It's awful getting old your mind doesn't work like it did when you where young. I do know that my contact with them was alot of help for they had alot of info of our ggggrandparents way back, matter of fact one of our gggrandmother's was spanish.Well off to my research talk to you later.
Harold,
Glad to hear that the info Isent can be of some use. Did I mention that Ma's brother Patrick was a Juinor so her fahter's first name is Patrick. Ed Corbetts daughters are Louise, Helen, and Trudie they also lived in Dorchester. I beleive Grandpa Meehan died when living on Clayton Street. Also, Aunt Kitt lived over Ma and had the dog Poodles to which Ma took when she {Aunt Kitt} died on Orchidfield Street. I would like to ask you if you Know where Charlene is {Aunt Karen's daughter}. I also know that Grandpa's family are still in Halifax and they belong to the History Society. I received photo's from them of Gpa's parents and of where they are buried in the family plot. If I think of anything else or come across any more info I'll let you know. Thank's again Barbara

Dear Barbara, again, good to hear from you. This isall very interesting. What I have found our is that places like Ancestry.com can lead us astray and way off. At one point they were leading me to a Lord John Birkenhead (d.1930) whose real name was Smith and he was the MP (representative in the House of Commons)for the town of Birkenhead, Cheshire. Not a Birkenhead at all. Cheshire England seems to be the place where I found most of our relatives on both sides. The Birkenhead's where from Cheshire all the way back (eventually became Masons - Brick workers - as was Granpa) So far I found that they are easily searched but am stuck on grandpa's grandad Henry who from what I can gather was born in Birmingham, Cheshire England. I do have all that info on Nana and Grandpa and started to look into Nana's Bremner (Boutlier). Mom's side on her father's side was from Oswaldtwistle, a beautiful little town in Cheshire county England. He has abrother Thomas ans Sister Mary. I didn't actually know his date of death so you info is a great help. I do know he is buried with Aunt Lee's first husband at Mt Hope cemetery. I have spoken with Janet and she remembers as I'm sure you do how Aunt Lee and Mom dearly loved him and would weep whenever they spoke about him (he must have been a great guy). Anyhow, Ma's info is great I'll start to work on hers and will keep in touch with you. Funny how when I went to England I got this spookey feeling of being home, I felt very confortable and Oswaldtwistle is beautiful. Also funny that I'd become and Epicopal priest, Anglican or Church of England whic was Granpa's religious affiliation on both sides. Nana and Granpa were married in St. Pauls Anglican Church in Halifax. Mom's dad William was baptised in Immanuel Parish, Oswaldtwistle. It' amazing that if you go online to Oswaldtwistle you can go to baptisms and they go all the way back to the 1600. I'll keep in touch in what I find out... Love Harold

Harold,
What I know off hand is that mom's parents came from County Cork, Ireland. Mom's grandmother was Margaret Mary she had ma and Katherine {Aunt Kit, she had a son Paul out of wedlock}, a son Michael he married a Katherine and had a son Michael, they lived up the street from us on Dot Ave. Another son Patrick who his wife was Majororie. Mom's dad died around October 1940, Ma married a Edward Corbett who had 3 daughters {no relation to us} he died about 1952. As for the Birkenhead side, as I mentioned before I have been in contact with our cousins up in Canada to which I received alot of info there. I have spoke to the on the phone and they have sent me photo's of our great grandparents. Nanna used the name Boutlier for she was brought up by and aunt. Her middle name {as our cousins in Canada told me} was Emily not Edith. After, my preparing to deploy to Iraq in 2004-2005 I was not able to go further. Hope this info helps I am going to search some more and if you would like we can exchange info on what we find. Also, Shirley knows alot of info for she lived with ma when she was young. I got most of my info to start from her. Thanks again for the update. Take care Barbara

Dear Anne, I most recently have been in search of my ancesters and found that we are from the midlands, Cheshire, My Granfather William Birkenhead came over through Nova Scotia, Canada and he was a Mason. It seems that most of his relatives going back, his father William, Great Grandfather Henry (born in Cheshire)were all Masons from the same area. Very coincidental your family were masons. I am in search for futher information myself and would love to find roots in England. The other side of my family is from Oswaldtwistle. Everyone seemed to migrate around 1896. Saw pictures of Oswaldtwistle and wondered why any one would evr leave. I know this is babbling but thought it too coincidental... same area.. same name... same trade. Thank you for listening..
Barbara, Thanks so much. I'm reluctant to go onto Ancestry as Charleen Polonski (Aunt Karen's) gave me info that we both decided was a bit innacurate. Ancestry stated that Granpa Birkenhead's Grandfather was John De Birkenhead and it was not. This could lead anyone way off track. I got as far back as to the 16th century and (supposidly) a Sir John Birkenhead who was related and an editor to a Royalist newspaper (Mercurius Aurilus) under Charles l. He was imprisoned by Oliver Cromwell but managed to survive. I did wonder about Nana. In those days an Aunt or sister usually brought up the child if she where illegitamate or abandoned and the child would take on the sisters name.
One the Birkenhead side immediate family I got Grandpa and Nana, Nana parents were Jane Bremner and Jogn Boutlier. Granpa's parents were wIlliam James and Rebecca. All from Nova Scotia, Grandpa's Grandparents were Henry and Anna both from Birmingham England.. I haven't really researched Nana's too well but they are also from somewhere in England and resided in Lunenburg, Canada. Mom's side is very interesting and I have been recently researching this side and found Mom's Dad, William was from Oswaltwistle England and migrated in 1896 with a broher Thomas and sister Mary. He was married in Pawtucket Rhode Island to Mary Meehan (Ma) I haven't researched Ma's side very much but it looks as though they were Irish Roman Catholic which was quite a leap to marry an English Anglican in those days. If you could help with any info you would think may be helpful, I wold truly appreciate it. Love Harold

Harold,
Thank you for the family information. I had done some research years ago on the family tree. I did find out that Nana's last name was Bremmer for I have been in contact with our cousins in Canada. They also sent me old photos to which I sent a copy to Shirley. In, regards to Ma Meehan's family I found alot of info from Shirley whereas she lived with them when she was young.Nana's middle name is not Edith but Emily she was brought up by her aunt for her mother died after giving birth and her father could not take care of a newborn. As for the Davenport's I am aware of that info also from Shirley. Thank's again Barbara

Barbara,

I have done extensive search on our family from the time of Charles I. First the history is too extensive to put in one E-mail... But Grandpa was born November 13 1887 in Nova Scotia (no twin Clarence)Annie, Margaret and Florence were his sisters. His Parents.. our great greandparents were William and Rebecca, born May of 1853 and 1852.. from the area of Cheshire, Lanshire England. Nana Birkenhead was not a Boutlier, that a small town in Nova Scotia were she once resided. Her maiden name was "Bremner" born in 1890 at St. Margarets Bay to Joseph and Emily Bremner, both immigrants from England.
The most interesting part of the family is Mom's side. The Davenports or in England as recorded in Immanuel Parish in Oswaldtwistle, England. Devonport. Mom's dad William was born1882 and a brother Thomas born 1884 both were brought to the US by their parents Christopher and Alice Ellen Davenport. Grandpa met Ma Meehan in Pawtucket RI and they resiede together with Thomas and his Wife Mary and Ma meehan in Pawtucket and then in Boston.

I am trying to trace my Birkenhead ancestors who lived in Crowton and Weaverham areas of Cheshire.
My grandfather was Thomas William Birkenhead(Born 1888).
He married Annie Wardle(Born 1885)and the wedding was registered in March quarter 1913 at Runcorn.
He had three sons by her - Thomas, John and George Samuel who was born March 1919. She died either in childbirth with George or shortly afterwards.
Thomas William married again at the end of 1919 to
Mary E Fryer (or maybe Dryer). This wedding was registered in December quarter 1919 at Northwich. There may have been two sons by this marriage or maybe Mary Fryer had her sons when she married Thomas.
I would be very grateful for any information regarding Thomas or his father or mother or siblings or either of his wives.
Thank you

BIRKENHEAD - SURNAME

I am trying to trace my ancestors who came down to the Midlands from Cheshire in about 1796 to find work. They were George BIRKENHEAD and another who also came presumably at the same time, ( I do not know if they were brothers, cousins or no relation at all, was Richard BIRKENHEAD.)

GEORGE was born about 1773 and Richard about 1777. I believe they could have worked their passage to the Midlands via the canals.

GEORGE was a stone mason, and Richard was a builder.

Does anyone connected with the BIRKENHEAD name know of any relations or family who came down to the Midlands looking for work, or is there anyone who has BIRKENHEAD relations or ancestors in the Midlands.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Ann Ashwood.
The Richard Birkenhead I am trying to trace was born around 1777 somewhere in Cheshire. He came down to the Midlands about 1797 together with my GGGGGrand father George Birkenhead looking for work. Richard was a builder and George was a stonemason. Neither of them returned to Cheshire they both married, had their families and died in the Midlands. Richard married an Ann White and George married an Elizabeth Tipper. I don't know if George and Richard were brothers, cousins, or were not related and I have not been able to trace their Cheshire families.

I do not think the Richard you are looking for is one of my ancestors.

Ann, I seem to relate an Elizabeth Birkenhead babt. 1505
of Huxley, Cheshire. She is said daughter of Adam Birkenhead babt. 1462 Birkenhead, Cheshire and Alice Huxley. He was son of Henry B. of 1432... son of Henry B. of 1408.... son of Adam de Birkenhead of 1383... son of Roger de Birkenhead of 1343.
There must be some early history of that city that might explain the name and family ties, but I haven't looked until now.

Hope this is of some use.
Jerry

Yes I know there is a town in England named Birkenhead. But I'm looking for any information about the family Birkenhead. I am a Birkenhead and would like to receive any information about the family, that lived in England and moved to Canada then to the USA.

As I have no other information except what I wrote the first time, I have no idea if there was an Anne in the family, but I will keep your info on file as it might come in handy. If you hear any other news let me know ok.

Thanks again
Rosemary
Canada

Hi,
Does anyone have relatives with the Surname of Birkenhead?
My mum was best friends with a Lizzie birkenhead. Mum was born in 1913, and lived around Wesley Street for a while so I assume Lizzie was in the same area.

Any information would be greatly accepted.

TIA
Rosemary
Canada
