Hi -

I've been reading these threads - William Pickett and Margaret Wall were my great grandparents.

I remember that Aunt Florence and Uncle Burke used to come to visit my grandmother and others on Memorial Day weekend when I was a kid.

William (and Margaret) are buried in Prospect Cemetary, Howes Cave, NY. According to the headstone he died in 1937.

Mary Sieder

Hi - I've been reading these threads. William Pickett and Margaret Wall were my great grandparents. My grandmother was Mabel Pickett Friss - she was Florence's sister. I remember her and Burke Bigwood coming to visit on Memorial Day weekends when I was a kid. I'm trying to find more information on Margaret Wall. If you come across any or have any I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Mary Sieder

Did you already have the information that Pearl's mother was a Pratt & not a Fahey? I'm curious because I have been in contact for several years with one of her grandchildren and they believed she was William Faheys sister.. . But in reality she was his wife Jessie Pratts, half sister. I would love to talk more about this with you! :) Here is my email.. I look forward to hearing from you. qqladybee272@yahoo.com

My great-grandfather's name was James Bigwood in Jefferson County, NY. He had one daughter, Evelyn (b. 3/31/1901) who was my grandmother and was married to Lyle Harrington, one son, James Lyle Harrington (b. 10/11/1925), my father. Any chance this 1821 Bigwood is my great-great grandfather?

Jim Harrington (Jr.)

Sorry to disappoint, but my William Bigwood Sr [b. Frome] was married to Jane Cornish. Their son, William Jr [also b. Frome], was married to Jane Titt. I don't believe there is a connection.

I hope you are enjoying your caravan trip. We took a 10 day caravan trip from Mandurah to Coral Bay last year. Our kids are at Margaret River this year, and with a babe to be born in a few weeks we'll not likely get a big trip in when we visit the end of this week. We fly from Canada this Friday.

Roger Miller

MARTHA (unconfirmed surname - married a Mr Bigwood) born Abt.1823 in Westbury, Wiltshire and believed to have died Abt.1880 in Camberwell. HER SON was JOHN BIGWOOD. He married JANE (?Baker?) and had MARTHA- b.1882 in Lambeth and FREDERICK WILLIAM JOHN- b.1884 in Greenwich (possibly other children). FREDERICK moved to Dorset and married LAURA JEWER in 1904 in Wimborne had 6 children in Wimborne district. He enlisted with Dorset and, later, with Devonshire Regiments and was killed in action 1917. I am looking for John's ancestry - eg: father's name and mothers maiden name and any siblings. FWJB & LJ are my partners Gt-Gt-GP's.

BIGWOOD family in Westbury, WILTSHIRE

Hello, I am looking for information on the ancestry of Private Frederick William John Bigwood (abt.1884-1917). although he was born in London, his father and grandmother (meaning his father's mother) came from Westbury. I do not know much about the grandmother only that she was called MARTHA and that she was widowed (so I need to find her maiden name too). Her two known children were Martha and John. In an early census c.1851 John appears in a different record to his mother and sister and is living with other family members. JOHN married JANE (possibly nee Baker?) and they had Frederick. He is my partners Gt-Gt-GF. FREDERICK married LAURA JEWER in 1904 in Wimborne, Dorset.

Terry - Thanks for your reply. The last time I saw your father and your uncle Bill was either the late 30's or late 40's. I think your Great Uncle Bill(your grandmother's half-brother), your Uncle Bill and myself all received the William from your Grandmother's father(William Pickett) my grandfather. As a matter of fact - although my first name is the same as my father - I have always been called Bill. If I remember correctly your Uncle Bill and I were born on the same day - June 11 - but one year apart. I would be interested in what you have and if I can add anything I will do so. My e-Mail is carbill611@aol.com.

Burke,

Yes, I am the daughter of Frank Scrom, Kate Northup is my Aunt. I also have an Aunt Mary, and an Uncle Bill. My father died in 1985. My grandmother, Eva Pickett Scrom, was your mother's sister (or half-sister). I don't have a lot of information on the Picketts yet but I would be very happy to share with you what I have. Perhaps you could give my info on your mother and your family. If you want to give me your e-mail address I can send you what I have. Or I can mail it to you, or post it here.

London Bigwoods

I'm Paul Bigwood - living in Thatcham in Berkshire. (Not the same Paul Bigwood living in Hampshire from an earlier message). I'm researching my family name . My paternal Grandfather Ernest Bigwood (1890 - 1972) was 'adopted' by his aunt Emma Bigwood and took her name. His real name was Knight. Emma nee Knight was born in 1844 in Cambridge UK. William Bigwood was born in 1845 in Marlebone in London. I've found them in the 1881 census from LDS, but no trace of them in 1891. The Knights are also interesting in that Ernest was 10th child ( 6 boys 4 girls) Mother died in childbirth. Family split some going to an orphange in Bristol UK, others left to fend for themselves. Must be some relatives somewhere!
Hi Susan,

Not that I am aware of. My Grandfather was born Oct 24 1890 in Bloomsbury as Ernest /Knight/ but as his mother died soon after (<3Months) large family (10 children) was split up and he went to live with his aunt Emma Knight who married a William Bigwood. Just decided to take her name. No formal adoption seems to have taken place. William Bigwood did not take in lodgers. He died around 1910 and is not show as having any lodgers in the 1881 or 1901 census. Sorry

Regards
Paul Bigwood

Hi Paul,

I was wondering if your grandparents ever took in kids other than family. I have just received a letter from the children society and it tells me that my grandfather lived with a Mrs. Bigwood from 166d Queens Park Court ., off Harrow Road in West London. in 1884. My grandfather would of been just a little boy of the age of 2 years. His name is Arthur Fenwick Mclachlan.and his mothers name is Annie Mclachlan. I was just inquiring to see if you have ever heard of them. Any information you might have would be a great help. Thanks Susan my e-mail address is susanlsmith1@shaw.ca
