I am having great difficulty finding when and where my gt-gt-grandfather James Bingham married his wife Millicent Oxpring. He was probably a Methodist and lived around the Basford area in Nottingham. They should have got married around 1850 but I can't find any trace of it. Is it harder to trace methodist marriages? I have combed Ancestry and the bmd index.

Bingham - Bigham

Both Binghams and Bighams lived in colonial PA. I have done much research separating them out. Bighams lived predominately in Lancaster, York, and Adams counties. Bighams became quite prominent in and around Gettysburg, Adams Co and live there today. My good friend, the late Franklin R. Bigham had a true story to tell - he was both a Bigham and a Bingham. This is how it happened. He grew up a Bigham in Gettysburg, but when he went to North Carolina for college he became a Bingham. That is because his university insisted on spelling his name Bingham. When he graduated and came back to Gettysburg, he became a Bigham again. Perhaps the moral of this story is, when looking for Thomas Bingham of North Carolina, whose descendants say he was from Pennsylvania, do some research on the Bighams in VA and NC.

Does anyone know of a list of people buried in the Bingham Cemetery in either Hickman County Tennessee or Maury County Tennesse? I hear there is a book written "History of Hickman County". I was wondering if there is anything in it about the Binghams? No info is too small in helping me find my ancestors.

Thanks in advance.

Liz

For all researchers looking for descendants of Thomas Bingham of Connecticut

Hello Bingham Researchers,
Its time to post this message again. I'm the author of the Bingham book that corrects and updates the 1927-1930 book that at least two of you are searching for. That book is totally out of date. Yes, its available on Ancestry.com, but you should not refer to it. Instead, you want to get the newer version published in 1996 by the Bingham Association and updated annually since then. The title of the 1996 Bingham book is: The Bingham Family in the United States. The Descendants of Thomas Bingham of Connecticut. It is available in libraries throughout the United States and it is for sale. Contact me for details about the book.

I would like to have information as to what documentation is provided by the author.

I am now the very pleased owner of the book:

John and Margaret Bingham`s Family, 1803 - 1983
compiled by Josef A. Jackson
Walsworth Publishing Company

I would be happy to look up a date or specific person for you but, will have to limit the information I give out. My email:
pvanschoyckbrown@hotmail.com

This wonderful book is still available for purchase from Josef for $25.00.

Josef and I are distant relatives, our common anscestors are John and Margaret Bingham of Antrim, Ireland. We had not met until just recently when he stopped in at The Bingham Family group site.

Josef has done a very careful job of collecting pictures and stories from his line of the Bingham Family. He has given me permission to place a few of the pictures on our BINGHAM group site. Check them out the address is:

http://groups.msn.com/TheBinghamFamily

Hope to see you there,
Pat Brown

Calvin Bingham m. Elizabeth Weatherwax/Matherway

Calvin Bingham, b. Dec. 23, 1796 in Cornish, N. H. married Elizabeth Weatherwax or Elizabeth Matherway, according to the publication "The Bingham Family in the United States - Especially of the state of Connecticut." Calvin was the last son of Elias Bingham and Vashti Elderkin. The couple lived in Plattsburgh, NY before moving to Iowa. I have been unable to find any record of Elizabeth Weatherwax or Elizabeth Matherway. Even the LDS Family Search lists this woman with uncertainty about her surname, listing both possibilities.
I am asking for help finding this woman in any records and documenting her family background. Our family Bible has an entry from about 1930 stating that her surname was Weatherwax. I have also searched on the Weatherwax message board without success.

Bingham's in Michigan

I went to some cemetaries on Saturday and found the following Bingham's: Southern Cemetary (between Central Lake and Bellaire, Michigan): Louama C Bingham 1892-1962 and Frank L Bingham 1892-1979, Electa R Bingham, wife of W.L. Foot 1861-1935.

Lakeview Cemetary (Bellaire, Michigan): Priscilla Bingham 1855-1932. She was the only Bingham I found in the cemetary. Here stone had mother on it, so I assume she had children. She was buried next to some people with the last name of Hierlihy. I am not sure if that is correct spelling, my daughter was reading it for me.

If anyone recognizes any of these names, please contact me. The only Bingham I know is my gr grandmother Iva Irene (Bingham) Archer.

Bingham's in MO-1900's

This is my first visit to this site. Please respond if you have any info. My grandfather passed away when i was 6 years old in 1971. He was one of 6-7 Bingham brothers that used to drill water wells in southern Missouri in the early to mid-1900's. The only other info i have is that they all spread out to the surrounding states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Illinois. I know as i am sure you do that this is very little to go on, this is the reason i am asking for any info i can get. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Binghams from Kansas

I was at a flea market today (in California) and rescued an old picture (late 1800's?). It is a photo of three young women and two young men, all with dark hair. The back is marked "the Bingham children". The photographer name is imprinted on the front, "Loomis, Fredonia Kansas".
I asked the woman selling it where she got it and she said she found it in Lake Tahoe, CA.
If anyone things they can identify these people, please email me laurel0916@aol.com.

Thomas Bingham b. 1732 who md. Eleanor Luck

I have been working on my Bingham tree for so many years. However, I can't really seem to connect this Thomas. All the books seem to stop at him. He is the son of Thomas Bingham, b. 1692 who md. Hannah Edgerton and Sarah Huntington. I believe Thomas b. 1732 had also married someone else before Eleanor. Anyway, Thomas and Eleanor had a son named William, b. 1775 (who is my ggg grandfather) who md. an Elizabeth ?, Polly (who was an Indian woman) and Elizabeth Ponder. If anyone can help, please write me. Thanks.

Edmond BINGHAM III (b. abt 1839, IN, d. 1916, Ottawa Co, OK)

It has become apparent that Edmond BINGHAM III remarried after his wife, Elizabeth JOHNSTON, passed away in 1904. The 1910 Peoria, Ottawa Co, OK census lists Edmond wife his new wife, Mary. They have been married for 5 years and are each in their second marriage. Edmond is 72 years old.

Edmond & Mary are living next door to the household of Joseph & Nancy FANNIN. Living next door to Joseph & Nancy is a Jennings household. Nancy's maiden name is Jennings.

Mary, wife of Edmond, is likely Nancy's mother. It has been reported to me that "Mary BINGHAM" was Nancy's mother.

Does anyone have information on the second marriage of Edmond BINGHAM III?

Looking forward to exchanging information!
Michelle (Siler) Roux
aka: Mickey

Looking for Judah Emmaline(surname unknown) b. 1845 in Alabama married a Bingham born in Mo. They had a son John Bingham born around 1868 or before in Texas . She remarried in 1873 Grayson Co. Texas listed as a widow. Anyone knowing of a Bingham born in Missouri and died in Texas between 1868-1873. You probably have the key to who this Bingham was and Judah (Judy Emmaline) was. Please respond if any of this rings a bell. Thanks- Mona
