The Bevington's are no relation to me but the signal company that was started in Fostoria was the precursor to the one my grandfather incorporated in 1919, also in Fostoria. His was the last signal company in Fostoria and was closed in 1978 when the plant burned down for the third time. It was known as the American Railway Signal Co which leased the property and factory to Standard Railway Fusee Corp. out of Boonton, NJ.

I did find Lenius in the 1899 Fostoria City Directory. He was a cooper and lived at 341 Summit St. The directory did not give any other Bevington's. Was the Bevington Signal Co [James H Bevington of Bellevue, OH] which was located in Fostoria any connection to your Lenius?

The Henry Bevington in the above message, born 1828, was the son of Henry Bevington (1788-1860) and Rachel Randolph (1797-1860). The Henry born 1788 had parents Henry Bevington (1754-1843) with wife Ann Blaknon (1761-?). At least that's what I show but I'm not a pro, this is a hobby with me. I try to document my own Thompson line as well as possible but not so much on the peripherals. Hope this helps.

Yes, quite a few. John Thompson and Hiley Dorland had a daughter named Sarah Anna Thompson (1806-1849). She married Jesse Cross (Krause). Their daughter Hannah Cross (1832-1876) married Henry D. Bevington (1828-1888) and the parade of Bevington's in my tree began. They had children; Elias, William Henry, Harriett A., Jesse, James M., Christian, Lewis, Ira David, Isabelle, Alfaretta and Willam Willard. I have many of those childrens descendants/children in my tree as well. I live in Denver and half time is just ending so got to go back and watch the game.

You're welcome. Yes, John Thompson and Hiley Dorland are my GGGG Grandparents. Both of them can be seen at www.findagrave.com in the Thompson cemetery, Wayne County, Ohio. Several Bevington headstones there as well. I maintain a tree at Ancestry.com titled "Descendants of John and James Thompson". I've been going down each of the descendant lines from Hiley and John and just happeded to have been doing the Bevington's a couple of weeks ago. I'm off doing the Thompson/Burge line at present.

Hannah (Cross) Bevington can be seen in the Thompson Cemetery of Wayne County, Ohio at www.findagrave.com; http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2...;

John Thompson and his wife Hiley (Dorland) Thompson also shown. Hiley Dorland's family is highly detailed in the recent publication "The Dorland Enigma Solved" by the New York Genealogy Society. Hiley's family dates back to the birth of the nation at the Dutch founding of New Amsterdamn (New York) around 1620. Very, very old American family. John Thompson and Hiley are listed as 1st families of Ohio. They settled in Fredericksburg, Wayne County, Ohio around 1810. Hiley's father Luke Dorland is listed in the Daughters of the American Revolution online database as a private in the New Jersey Militia. I'm told that Hiley's descendants are also eligible for something called the Holland Society based on the early settlers of New York City. The Dorland line originates in the Netherlands and still exists there today.

Hi Dave, I'm going to post a short note here as you were the one mentioning the Bevington roots web page. I have no idea what that is but it sounds official. Anyway, my own Thompson family line married into the Isa Idella Bevington line when Isa Idella Bevington's grandfather, Henry D. Bevington (1828-1888) married Hannah Cross (Kraus)on 29 Jun 1850 in Wayne County, Ohio. You can see Hannah (Cross) Bevington in our ancestral Thompson Cemetery on www.findagrave.com, Wayne County, Ohio. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2...;

Hannah's parents were Jesse Cross (1806-1886) and Sarah Anna Thompson (1806-1849). Sarah Anna Thompson's parents were my patriarch's John Thompson (1771-1867) and Hiley Dorland (1778-1864). They also are both shown in the Thompson Cemetery, Wayne County, Ohio at www.findagrave.com. The reason for posting this note is that from Hiley Dorland on back the Dorland family has been thoroughly researchered and published in the 460 page New York Genealogy Society book "The Dorland Enigma Solved". That book traces the Dorland family back to the original founders of New Amsterdamn (New York) around the time of the Pilgrims in the 1620's. In a nut shell, all of the folks on here who are discussing being decended from Isa Idella Bevington (1893-1956) are also descended from Hiley Dorland one of the oldest families in America. Hiley's father Luke is listed in the Daughters of the American Revolution online database as a private in the New Jersey militia. John and Hiley Thompson are listed amongst the 110 or so first families of Wayne County Ohio. Their farm is embroidered onto a quilt showing 1830 Wayne County. It hangs, or used to hang, on the wall of the Wooster Library Genealogy department. The Dorland line continues back to the Netherlands where it originated and still exists to this day. Just a fun thing to know but thought I'd mention it here before I move on to other corners of my tree. Terry

Am trying to get information on a company that was formed in 1887 and operated in Fostoria, Seneca Co, OH. The Bevington Signal Company. They manufactured torpedoes for use by the railroad companies to signal oncoming rail traffic. It was secured to the tracks by a strap. The main principal of the company was James H.
Alice K Bevington mother of Delores Boyer and wife of Maurice Glenn Newman

My name is Teresa Sabido and I was and am looking for anyone related to the late Maurice Glenn Newman and his son Maurice Glenn Newman Jr.
I believe that Maurice Glenn Newman Sr. Born in 1922 and died in 1990 was my Auntie's widow. My Aunty Gertrude was married and I think she had two children by Maurice Newman when he was in the service. My father was her youngest brother and he was only 10 years old when his sister and her daughter died in a plane crash and all these years he never knew anything about his sister and her life before she passed away and I am trying to fill that void for him and my genealogy for my children. I really am looking for someone who might know of there relationship and might have some pictures of her and her family that they might be willing to share. I know that in Maurice's Obituary it states that Dolores and Clyde were his step children and that he had three brothers and sisters also if anyone can help me please let me know. It would be so awesome to see my days face light up when he reads about his sister and her life with her family and also be able to see what his niece looked liked all those year ago before she passed and her brother and father. so if you know of anyone that can help me please let me know.

thank you

Teresa

Hi Dorothy,

My original post was from Aug 2006 .. when I was more novice in the work that had went on before me. This post got revived recently when Janice posted.

I did get a reply from Floralyn (back when I made this post) regarding the Robert Barnes research results.

I appreciate all the info here an in the archives that you have provided. I've gotten my Bevington data in much better shape over the past 3 years, with the help of many here.

Thanks, Kirk

AN ASIDE:
I have a GED DIFF program that I wrote (not ready for release) that I can use to compare GED files and report the differences. I've used it for several of my family lines with others I am working with and it has been very helpful to us to see what the other has (and to keep in sync). I would be interested in comparing the BEVINGTON line with someone who thinks they have a pretty complete Bevington line that they can capture in GED format.
Kirk,

I, too have been working on the four Bevington family trees for many many years. I have their trees fairly complete with what I have gleaned from correspondence with other Bevington researchers and research at the Family History Library in Salt Lake.

I have not been able to prove that these four Bevington men are brothers but John Bavington, Thomas Bevington and Charles Bevington were all in Washington Co., PA on the 1783 Tax list & 1785 Tax List. All three were on the PA Militia records and land records.
On 11 Sep 1794, Charles, John, and Thomas Bevington signed "Amnesty" in Smith Twp., Washington Co., PA "Men of the Whiskey Insurrection in Southwestern Pennsylvania edited by Elizabeth J. Wall, Pittsburgh, PA, 1888, Evansville Bindery, Inc., Evansville, IN.

In answer to your question 2) Yes, Thomas Bevington & Elizabeth Johnston are a complete distinct line. His earliest records began in Washington Co., PA. He died in Beaver Co., PA. His family information came from a Family Bible record.

John Bavington & Ruth McKinnon are a complete distinct line. His biography is in the Commemorative Biuographical Record of Washington County, Pa and is on line. I have a photo of his tombstone in Washington Co., PA which was submitted by Amy Abbott who is a descendant.

Your Question 3) The research by Robert Barnes was completed for The John Bavington & Mary Beck family from Cecil Co., MD. It was hoped his research would uncover relationship between the four Bevington's Henry, John, Thomas & Charles but it was unsuccessful. Descendants of the John Bavington & Mary Beck family went to Philadelphia, PA. I have quite a few records of this family and their descendants.

You could contact me Dorothy Tuttle at dgtuttle2@comcast.net

Hi - this is not my family group but I am trying to research the Bevingtons as a whole, so anything that is passed to me is always very welcome.

I have just picked up this mail and it is late at night so I haven't had time to look thoroughly - I have found a birth registration for Thomas Bevington in 1866 registed at Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire. I haven't found him on the census yet. However there were other Bevington events registered at Cleobury in 1866, one is the birth of Alfred Joseph bevington in the March Quarter. Because of the unusual surname I do think there may be a connection between two family groups here. There was also a marriage that year of Mary A Bevington to George Jones.
I have a fair sized tree for Alfred but as yet I'm still looking at Thomas, do you have any idea when he arrived in Canada?
I'll look further tomorrow and get back to you.......
Regards
Sandra
Could you contact me direct on sandra.bev@talktalk.net
Where are you?
Did you ever find any info on Ole?
My earliest info is as follows:
Rachel Wood b 15 Aug 1804 father Joel Wood b 24 Aug 1778 in Tygart's Valley WV
Rachels mother was Elizbeth Miller b Jul 1 1777 Pendleton County WV
Rachel Married Henry Bevington abt 1822 in Ohio
I have a list of nine childern to them. Let me know if you are interested in that list. Joel is one of them.
I have some info on Charles b abt 1760 Smith twp WAshington,Pa
His brothers are probably Thomas, Henry and Capt John Bevington. from the Rev War. Havnt' established the relationship to Joel or confirmed if it is the same Henry who is Joel's father. This info is from Beverly Hyde so imagine it is pretty accurate. I don't do this on a regular basis. In fact this is the fist time in a few years.
Aloha Janice

I do not have any information on them before they had a son Thomas who was born in England on 6/30/1866. Thomas was a soapmaker by trade and married Lucy Martin. Lucy Martin 5/3/1871-5/15/1925 and Thomas moved to Toronto, Canada and had three kids. I can give you information on the family. Lucy is also the sister of Eliza Martin 12/14/1869 - 12/25/1949 who married George Ferguson and is my great grandmother. I am looking for information on Lucy and Eliza's father Richard Martin and Eliza's husband, George Ferguson.

This is a reply to the last two RootsWeb Bevington Message Board messages,

To. Kirk,

Thank you for your good wishes. I too hope someone out there has the answers for us.

To, Mongo,

I'm not sure where I got that English line information I posted. I know it was not an "authoritative" source or I would have kept a reference.

I probably got it from another RootsWeb site.

When I type John Bevington born 1721 into a RootsWeb search now, it yields seven hits, including my site, but only one,

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

other than mine, leads back to Jeffery Bevington born 1498 so that's probably where I originally got my information.

I’ve just tried several times to send an email message to the the authors of this site at the email address given there but the email always bounces with the message “The following addresses had fatal errors:domain name required.”

I have left their email address out of this posting for when I include it, the posting bounces with the message, "Invalid or Unauthorized Input Has Been Detected”.

You can find thire email address though by following the link to their page I show above.

I’m sure I typed the email address given on their RootsWeb site correctly on at least one of my failed attempts, do you have any ideas on how I should proceed from here?

Bruce
