Rod,
My branch of the Beynon family were originally from Carmathenshire, some 20 miles west of Swansea. I know that some of the family moved to the Swansea area in the mid 1800's as the industrial revolution gathered pace.
Interestingly in my grandmothers possessions when she died (1971 aged 87) was a photograph of a Richard and Sarah Beynon from the USA. On the back of the photo however it seems it was printed by a photographer in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. So in reply to your enquirey - probably not, but there may well be a link further back in time.
I have however traced your great grandfather in the 1871 Census living at 9 Edward Street Swansea (aged 2) with his parents Richard and Harriet Beynon and his brother William M Beynon aged 3. Hope this helps.
Regards
Graham

Graham
I am Rod Beynon from Grand Junction, Colorado. My great grandfather was Richard Beynon from Swansea, Wales. He was born to Richard Beynon and Harriet Unger Beynon March 2, 1869, in Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales. His father was born in Swansea in 3 Apr 1844 to Richard and Mary Ann Clement Beynon. I was wondering if maybe we were related to you and your Beynon's?

I believe Jonah's brother Thomas was my great grandfather. If it is confirmed that this is the case then I have a substantial amount of information on the Beynon family from Wales, UK. I live in the city of Swansea near the area that the Beynon family were from. I also have copies of letters written from cousins in Pennsylvania to my grandmother Margaret Beynon (daughter of Thomas). If you are interested in finding out more please email me.

I am looking for any info on Jonah Beynon's family or his wifes Ann Harris's family. I know Jonah came to the Pennsylvania in 1882. He had a sister named Martha Beynon Chubbs that also came to the Usa around the same time. I believe they came from somewhere around Merthyr Tydvil, Wales.Jonah also left behind a brother Thomas.
Jonah and Ann had 9 children. One of which was Alexander Beynon who married Elizabeth May Hoskins. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.
My grandfather was Frank Dean Beynon who was the father of Kenneth Beynon and Donald Beynon. There is a grave marker at Union Cemetery in Meyesdale, Pennsylvania. For Frank David Beynon. I believe the family immigrated from Wales to Meyersdale, Pa. I also believe my grandfather Frank was a brother of Luther. Most of the Beynon grave markers ( sites ) are in Meyersdale, Pa.

Donald D. Beynon, Jr.

He was married first to Mabel Evans and then to Lousie (Unknown maiden name). I have a good amount of information about Luther but I am trying to explore more about his parents. From his social security application he notes his father as Frank David Beynon and a mother named Mary Botting. Please email me with any information, unfortunately those who knew this have long since passed.

Don't forget that before the early 20thC a lot of people were illiterate and even those who wrote may not have been well schooled - they wrote down what they heard. Spellings were not standardised for a long time.

So when someone came for a baptism the vicar or clerk will have writen down the name as he heard it and the couple who couldn't read or write couldn't correct it

Discount alternative spellings at your peril!

My father always told me the little ditty about our ancestors coming from Aberaman, near Aberdare, Glamorganshire, South Wales, and I've never forgotten it! I hope that will mean something to someone on the Beynon search!

My Beynon connection: Thomas Hardy Beynon 1774-1845 m. Mary Ann (last name unknown) b. 1790.
Their son William Hardy Beynon 1820-1888 m. Elizabeth (Eliza) Ferber (or Furber) 1823-1899.
Their daughter Sarah Ann Beynon 1841-1908 m. She married Clarence William Harris 1900-1955.

Does any of this ring any bells with any of you?! There are many descendants of each of these surnames, as you've all probably discovered, and I'm trying to sort it all out and figure out which Beynons these are and other family information about them and the relatives before them!!

Thanks for any information! And later his children were in New York and Scranton. They came here from Wales in the early 1880's. I have no info on the Harris'. Does she fit in your tree? He was a farm labourer and drove cattle regularly over the Preselli mountains.
He moved up to Treharris in Glamorganshire when the collieries were sunk there and lived in a place called Edwardsville.
I have looked back at my family tree, but there has not been a Benny/ Benjamin among my lot.

However, if there's anything that I can help with, by all means come back to me. Good luck ! Isn't it just fascinating ? I wish I had more time to delve deeper at the moment.

Bye for now,
Anne

Henllan Amgoed is about 10 mile from Narberth and I know that my great-great- grandfather Joshua Beynon was born at Llanddewi Velfrey (listed in olden times as Llanddewy) which is close to Henllan Amgoed.
Looking up information on Crunwere, I came across messages between you and Mr Beynon - including your obvious scholarly research... I am a recent novice in researching family history but realise that there are connections with Crunwere via Kiffig/Keiffig/Cringa Kiffig and Laugharne.
My great-grandfather was on Benjamin Raymond, born, I think in Crunwere in 1829 and died approx. 1896, having been married to Keturah (Phillips). His father was Daniel and his father: William (born 1750s? and died 1840 and apparently buried in the churchyard, Crunwere, having been married (wife's name unknown) in 1787.
I would be grateful for any light you could shed or guidance you could give.
The joys of the internet!! I am just starting out on tracing members of the family - from a distance (Norfolk). I 'looked up' Crunwere to find out more. A great grandfather and his predecessors had connections there before family moved on to Laugharne and beyond...
I noticed your surname. Coincidentally, probably, an Edward Beynon, 63, is shown on the 1901 census return as working as smith and general farm worker for my grandfather in Laugharne. I know that a Beynon was also the blacksmith in Broadway, Laugharne around the 30s/war years.
Good luck with your research.
Eric Rhodes

My Margaret BEYNON was born 1845 according to the U.S. Census of 1880. She may be one of the two Margaret BEYNONs born in March Q 1845 and Sept Q 1845 at Pembrey, Carmarthenshire. Also at same parish were Christened William 26 July 1841 and Elizabeth 22 Mar 1835, children of Benjamin and Frances. Another Margaret who was christened the same month as the child of Benj. & Frances was listed as the child of Ann BEYNON, no father listed. Would like to know more of either of the Margaret BEYNONs of this parish.
Thanx
Betty
