried in Opelika in Lee County, Alabama. After the Civil War he was a Scalawag and "notorious professional gambler." His wife's name was Mary.

There is a Mary Theodocia Betts who was born in Ohio in about 1842. On Mar. 1, 1857 she married Edward D. Barker in Hastings, Minnesota. I'm trying to find where in Ohio Mary came from and who her parents were. I did find a Mary Betts age 7, daughter of Samuel Betts (b. abt. 1819), in Hopewell, Seneca, Ohio in the 1850 U.S. Census. GEORGE SEYMOUR BETTS: BannerTwp; died Wed at his home. Death was due to bladder trouble from which MrBetts suffered for several years. GS Betts was born 2 Mar 1841 in MercerCnty PA. When about 12yrs of age he removed with his parents to WI & in the fall of 1861 came to IL settling in BannerTwp. Here in the spring of 1862 he married Miss Isobel Prior & about a year later they returned to WI residing there 2yrs after which they returned to FultonCnty, settling on Duck Island. They resided there 2yrs & later on the WH Smith farm in BannerTwp until 11yrs ago when MrBetts purchased the farm where his death occurred. MrsBetts died in 1886 leaving 5 children-of these 4 are living: John Betts-Dunfermline; GeorgeS Jr-BannerTwp; FredL-Peoria & WilliamH-DesMoines IA; one dau is dead. In 1889 MrBetts married Miss Annie Hughes & she with 4 children also survive. The children are: Lucy, Elizabeth, Clara & Wealthy-all reside at the parental home. Two bros of MrBetts: John & Lewis Betts are residents of OmahaNE; 3 sis are living; 1 bro & 2 sis are dead. The funeral will be held Fri at Utica Church & interment will be in Walnut Cem.

I'm trying to find out about my great grandma Anna (Or Ann, Anne?) Little. I know a little but not enough to trace her lineage.

I do know....She was born around the turn of the century (1800-1900) in the Sacramento area.
Her half brother is William Walter Ralph Betts, born in CA about 1899.
She married Eric Morley Ketley in about 1920 (give or take ten years)
She died in the Long Beach, CA area around 1985-1995.

She had a son about 1920-1930, Eric George Ketley, middle name after "my daddy, Little by adoption".

She is somehow, therefore, related by marriage, blood, or adoption to the following surnames and people:
Maude Scott
George Little
Walter (William) Betts
Clara Betts (married Burdick)

I'd LOVE to know Anna Littles full name, birth date and place, birth parents, and adopted or step parents? And how she is half-sister to William Walter. Plus anything about the lineage of George Little and Maude Scott and anyone else related to her.

Both born in KY, married in Scioto Cy. 1859. Had two children: William 1865-1931 who married Sarah Jane Goody in 1885, and Susan (b. 1862). William and Sarah Jane Goody Betts had at least 8 children: Emma, Daniel, Lewis, Pearl, John, Harrison, James, and William Arthur. Looking for cousins!

My Ann Betts, b abt. 1775, married Miles Lewis in VA. Her parents were Enoch Betts and Ann Humphrey, b in PA. I've seen pedigrees on Enoch back to Stephen, Thomas, Thomas, and the immigrant Richard of Long Island. But dates differ, and different sources stop the line at different points.

The posts here on Richard are 5 years old, so if anyone has the genealogy that can finally document Enoch's lineage I'd appreciate the info.

William BETTS and wife Leila HAMLET

I would like to know more about William Betts who married Leila Hamlet. Where was he born? Who were his parents?

He had at least three duaghters:
1) Rosa Lee Betts who died in childhood in Brimingham, AL
2) Leila B. Betts (1897-1989) who married Frank Mankin
3) Sarah Haskell Betts (1892-1984) married my uncle Rev. Nathan Hubert Abernethy (in 1912), a native of Chambers Co. AL, who served as District Superintendant of the Jasper District of The Methodist Church (North Alabama Conference) at the time of his death in 1950. I think Sarah worked at the Fairfield Public Library in Jefferson Co. AL in the 1960's. She spent her latter years in a nursing home in Texas, and was buried beside her husband at Oakhill Cemetery in Jasper (Walker Co.) AL.

Where are William Betts and wife Leila Hamlet buried?

He was born March 2, 1841, in that State, emigrated to Wisconsin and in 1872 to this county; in 1865 married Mrs. Isabel (Prior) Barlow, born in Muskingum County in 1841.
