Merrell and Homer were my grandmother's brothers. It probably also mentioned Theressa Hunt, my grandmother (or Mrs. Frank Hunt).

Daniel and Mary Blackford had the following children:
William (married Lyda Bartram)
Sarah (aka Sadie?)
Mary Ellen
David Price
Hannah (my ggrandmother m. William James McCowin)
John
Margeret Malissa (married a Pierce)
Phoebe Ann (married George Berresford)
Catherine Lucinda (married John Thomas Berresford)
I have more information, but don't have time right now to put it in here. I believe that Daniel's parents are Joseph and Mildred, but I have no proof.

I have pictures of the headstones of some of the children, along with Daniel and Mary.

Susan

I have this from a posting years ago on Genealogy.com
http://genforum.genealogy.com/vale/messages/145.html
Good Luck!

Seeking information about John Blackford, born about 1810 in York Co., PA, Who married Susannah Vale on 15 January 1835 in York Co. He was a son of Joseph Blackford and Elizabeth Gattetson. Warrington Quaker records for the area indicate Susannah "having moved their church membership to Columbiana, Ohio",in August 1935. I am of the opinion, but not sure, that they later moved to Iowa. Their children: Christiana...Arminata, who married Thomas Beaumont ...Robert, who died in the army...and Frances.

I have info on Joseph & Elizabeth's family and will share with interested researchers.

Thaks for your help.

William Blackford

Is there any note regarding the religon of the Blackfords? I have been running into a stone wall regarding an Emily Blackford (B 1812 Philadelphia, d 1898 Columbia, Lancaster Co., PA) who married John Zell Broome. There are some notes and family lore that she was a Quaker.

Her first born son was named Joseph Blackford Broome and my understanding is that in that era it was customary to name the first son after the mother's father. If that is the case then her father may have been named Joseph. Slim thread but the only one I have.

Thanks so much for taking a look! I will follow your suggestions.

I'm beginning to think that JF Blackford + Liddy Harvard were the parents. Liddy must have died young, and then JF remarried Gurtrude. Anna must have been Gertrude's step daughter.

I guess I'm just thinking (typing?) out loud here. Thanks for your help!
Many times women used their middle names as first names - try looking for the right last name and date, then see if the middle name is anna.
None of your Blackfords match mine. Mine are all from the PA/OHIO line: Beaver County, PA and Columbiana Co. OHIO. One possibly came from Fayette Co. PA, but the counties changes lines alot!
Good luck to you!

Anna Clancy Blackford's Parents

My Great Grandma is Anna Clancy (that is her married name). I found her marriage certificate, and her parents are listed as JF Blackford and Liddy Harvard. So, I figure that Blackford must be her maiden name.
http://tinyurl.com/44ss9j9

However when I look up Anna Blackford, I only find one Census. Her mother is listed as Gertrude (Gurtie) Blackford, and her step-father is listed as John Frank Blackford. Anna was born a few years before Gertrude and John were married - when Gertrude was about 14 years old!
http://tinyurl.com/3sdhptz

From Baptism records, of other children, it looks like Gertrude's maiden name is McClelland. Family oral history dictates that this branch is Pennsylvania Dutch.

So, the question is: Who is Anna Clancy's Mom? Liddy Harvard or Gertrude McClelland? If Liddy, what happened to her? If Gertrude, who was the original father and why was she pregnant at such a young age?

Any help will be appreciated! ~Rene

I realize all of these postings are extremely old, and I might be a bit off the mark here, but my grandfather was a John A. Blackford and his father before him. Unfortunately, I don't know about before that, but perhaps there's some connection? Anyway, I would suggest looking up Ferry Hill Plantation, also known as Blackford's Ford. John kept a journal, and it's posted online to be read if you search well enough.

Hi Rod:
My mom is Doris R. Blackford Yazalina, youngest daughter of William Bledsoe Blackford. Same direct line as you started in your message, but on into Kentucky, with relatives on both sides of the civil war, and, as you know, many early, precolonial ndian wars, and American Revolution. Our line involved two other important precolonial Scottish families back to 1600/1500's here in US: the Duncan's and the Bledsoe's. Actually, I see two Duncan's and two Blackford's
that married the two families together in our direct path back to "Samuel, Nicholas, John , and john, son of John.... Still not perfect on my tree, but getting there.
"

I am searching, for many years, without much luck for John H.P.G. Blackford. He is my 3rd great grandfather. What I do know is he was born in England, abt. 1820. He went to St. Helena Island in the Atlantic Ocean. He was married there by 1844 to Emma Jane Moss. They had 6 children and came to Boston on 4 Aug 1854. In 1860, Emma is listed in Illinois as a widow with her children.I would love to find John's death date and burial info.In Emma's obit in 1910, it said her husband was a British Army office. I can find no proof of that info tho.The East India Company do not have any records of him.Any ideas?

Hello my name is Dawn Pierce. Looking for information on my grandmother Named Bertha Sweeney born 12/10/1909 England, she left her marriage and four children in 1935. In 1936 i found a marriage between Aurthur F Ross and Bertha M Sweeney. I believe she may have changed her name to Margaret as she was leaving her past life behind. Would like to know any information you have on your Margaret Sweeney or if you think its possible they could be the same person. The children from first marriage also have a lord and lady Blackford as their God parents.
Would appreciate anything, Its always been a family mystery what happened to her and where she went.
thank you

I saw it in the 1980's but it wasn't there last month! I did get a copy of the people buried there online from the East Palestine Library. I will send it as soon as I can. I do think Joseph Blackford is his father according to death records that I have at my tree. I will send you a link to the tree, too.
Daniel's pension records are not electronic - they are hard copy. There isn't alot of information in them. Just basically his doctor visits and trying to get a pension that he was turned down for many times. Apparently he was unable to proved that his injuries were suffered in the war. When I get a chance, I will scan them in and send them to you. You can send me your email address through ancestry messages.

I just sent you a message about the trees and Daniel's parents. Beware what you accept as truth - check to see if there is any supporting documentation.

I will find the pictures and send them to you. I had a computer crash not too long ago and need to find them. If I don't, I will get out to Achortown and take some new ones. Are there any other pictures that you need from that cemetery?

We are getting ready to go out of town next week and will be gone until after the 4th of July, but I will get you everything when I can.

Susan

I have a few theories as to his ancestry, but nothing definite. I do have his Civil War pension file, which gives no clues. He is buried in Achortown Baptist Cemetery, but I have been unable to find who has the cemetery recrods. The cousin who pointed this out to me asked why Francis Lucas was named as a guardian. BTW, the Lucas were from Raritan, NJ, moved to Washington Co., PA, then to Mason Co., KY and finally to Warren Co., OH. Thomas Lucas and son Franicis Lucas were in Clear Creek Township. Through previous posts, this was also the route of the Blackford's.

Any insight to the relationship of the Lucas & Blackford families? Simply neighbors or family tie-in?
Daniel married Mary Warrick.
Their daughters Phobeo and Catherine married Berresford brothers from Derbyshire, England and spent their lives in Beaver County, PA/Columbiana County, OHIO, coal businesses.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I am researching Blackfords, mainly my GG Grandfather John Blackford PA/OH/CA. His wife was Mariah or Mary Barrie. I believe his first wife was Susannah Vale. She died young (35sh) after having 4 children. Mariah and John also had 4 children one being my Great Grandfather Price Blackford. I am trying to confirm the Blackford/Garretson line. I have most everyone from John on down but need help backwards. I connected Susannah Vale with my John in a couple of ways mainly that they had a son names Robert and a Robert died by an electrical storm while in the service and he was the son of a John Blackford from Grass Valley CA which is where my Great Grandfather was born and where his father John resided until he committed suicide.

Harriet Blackford McCreary (and Garretson connection)

Here is my line, starting with my g-grandmother.

Eleanor Long m. Max Shreve
-Elizabeth Ruhl m. Howard Long
--Julia McCreary m. Jesse Ruhl
---Samuel McCreary m. Harriet Blackford

I just want to verify my line with people who may have more information.

Now, Harriet's line:
Harriet Blackford m. Samuel McCreary
-Aaron G. Blackford m. Christiana Millard
--Joseph Blackford m. Elizabeth Garretson

And the Garretson's also appear on Samuel McCreary's side:
Samuel McCreary m. Harriet Blackford
-John McCreary m. Julia Lease
--Thomas McCreary m. Mary Garretson

Am I correct in assuming that Mary and Elizabeth are both daughters to William Garretson m. Mary Frazier?

Any input and corrections are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Carolyn!

Your gg-grandfather, Ephriam was born in Alfred, Me. His parents were John(III) and Celia (Jones) Wormwood. Celia was the daughter of Bartholomew & Christiana (Gay) Jones. And John's parents were John (II)and Catherine (Cousins) Wormwood. John (III) was first wife was Sarah Harris and Celia Jones's first husband was Ephriam Ricker. John (ILI) and Celia had 5 children, two of whom appear to have died young....the others Ephriam, Thomas (who removed to Boston) and Celia G.

John (II)'s parents were John and Bethiah (Rankin) Wormwood they came from Wells, where all their children's baptisims are on record. They relocated to Alfred.

I hope this helps!
Laurie
