I am trying to find the relationship (if any) between Mary Jane Powell (b. 1812 and who married Wade Hampton Bishop) and Billy "Osceola" Powell. I have found some information that they were siblings or half-siblings. Other info doesn't list Mary Jane as a sibling at all. Parents of Mary Jane that I have found, are John William Powell and Polly Ann Coppinger which are the same parents listed for Billy "Osceola" Powell. Mary Jane Powell Bishop would be my 3rd Great Grandmother.

George A. (son of Capt. Nelson) Bishop, Rockland, Maine (1885)

I have no connection to this family, but found this while doing other research. This appeared in the Jan. 20, 1885 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette in the Folks and Things column:

“George A., son of Capt. Nelson Bishop, a lad about twelve years of age, was drowned in Chickawaukie pond, Wednesday afternoon. A party of boys were on the pond skating, Bishop being some distance from the others. One of the party saw him skate into a hole, which was just skimmed with ice, throw up his arms and disappear. The alarm was given and the boys skated to the spot, but nothing could be seen of the unfortunate lad, whose hat lay on the ice near the hole. Help was called, the body secured by means of grapples, and carried to a sled near by, but life was extinct. The funeral services were held Saturday at the family residence, Maverick street. A large number of sympathizing friends were present. The services were conducted by Rev. G.S. Hill. The lad was a bright, affectionate boy, and the family have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow.”
Looking for info on grandfather, Edward Bishop, orphan

Looking for information on my paternal grandfather. His name was Edward Bishop. He was supposedly born in Delaware in 1901. There is confustion as to which month. March, May or September. His mother died giving birth to him and his father was unable to raise him, so he was given up to an orphanage. No idea if this was done right away or at a later date. He did have 2 or 3 other brothers who were older. He might have been one of the Orphan Train children, as the story goes he was sent at some point to live on a farm. He was not treated well there and ran away at 14. The orphanage he was at supposedly burned down and there are no records. He joined the military at 14,after he ran away from the farm. He told them he was 18 and since there were no records, they could not check. I am finding a lot of information on Edward Bishop's, but with the lack of information, it's hard to know what might be correct. I think the key is that his mother died during childbirth and he was sent to an orphanage. Thanks!

Your post is from many years ago (2001), so you probably have already found the Bishop Family tree info. I am a decendent, my mom was a Bishop, her dad was Herman William Bishop, his dad was William Hanson Bishop, his dad was William Oliver Bishop.

I am stuck at Martha Golden, also recorded as Mariah Golden DOB 1830, married William Bishop 1856, and died 1863. My family believes her to be the mother of William Hanson Bishop, but I have been unable to determine.

Have you discovered any prior information for M. Golden's ancestors; and was Golden her maiden name?

Daniel and Melissa Millican Bishop are the right parents for Amanda Bishop. Another decendant of these Bishops gave that information to me that Amanda married Booker T. Campbell way back in 2000. Also, Daniel's brother Washington Bishop and his wife Julia Ann Matilda Millican also had a daughter Amanda Bishop born about 1860 and I still don't know who she married.

i am having a time with this family myself....

my g-grandfather Booker T. Campbell was suppose to have married his sec. wife, Amanda " Mandy " Bishop ,( DeKalb co. ) daughter of Daniel and Melissa Millican Bishop in 1892.

trying to connect Mandy with other Bishops in this area of Winston / Marion / Franklin county Al. has been a real headache...even got me to wondering if i indeed have the wrong Bishop line for her as i have found at least 2 other Bishop men ( Daniel's relatives )that also had daughters named Amanda...

Amanda Bishop Campbell was born 14 Nov. 1869 DeKalb Co. Al. , she had 7 children by Booker T......half-brothers and sisters to my maternal grandmother....

the reason i am looking into this is that she was the only grandmother my mom ever knew, mom called her " granny Campbell"....and mom said that she stayed at grannies more than she did at home which was just a few yards down the road....my mother's grandmother,Nancy Gilbreath Campbell, died in 1891, buried at Mt. Flat cem., Collinsville Al.....

my mom died in 1999, so i can't ask her about this but she kept a lot of family info to herself.

Hi Helen,I just realized that I had not posted a reply to your last email to me. I have seen nothing from a documentary standpoint that your Vachel and my Thomas of Anne Arundel are related. However, for noting, my Bishop family do have chn. named Greenberry as does yours. Wonder where that came from? A well known Greenberry family perhaps. Anyway, so far as I know my Bishop family were in a number of counties in KY, but Mercer was not one of them, not that I know of anyway. Do you have parents for Vachel & what county in MD did you find him? Judy Clark

Looking for any information or relative of the Bishop family all born in Portishead,Somerset between 1878 and 1888.
On my mom's maternal side we have Bishops from SC. I'm just starting to research this line. Rumor was the Bishops were deeded land from the Queen of England along either the Saluda River or Savannah River area in SC but eventually sold it.

I don't know much about him except he was married I believe he also had a child or his wife was pregnant, and was in the army. I have a few more detail, but would have to be sure I am talking to someone that knows him.

If this is the correct line, then Pierre Levesque entered the US in 1847 and married Lydia A Burns who was from "English Canada." She and Peter were my g-grandparents who had many children, one of whom was Lydia Ann Bishop,my grandmother. I have no idea when her mother, Lydia Burns, came to the US. She died in Kingman, ME in 1912.
I know something of Pierre's ancestry, and would be glad to share. I know nothing of Lydia A Burns' ancestry, and would appreciate info.

Hilda Maude Bishop
Hilda Maude Bishop

Surnames: Bishop

Hello Fellow Genealogists,
Can anyone help with this problem i have? Hilda Maud Bishop gave birth to a son in 1932 born 4 Kings Road, St Pancras, London.I have the birth certificate. No known father. Son was later adopted which i have all details. What i'm trying to find is Hilda Maud Bishops age in 1932, and her parents name.I've established that 4 Kings Road was in fact St Pancras Workhouse up to 1930.Then change to St Pancras Hospital. On Ancestry St Pancras workhouse records stop at 1931.I've written to both London Met Archives and Camden and Islington Hospital Trust N H S to see if they have details of births for 1932.No reply as yet. Another point is that Hilda Maud Bishop gave her address as 4, Patshull Road,i've checked years 1930, 1931, 1932 and theres no-one by the name of Bishop living at this address. I have just purchased the Kellys London directory 1933 to search for H.M. Bishop but no luck there.? Any help greatfully received. Thanks

Hi Bill...

I am still doing research would love to hear from you regarding the Bishop's...

I agree ... I don't think our Bishop's are from The English John Bishop...
A cousin of ours... I spoke to him years back... Reg Bishop of Picton,Ontario... He said that he had a professional Genealogist...A Mr. Gordon Crouse I believe.. He did some research...He stated that James Bishop Sr... was Irish and was born in Ireland... He first bought land in Quebec...then in Sophiasburgh, Ontario...

My email is gforsythroots@hotmail.com
Happy Hunting Cousin Gail....
