Hello, does anyone have information for Ann BEVERIDGE please, b c1749. I dont her parents names or birth or marriage.
Ann married Alexander HARLEY c1768 a weaver in Kinross.
Alexander was born near Balado Easter 20 Feb 1736/37, son of Alexander Harley & Catherine Harley.
They had 9 Harley children
Alexander 1769
Marion c1770
Unnamed 1771
James 1773
Robert 1775
John 1777
Christian 1779
Andrew 1782
Archibald 1784.
Ann Beveridge died 4 May 1785, 3 days after Archibald was born...."To mortcloth at the funeral of Ann Beveridge spouse of Alex. Harley weaver in Kinross. 4/-"
I would appreciate any help please.
If someone has a link to a map that shows Balado Easter in Kinross that would be very helpful please.

Maggie (Margaret) M Beveridge Kane

I am looking for information on Maggie M Beveridge who
who came from Clackmannanshire, Scotland in 1891. She married Bernard J. Kane in 1894. She died April 22 1917 and is burried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA.
Her birth date is December 3rd. There is some confusion about birth year. It is either 1871, 1872, or 1876.
She had six children: George, Beatrice, Florence, Bernard, Helen (Nellie), and Minnie (Marie). She lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after moving here from Scotland.
If anyone has information about Maggie's parents or siblings it would be greatly appreciated?? I haven't been able to verify find her family in Clackmannonshire. Thanks for your help.

Hello, Thank you for your reply. I have a William Beveridge whose parents where a Robert and Jane. May I ask where "proudfoot" came into the name. I live in the US and it sounds like an American Indian name. I haven't ordered Jane's birth certificate but I could. I was under the impression that they were both born in Scotland. My grandfather is a William Beveridge and when I was researching his middle name I contacted that family and was told a sad story that one of the William Beveridge's had stolen money from his grandmother. The money was stolen and he fled to the US during the Gold Rush. The story continued as such...he went to the US to pursue the riches of the Gold Rush, became very wealthy and in the end was killed for his money. This is an oral story that has been past down in their family. The money came from a mining accident that killed the grandmother's husband (blood money).

After speaking with a few family members I was told that the grandmother gave money to her grandchildren but not all of them ...so there could have been jealously involved in twisting this story.

Could I see your tree, it may help me which would in turn help you.

FYI, Leonard Roland Beveridge was born in Little Falls, MN in 1910. His parents were William Beveridge and Rose Ann (Gaboury) Beveridge. William was born in Minnesota and Rose Ann Gaboury was born in Massachusetts. Diana Smith in Arizona has done extensive resarch as did deceased Mary Ann (Beveridge) Barclay.

My grandfather William Branders Beveridge migrated to Australia from Scotland. His brother Peter also migrated there and I believe others from the family. Peter however, moved back to Scotland and lived out his life there.

I have a Jane Beveridge born: 1883, a Robert B. born: 1885-1924, and a George B. born: 1891...along with several other siblings who were the children of Peter Oran Beveridge, born: 1850 in Airdrie, Lanarkshire; death: Jan. 12, 1922, Dalmeny, West Lothian, Scotland who married Agnes Martin (1856-1915). My Great Grandfather was William Beveridge, born 1877 and was one of several siblings to Jane, Robert & George. William's son was William Branders Beveridge (1899-1960) my grandfather who left Scotland aboard a ship from London to Australia where he married and had a family till his death.

Mrs. Mary Florence Beveridge, widow of James Beveridge and native of Donaldson, died early today at her home, 2252 West Market Street following an illness of 9 weeks. She was aged 38 years.

Deceased was a daughter of Mrs. Mary Kimmel and the late Adam Kimmel, of Donaldson and had been living in Pottsville for the past 17 years. She attended the Sedond Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a son, James Beveridge, at home; her mother, Mrs. Mary Kimmel, Donaldson; and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Joseph Jones, Minersville; Mrs. Sadie Fleming, Mrs. Oscar Morgan, Mrs. Howard Starr, Joseph and Charles Kimmel, all of Donaldson; Mrs. William Freeman, Reading; and Mrs. Alfred Adams, Philadelphia.

Funeral arrangments have not been completed.

The funeral of William Beveridge took place at two o'clock yesterday afternoon from the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Beveridge, 2252 West Market Street, with the Rev. Wilfred P. Riggs, of the Second Presbyterian Church, conducting the services.

Burial was made in the Presbyterian Cemetery and the funeral was largely attended.

Those serving as pall bearers were: John Lehman, George Meyers, Andrew Rosenberger, Harry Beach, John Bowers and Guy Irving. Ritzel and Son, of Minersville, were the funeral directors.

Thank you so much for your kind answer. I have taken the liberty of making copies of some of the information from
"clicks" from the addresses shown. I knew that some of my
ancestors were coal mining employees, some weavers and some ploughmen, I believe it was. I have every book about Fife
and Dunfermline in particular that I can find and afford.

I have had the delightful experience of visiting in Dunfermline a couple of hours in 1995 and 4 or 5 days and
nights several years later when we went to Edinburgh for
ordination of James E. M. MacArthur as Chief of Clan Arthur. My husband and I took the train over the famous
bridge and found a room at a B&B on the eastern side of
town (near a sports arena, I believe) owned by a wonderful
couple, the Pitcairns. It was in April and we had two surprises. First, our other two trips had been in summer,
once in a 100 year heat wave and the second a 300 year heat wave. I thought people lied when they claimed that Scotland was cold and wet (our plastic rain capes never got out of their packets until we got back home). Being from sea level (actually, I think after Hurricane Katrina's tidal wave the insurance companies claimed we were at 13 feet above) we were whipped by the hills of Dunfermline and the weather
varied from cold to wet and cold. We had a MARVELOUS stay.
A friend that I met on a web program took time off from
work a day or so to ride us around to areas where my families had lived (I had the cemetery book showing who was buried and where but when he'd stop the car I'd just cry---
too emotional to get out and look for their stones---just
felt their presence) and Sheila Pitcairn (no relation) the
famous genealogist who had found several generations of
my McArthurs, took us to a neighboring town where she was
the speaker at a club. I regret that she retired before I
got back. Toured the abbey, CArnegie's home and museum.
My GGgrandparents left there around 1845 and now I know why they had so many damask tablecloths, used and patched until nothing but rags. I kept wondering how it must have hurt
those who had to leave the beautiful country and come to
the USA (in their case, after a 7 year stopover in Ireland).

Just a thought. If I look up the baptism records of the
children of the McArthurs, Spences, etc. would/could the
names of the witnesses shown on the records help in any way identifying the specific family? I've always been curious about them.

Thanks again for the information about the coal mines. Thank goodness we and our children didn't have to go through that torture.

Thanks very much for this information - there are a lot of Beveridge families local to Dunfermline and the names I have so far are Thomas and Robert so it may be no link at all but I will see if there's anything.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Hurricane - it must be really difficult for you and I hope you get back to some kind of normality soon.

I think the notation in your workbook could be Berrielaw or Berrylaw - it was an area between Dunfermline and Crossford and you'll find some information about it here: http://afinitas.org/Cowie/Bios/NC17xxC.html.

There was a weaving industry in Dunfermline for a long time and some of the old mill buildings still stand and have been converted to flats. Quite a few of my ancestors worked in the industry too although the Beveridges I have seem to be in coal mining at Dalgety near Dunfermline.

If you've any other questons about Dunfermline I'd be happy to help as I'm just about to start a genealogy evening course and will be in the local library more.

For many years I have been hunting the parents and siblings
of my GGGgrandmother Margaret BEVERIDGE, who married James
McArthur 23 December 1785. I believe it was in Dunfermline.
I have not been able to get all of my genealogical "finds"
together since our house damage and resulting shuffling
around of my 'stuff' by various helpers and family during
repairs. Hurricane Katrina, you know. I am possible, well
pretty sure, that in 2001 I found info that his parents
were also in Dunfermline James was a weaver on early children's baptism records, weaver-manufacturer on later ones and I was told by a genealogist that this meant not that he had a factory but that he hired home weavers to produce for him. I have the notation in my workbook something about Borrielaw. Place? Company?
the meaning of which I don't know. If the naming pattern helps, their children were Margaret, John, Janet, Barbara, James, William, Elizabeth, another John (first one must have died young), Andrew (My GGgrandfather) and Peter. It could be that James was baptised in 1759 at Dunblane, Perthshire. His parents were James McArthur and Elizabeth
Jamieson. No other info on them.

CHAUNCEY: Doris V. (Beveridge) Childress, 88, of Chauncey, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Russells Nursing Home in Albany, Ohio.

She was born April 9, 1922 in Carbondale, Ohio,(WaterlooTownship, Athens County, Ohio) daughter of the late Fred H, and Emma Ethel Six Beveridge.
Doris was the widow of the late Dennis H. Childress.

She was a member of the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.

Doris is survived by a son, James Lou (Bonnie) Childress of Millfield, Ohio; a daughter, Debra D. West of Albany, Ohio; grandchildren, Travis (Carma) West of Albany, Kelly West of Albany and Heather (Jeff) Warmke of Athens, Ohio; great grandchildren, Raegan West of Albany, Madison and Luke Warmke of Athens; a brother, Roger (Darlene) Beveridge of Marion, Ohio and a sister, Eileen Saylor of New Marshfield, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Sue Childress; a son-in-law, Barry West; a sister, Helen Shingler and four brothers, Clyde, Gerald, Eddie and Dine Beveridge.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Souers-Cardaras funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, Ohio with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will be in New Marshfield Cemetery, New Marshfield, Ohio.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

I have an Andrew Beveridge no d.o.b. listed. He was the son of John Beveridge and Mary Unknown whom he married after the death of 1st wife Susannah Noble (their children were born between 1768 and 1780. Susannah died before 1807.

Andrew had a sister from the same mother by the name of Susannah. Andrew m. Rebecca H.L. Race 14 June 1830 Cameron Parish, Loudoun Co. Va.

Sorry can't help you with an Andrew Beveridge. There were no children in my line of the Beveridge family born in 1801, the nearest was an Isabella born 1807. Hope you have luck chasing Andrew down soon.

I have spoken with my father to confirm that the family originated from Dumfemiline and it's close surroundings. I have managed to go back a little way before the part of the family immigrated out to Australia. I very interested in getting a look at the file and going through it and working the family history back towards this time.

This is exactly where my ancestors orginated from in Scotland. I have confirmed this as best I could with my father, who was the original one chasing down the family history.
I would appreciate it if you could end me the file in question. This will fill in a lot of blank spaces as I have managed only to get back thus far to the mid 1800's.

I am currently doing what you do on ancestry .com.au and the string you have mentioned is of a great deal of interest to myself. This is mainly because my surname is Beveridge and my ancestors are directly from Fife. So I'm guessing that this ties into it quiet nicely. I would be really interested in looking at this file.
