I hail from the same Johannes Frederic Augustus Binding. His descendants settled in Western Australia, Perth. I live in Sydney Australia.

I have been discussing our family connections with my brother Kelvin who is the prime mover in our Binding family tree issues.

We both have William and Harriet Lewis in our tree because we have this William as the illegitimate son of our 5 X Great Grandfather William's wife, Ann Lewis, of Stogursey, not of William and Jane Burge. We have this based on the tree research of a Keith Binding from some six or so years ago (and who would appear to be related to you).

We can see where you are coming from: Harriet was born in Nettlecombe and married a "William Binden/Binding", and William and Jane Burge had a son called William. But why then move to Stogursey and have their seven children there?

Our Stogursey William (born 1804) had settlement rights in Stogursey (as he was born there) and it would be natural to have married Harriet in her own parish, then both move back to Stogursey as marrieds, especially as Mum Ann Lewis was living there (she was living with a John Coles at this time). Could there have been a family connection between Ann and Harriet also?

Its all a bit assumption and guesswork here: have you some definitive proof of the Burge connection to William and Harriet that is not based on the parish records?

Yes one of the sons of Edwin and Elizabeth was Edwin Thomas Binding and he married Rosina M Rees and had children Sheila, Michael and Mary Valery.

Louisa's surname Coles.

I found your Jane Bindon daughter of William/Jane 20 4 1806 born 19/3/1805 - spelt Bindon not Binding which is why I couldnt find her.

Can you give me some more details on your Binding family as per my last e-mail? I want to be sure we are taling about the same Harriett Lewis and William Binding

I can identify a James and Louisa (surname not known) from our tree at the right dates as yours (1848) parents William and Harriet Binding (nee Lewis).

Is the son of Edwin and Elizabeth called Edwin T Binding who married R M Rees and had children Sheila and Mary by any chance?

Edwin Binding (abt 1886 - 24th May 1935) born in Stogursey
married Elizabeth Ann Davies 1910

His Parents were:
James Binding (abt 1847 - Unknown) born Williton
Louisa Coles (abt 1848 - Unknown) Married 1872

Next Gen:
William Binding (15 Jan 1809 - abt 1863) born Nettlecombe
Harriet Lewis (abt 1811 - Unkonwn) Married 1832

Next Gen:
William Binding (Feb 1778) born St Decumans
Jane Burge (abt 1784) Married 1801

Next Gen:
William Binding (Unknown)
Mary ?

All this information comes from Martin Southwood's excellent site of births marriages and deaths: http://mysite.orange.co.uk/wsomparreg.(I couldn't find Jane's birth on the St.Decuman's parish register so assume she was born elsewhere?)

However there seems to be a problem here with our Williams. My 5 X Great Grandfather William married an Ann Lewis in 1788 in Stogursey. One of the later illegitimate sons of Ann (husband William disappears around 1795)is also named William (born 1804 - putative father John Coles) and it is he who marries Harriet Lewis (born 1810 - died 1893)according to our family tree records.

Can you check what information you have here and get back to me please?

Thanks for all the great information. William is my 3rd great grand father and his son William (who married Harriet Lewis) is my 2nd great grand father. What is your connection? (hope you don't mind me asking).

I have also found another daughter to William and Jane, her name was Jane Binding Born 20 Apr 1806.

Do you have any other information Regarding William and Mary Binding, in fact any other leads would be great.

There is a baptism record for a William Binding, son of William & Mary Binding of 8/3/1778 at St. Decumans.

William Binding married Jane Burge on 4/9/1801 at Nettlecombe. Their children were:
Sarah bapt. 14/11/1802 born 15/10/1802
John bapt 15/7/1804 born 23/6/1804
William bapt 15/1/1809
James bapt 25/8/1811 born 3/8/1811
Henry Bapt 20/3/1814;
Mary Bapt at Beggern Huish on 17/11/1816 and
Ann bapt Beggern Huish 6/5/1821
William senior was a carpenter by trade

My apologies Kelvin - I missed Henry when going through our tree. I also was looking at someone else's research from Oz who had said that no-one else in the Binding clan had been born in Banwell - an error on their part.

Further to comments from Darrell... There was a Henry BINDING born in Banwell 11th may 1828 to parents Charles BINDING and Ann (nee Marshall)
Henry emigrated to Australia and died in Wandin in 1908 aged 79
Siblings of Henry... Edwin , Mary Ann and Eliza.

This family are in Darrells and my family tree.

I haven't a Henry Binding who matches yours, although I was interested in your reference to Banwell where my Great-Great Grandfather Robert Binding was born. My information is that there are no other Bindings shown as being born there however.
Are you in Australia? I might have one or two contacts down under who have Binding interests if my e-mail addresses are still correct.

Hi,

Would be interested in any Henry Bindings from Somersetshire that you may have listed. I have a MC of our Henry who had immigrated (date unknown) to Australia (and married 1879 to Elizabeth Ermina Heywood in Aust). His parents are listed as George and Mary (maiden name "not known") - he was age 45 - although I suspect this could be understated. I have seen reference in another researcher's tree that he was born in 1829 in Banwell.

Also wondering if is was relatived to any of the other Bindings that came to Aust at the same time (James or George)....

Anyway - that's where I am... could you please shed any light?

I am in possession of a listing of the majority of UK Binding member births and deaths from 1837 to 1950 showing place and year quarter with reg info. Also included for some is the maiden name of mother. For those searching the Aust Binding Family I also have the research papers of the Hill and Binding fams originally compiled by Malcolm G. Horsburgh if anyone is interested.

Sorry, all my Bindings are English ones (specifically originating in the County of Somerset). I know of no connection with Swedish or German Bindings or Bendings.

Hey Darrel, the only bending/binding connection that i have is Henry Christen Binding from Sweden whom married Louise Crickson. They had a son John August Biding who was also born in Sweden. John came out to Australia and changed his name from Binding to bending. Please let me know if this information relates to you. I have the Australian Bendings, and am trying to find out information about the Bindings. Please let me know if you can help!!!!!

My great great uncle emigrated from Somerset, England to USA in 1879/1880. Not sure of Christian name, but his father was Robert Binding, and mother was Sarah Binding nee Tinkling. His brother was Thomas Charles Binding. Is there anyone out there descended from him who wants to know ancestors etc?
