I realise it's nearly five years since you posted this, but i have only just seen it! Philip Bithell was my great uncle - the brother of my grandmother Emma Jones, nee Bithell. I do have some information on him, but guess you've probably found out lots by now!! I'm fairly sure it's the same person.

Dan, It is I, Cheryl, Hallie's other granddaughter! I posted the inquiry and you have replied to me. I should have figured out "dancmesa" earlier. Anyway, we are back to square one. Thanks for the reply! I am still trying to research all possible spellings for Bitdell since it absolutely does not exisit in the past

Hallie "Bitdell" Thomason was my wife's grandmother. This name was listed on the 1900 census as living in Alabama with her father Robert P Thomason and siblings, with Robert listed as a widower. She attended Peabody College under the name Hallie Bitdell and graduated in 1896.

Does any of this sound like your grandmother's background? If so, we would be interested in any further information you might have.

I'm interested in a Mary Alice (May) Bithell who married Arthur Hodgkiss, mother of Evelyne. Her birthdate was about 1876 possibly daughter of William & Abigail although also possibly James & Margaret. I think she was my mother's Aunt.

Sorry, I'm not able to be of assistance with the origins of the name, As indicated my interest is in the Rigby connection, more than the name itself. Maybe someone of the Bithell family here can help more.

My grandmother, born in Alabama in 1874, was an orphan and
used the maiden name Bitdell. She claimed it was her
mother's surname. That spelling does not exist anywhere in the USA or in England. The closest I come to that spelling is Bithell. An English record indicates that an Emma Bithell could have been her mother. Although I cannot answer your question, would you perhaps have some
insight for me re: various spellings on this surname?

I am looking for information on John Lloyd Bithell and Mary [nee Rigby]. One of their children (assuming he was not an only child) Thomas born in Cheshire c1840, came to Australia and married Annie Monach in Victoria in 1882. I am particularly interested in who the parents of Mary Rigby were.

Hi,

I am looking to find the baptism of John Bithell. I have the marriage record of him marrying Sarah Morgan on 23 May 1697 at Eccleshall, Staffordshire. One year later they had their 1st of three children in Seabridge, Staffordshire (about 10 miles from Eccleshall). I have no idea where or when he was baptised but i have searched the nearby parish records and can't find his baptism. Can anyone please help??

Bithells Hawarden Flintshire

Looking To Trace family History, Have traced back to John Bithell c1791 Hope Flintshire Married to Charlotte ??
These had 4 Children John(c1833), Mary(c1833), Elizabeth(c1826), Samuel(c1826).
John Married Hannah Turner who produced 11 children. Walter Bithell(1874) was one of them, he was my Great Grandad.
Any info to make my Family tree bigger would be much appreciated. My family now live in Chester, however my youngest brother lives in Hawarden (must be in the genes to return).

If it's any help we had a John Bithell from Chester born c1779 in Chester who married into our family. His wife's maiden name is unknown but she was previously married to someone with the surname Patterson. To my knowledge they had no children of their own so probably no lineage from him but at least a full stop for you if that helps!!

If you have any information in relation to John Bithell I would be interested to share trees etc

I have by way of my Rigby research come across two brothers in Victoria, Australia, they being the sons of John Lloyd & Mary [Rigby] Bithell: -
Thomas born circa 1840 and John Lloyd born circa 1841. Thomas married in 1882 Annie Monach they lived in the Ballarat area and had a family of ten. John married in 1867 Charlotte Burness they lived in the Castlmaine area and had a family of eleven.I am looking for more information on John & Mary and any other siblings. Of course am more than happy to exchange information.

I have just read post concerning the Bithell's of Hindley.
I am trying to find Richard Bithell (weaver) who married Elizabeth (nee Lucas) in approx. 1829. (All Saints)?

They had about seven children, the youngest child was Alice,- she was my g. grandmother.

Possibly not the same family, but heres hoping!

1891 The census was held on April 5th. John Bithell (age 41, master mariner, born Chester) was head of the household at 9, Shipgate Street, Chester. Also listed are his wife, Kate E. (age 40, born Bristol), his son William H. (age 18, stoker on steamboat, born Chester), son Charles F. (age 15, boatman, born Chester), daughter Kate (age 5, born Chester), son John (age 4, born Chester) and daughter Gertrude B. (age 1, born Chester).

It looks as though you are interested in another John Bithell.

I see that you show John Bithell b.1851 to be your great grandfather. I believe that he would be my great great grandfather. Can you tell me if John had a son Joseph who moved to Pittsburgh, PA. He would have had a son Wilson Arthur Bithell? I am new to this so sorry if I am asking too many questions. Thanks.

I thought Thomas the son might be the father to your Thomas - especially since the occupation is pilot.

I have an Elizabeth Bithwell m. Joseph Eccleston 30 July 1850 in Wigan. The marr. certificate shows her age 22 (abt. 1828), spinster, residence Wigan and father Thomas Bithwell, stonemason.

One witness is Rebecca Bithwell.

I have been unable to find a place or date of birth, or names of parents.

Thomas Bithell had the following siblings:
William b.1846; John b.1851 (my great grandfather); Ann b.1854; Harriett b.1858; Henry b.1861; Alfred b.1863.
Their parents were William Bithell (1822-1884) and Ann Worrall. Williams father was Richard Bithell.
I am interested in any details for Richard, or prior family.

My grand father is doing research in Bithell in Chester as well. He tells me Fred Bithell and his wife Hendrika Jacoba Vleugels (our ancestor) moved to Bithell in 1911 with their daughter May Bithell. Mary was born in Rotterdam in 1910.

Is this a related Bithell family? And if so, could you help my grand father in his research?

Main one is Thomas Bithell S/O William.
Thomas aged 21 married Elizabeth Jenkins 13/12/1873 in Wakefield.( Elizabeth was from Yorkshire )
Daughter Margaret married John Edwards 22/3/1897.
John & Margaret are my G Grandparents.
Bithells were from Chester. William was a sailor & Thomas a fisherman.
Any info you have on Thomas or his family appreciated.

Dear Edwin i think we might have the same Ernest Bithell.Send me your current e-mail as I have tried the one listed here and it keeps sending it back. My Ernest was born the same date as yours in Liverpool, and then "dissapeared" until we found him in stockport getting married in1906. He was illigitimate so possibly could have been in an orphanage

resulted in me receiving my grand father's
Canadian Military records.
Ernest Bithell b 2 Feb 1883 West Derby Lanc.
married in Ottawa Canada to Emily Sharland
b 18 Apr 1884.I am just now
beginning to attempt to trace my grand
