Beverly/Turpin Connection

The name of Beverly entered the Turpin family in Henrico County, VA, at the earliest in about 1760s, at the latest in 1786. I'm trying to find out what the family link is between the Turpin and Beverly families. It is also the connection came through a maternal side which would be the Talman or Redford families.

Thanks for your help!

Brenda Austin Mason

Stephen Beverley (c. 1806 - 1851)

Hi,

I am trying to find out more about Stephen Beverley, my paternal great (x3) grandfather.

Currently, I know he was born in Binbrook, Lincolnshire around 1806 and married Harriet Waller (c. 1810 - 1875) in Sculcoates, Kingston-upon-Hull. The couple had eleven children. Stephen died at his sister-in-law's (Frances Pettinger) inn in Gainsborough the day after the 1851 census was taken.

I am drawing a complete blank in searching for Stephen's parents. I've ordered a book of parish records for Binbrook which I hope may help - but if anyone has information to share I would be most grateful.

Old-Time Mourning Ring, dated 1756, Found in Urbanna Street

Richmond Times Dispatch - 6 June 1929

An old-time "mourning ring" of the Beverley family was recently found in the streets of Urbanna by J. W. Hazelwood, a resident of the old town.

The ring, believed to have been unearthed by the recent heavy rains, bears the inscription "the Hon. Wm. Beverley, Blandfield, Essex, Obit, Feb 28, 1756, age 60." The ring is thought to be the property of one of William Beverley's descendants, who have lived in Essex, King and Queen and Middlesex Counties, since the earliest days of Virginia.

It was customary in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries for persons of prominence to provide by will, for mourning rings to be given to their children and grandchildren or to dear friends.

William Beverley, of Blandfield, who died in 1756, was the builder of the mansion, which is still in possession of his descendants.

He was the son of Robert Beverley, who wrote a history of Virginia, and of Ursula Byrd, a daughter of Colonel William Byrd, the first, of Westover.

Publications / 731
Virginia State Library & Archives
Sent to Helen Battleson 13 Sep 1993 @ Hewick in Urbanna
www.hewick.com
I am very Excited to see your informaton.

I am a NUNN researcher and I have found information that Mary Keeble (maiden name unsure) and George Keeble living in Lancaster County VA.
George Keeble left a nuncupative will is in the depostions of John Shapley and George Munnes Lancaster County wills (1653-1699)

This is the Mary that married Capt Robert Beverley shortly after the death of her husband.
The above listed George Munnes I think is George NUNN and his sister is Catherine Hunes you have listed.
Which is actually Catherine NUNN.
There Father JOhn NUNN b. 1636 in Westmoreland County VA moved to Maryland for a time and then moved back to Lancaster Before he died in 1677 in Lancaster Co. VA.
I do know that John NUNN was in Lancaster by 1673 because he listed as his Tith in 1673.

I was wondering, you mentioned that Catherine Hones was born in abt 1649 in Abt 1649 in James City Co, VA, I was wondering what your source was for Catherine being born in James City VA, Maybe John NUNN her father came back sooner than I thoght.
I do find him there and several documents on him.
I was also thinking that Catherine was born a little later than 1649. But at the same time I might have John NUNN birth a little wrong.
I have the followng children listed or Sibling of possible Catherine Hones NUNN.
Thomas
JOhn
Samuel
Ann
Jane.
and now I guess George which I did not have listed and also Catherine.
I find John NUNN in Lancaster Co. VA transcribed as
BUNS BUNS and MUNS.
I hope to correspond with you.
Priscilla
My grandmother's name was Loretta Osborne or Hubbard, the mother of the twins. You may not know that you had twin sons. They were named after him. Any information would be helpful.

Robt. Beverley b.1641; Which wives are right?

I just this week made a connection to this Beverley family through a descendant of Capt. Harry Beverley. As I have begun to look over the research available here on the family records, I have been very confused on just who was Robert's wives. I am coming up with variations of from 2 to 4 wives and seem to have sorted out some of the variations, but it's all the "Marys" in the middle that have me messed up.

There seems to be some agreement that there was an UNKNOWN "Elizabeth" in the beginning and most show his final marriage to a Katherine Armistead who is also shown as variations of Catherine Hone Armistead.

In the middle I find some reports will show a Mary Byrd Carter and/or variations of a Margaret "Mary" Boyd Keeble. Several show both women on their reports. And I find both of them shown, from time to time, to have been married previous to George Keeble. Twice, Mary Keeble was aka'd as Mary Whitby.I get a feeling that this is really one lady, but where does all the names come from?

Beverley Family - Kirton-in-Lindsey

I am seeking any information about Claude Beverley. He was born in Retford (Notts) in 1882 but by 1900 was living in Kirton-in Lindsey (Lincs). It is possible that he emigrated to either Australia or Canada around 1912/13 but could possibly have later returned to England. He was the eldest son of Frederick J Beverley and Edith A Beverley.

Some BEVERLEY/BEVERLY families living in the area of NC/VA/KY/TN/WV in the last 200+ years *may* belong to a very interesting group of people called MELUNGEONS (muh-LUNGE-uhns - rhymes w/ dungeons)

Some HEALTH problems *may* be involved with this ancestry. My websites noted below have some general information on the MELUNGEONS themselves and more detailed information on the possible health issues.

Please take a look if your BEVERLEY/BEVERLYfamily came from or passed through these areas, or has an Indian grandparent 'myth' which you have been unable to prove, a ship-wrecked or adoption story, mentions of 'Portyghee,' Black Dutch/Scot/Irish etc ancestry or is simply one of those 'brick-wall' families. There are physical characteristics noted on my site which may help identify descendants.
Nancy S
THE MELUNGEON HEALTH EDUCATION AND SUPPORT NETWORK:
http://www.melungeonhealth.org

Melungeon Information and Common Surname List:
http://members.home.net/sparkys9/melungeons.html

MelungeonDNA info
http://www.geocities.com/bourbonstreet/inn/1024/DNAannouce.h...

FIBROMYALGIA in YOUR family?
