Thank you for that interesting information. My relatives of the name Blaine were originally from Scotland which prompted me to learn to play the bagpipes 16 years ago. I heard that the name Blane may of originated in DunBlane, Scotland, and that Blaine is from MacBlaine, meaning followers of Blaan who was an Irish saint who converted the Scottish Picts of Dunblane.

CHARLES OSCAR BLAINE IN MICHIGAN

Charles Oscar Blaine married my grandfather's sister, Lizzie Irene Meddaugh. According to her death certificate, she had 5 children, 2 of whom lived. I have baby pictures (large) of 2 babies, and on the back of one, the name 'Chas. Blaine' is written. I'd like to know what happened to her 2 living children, but don't even know if they are male or female, or when they were born. Charles and Lizzie were married 17 Aug 1893 in AuSable, Iosco, Michigan. They moved to Alpena later, and there, she died after weeks of illness with Bright's disease. He married again in Grayling a year later, to Estella Wells. I lost them after that. These 2 are Meddaugh descendants, and I'd like to find them again.

Re: James G. Blaine

Hello my name is Michell Blain. I have been trying to do research on how I'm related to James G. Blaine. My grandfather told me many years ago that he was related to his father. I'm not sure how if he was a cousin or something. My Grandfathers name is John H. Blain 1918-2006 My grandfather had brothers but I don't know any of their names except for one Russell Blain. My brother is named after him. I never met Russell nor any of my grandfathers brothers from what I was told they died young. I think My grandfather said he had 5 brothers and 4 lived. I'm not sure when My uncle Russell died. My grandfather told me his dad took the "e" off the end of his last name so that he would the separate him self from all the other "Blaine's" in the world...

I've tried to ask my father for information on our family history and names and stuff but my dad has a hard time remembering. My grandmother is so old and can't remember hardly anything any more. I know my Grandfathers dad name was John Blain. It's hard to look for things when you have so little information. My grandmother still lives in Quincy Washington Grant County I know my Uncle Russell was around that area too.

** thank you to anyone who sees this and can maybe fill me in on anything they know!! thank you!!**

Hello Rial,

I don't know whether you got your answers on this thread, but here is some information that may help: My maternal grandmother was Minnie Muriel (Blaine) Zornes. She was born in Athol, Idaho in 1904. Her father, Edward Baker Blaine, was born in 1861 in Linn County, Oregon. He and his family moved to Spokane County in the mid-1870s. He died in 1905 in a logging accident in Rathdrum. He was married to Nellie Sarah (Sanders) Downing. Along with Minnie, their children included Henry Hurley (1892-1946), Edna Marie (1895-1973), Maude Lillian (1897-1927) and Harry Hershel (1900-1961). Do you suppose this is your grandfather? Nellie Sarah later married William Luther Northway. They lived in Garwood, just north of you, and had three more children. By the way, I've gone back four more generations and can't find another relative named Harry. I'm in Spokane. davepfow@hotmail.com

In my mother’s Blaine family, they changed from Blain to Blaine, because there was a family down the road who’s name was Blair and in script the two names were always being confused, so they added an “e” the end of their name. Thanks to my Uncle for telling me. I was having a difficult time not knowing of the change. Looking for any relations to help with this line.

Thank you for trying to help, cousin. Actually, in the 1920 census James and Margaret are living in the Sultan River Precinct in Snohomish County, WA.
They moved from Macon Co., NC to WA in about 1911. Their daughter, Lydia, was my grandmother. James and Margaret and some of the family are enumerated in Ellijay, Macon Co., NC in 1910 and Lydia was married in Snohomish Co., WA in 1912... so 1911 is a very close approximation of when they left NC.
Which one of their children was your grandparent? (If you don't mind my asking?)

I am related to James Gillespie Blaine but a little confused about the relationship. According to my family history he was a first cousin of my grandmother, Mary McGinty Jones, daughter of Katherine McCrudden, whose mother was a Gillespie. Katherine came over from Donegal in the 1870s with her sister Bridget who I thought was the mother of James G. Blaine. You can see my confusion. However, since we are descended from the Gillespies as he was we are undoubtedly connected in some fashion. If you know the town in Donegal where the Gillespies lived I'd appreciate learning of it.

James G. Blaine, the statesman, was supposedly the first cousin of my grandmother, Mary McGinty Jones, the daughter of Katherine McCrudden of County Donegal, Ireland. Her mother was a Gillespie (Blaine's "G" stands for Gillespie.) If you have any information on the McCruddens or Gillespies of Donegal do let me know.

Hello Kenn. I know your post was a very long time ago, and I am hoping you are still researching! I am also trying to piece together my birth mother's family, who happen to have the surname Blaine. My mother's name is Joyce Audrey Blaine, she was apparently born in Ipswich, Qld in 1932 and is currently living in a suburb of Brisbane, Qld. Her religion was listed as Methodist. I was born in 1956 in Sydney, Australia and given up for adoption at birth. She gave birth to 2 children following me - a son John in 1958 who lived 1 day and a daughter Betty in 1960 who was premature and lived 10 minutes, both born in Brisbane, Qld. We all suffered varying degrees of RH incompatibility - mine requiring transfusion at birth - thankfully I survived! She married Laurence Keith Fowler in 1962 in Coorparoo, Qld. I have had contact with her on two occasions over the past few years and am intending to make contact again shortly. She has been reluctant to date to agree to seeing me, but I am hoping that at some stage she might change her mind! In the meantime, I would be delighted to try and piece together any information on the Blaine family who may be related to Joyce. It is very important I have documentable medical history for me and my children, which I haven't been able to secure to date. I would also like to make contact with any of her relatives. Many thanks, Vicki

Hi...Abraham Blane was my great grandfather. At some point in time he lived in Jamaica. However he originally came from the country of Austria. On Feb 14, 1912 Abraham came to America on a ship called the Olympic he departed from Southampton, England and landed in America on Ellis Island.
My great Uncle Gene has a nice picture of Abraham Blaine... Abraham was his father. My grandmother Ellen Robinson-Blane was Eugene Blane’s younger sister. Ellen had a twin named Eleanor that we called Elnora. Abraham Blane was married to my great grandmother Elizabeth Bell. Their children were Charlie, Ellen (my grandmother), Eleanor her twin who was married to Uncle Albert, Minnie, and Eugene (my great uncle). Eugene Robison who is called Pop is my father. I can help you get Abraham’s Ellis Island Immigration papers if you’d like.
Do you know if Uncle Gene still has the picture of Abraham Blane? I would love to have a copy. I have a video tape of the picture but I don’t have a copy. Well have a blessed day or night and always let peace fill your life. If you see Uncle Gene tell him Pop’s daughter says hi and sends him best wishes.
I’ll be looking forward to your reply Thanks

My name is Vicki. I was born on 27 June 1956 at the Women's Hospital, Crown Street, Sydney to Joyce Audrey Blaine and given up for adoption. Records indicate that Joyce's place of birth was Ipswich, Qld. She was 24 years of age when I was born. At the time of my birth she resided in Sydney with Mrs Lloyd, Laurel Avenue, Turramurra. She returned to Queensland following my adoption (listed address provided by Births Deaths & Marriages puts Joyce's place of residence at time of marriage as 317 Vulture Street, South Brisbane, although hospital records indicate the number as 539). She married Laurence Keith Fowler at Coorparoo, Qld on 22 December 1962. Her religion was listed as Methodist, and hospital records indicate that the information given by her was that her parents were deceased and she had no siblings. If there are any Blaine's who might be related to Joyce, or know of her in any capacity, I would be delighted to hear from you. Many thanks.

Hi. My name is Denis Graham. We corresponded a few years back but then lost touch. I'm a descendant of the same William Blain(e) you are talking about by his first wife, Bethena Teter. They had a daughter, Damaris, who was my great-grandmother. Her daughter, Anna was my grandmother. Damaris and Robert were half-siblings.

My family line is aware that we are related to James G. Blaine but we don't have any information as to how this is so. Your post provided some information. However, if you have any more information that would help me firm up the family line so that I would know for sure how James G. Blaine is a second cousin to Robert (and thereby also to Damaris), it would be greatly appreciated if you could share it.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

The information about the Mary Blain Bible you have is consistent with the bacjground of the Mary Blaine in my family. She was my great grandfather's sister. She was born in Feb. of 1834 in Kingscourt, County Cavan, Ireland to Patrick McEntee and Eana Hand. During the famine the family moved to Scotland. In 1856 or 57 her parents and 4 younger siblings moved to Covington, Kentucky. There is a marriage record for a brother in 1857 in Covington, In1866 or 1867 Mary and her husband, James Blaine and a son named James, came to Covington. At least one daughter was born here. At some point probably before 1870, the Blaine family moved to Grant Parish, Louisiana. There are a very large number of descendants of Mary's 3 daughters, mainly in the southern US.

The fact that the Bible was printed in Scotland and dated in 1839 matches our family history. I've visited some of my Louisiana cousins and have learned that James Blaine was quite opposed to the Catholic church. Most of the McEntee's have remained Catholic. The Blaines became members of the Baptist Church in Louisiana. Possibly they were Presbyterian originally since they cane from Scotland.

Beyond the information on Mary's parents I have only probable birth years for her parents,Patrick, 1805 and Eana, 1803. Both died in Covington and are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY.

Tom McEntee

This may be of sheer coincidence, however i have a bible from the year of 1839, with the name Mary Blain written in it in cursive in the back, as well as in a decorative caligraphy in the front.
My uncle gave it to me and said it has been passed on through the family... I don't know much else about it other than that the first page says "The HOLY BIBLE " containing the old and new testiments
Translated out of the original tounges
and with the former translations diligently compared and revised by his majesty's special command
Appointed to be read in churches
EDINBURG: Printed by: Sir D. Hunter & M. Tyndall Bruce
Printers for the Queen's most excellent Majesty
1839
SECOND PAGE Saying:
To the most high and mighty prince
JAMES,
by the grace of god King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland
Defender of the faith.

Like i said it may be coincidence that the names are exactly the same, but i would love if you may have any information on the further ancestry of this MARY BLAIN, as i am curious if it is one of my relatives, or if this bible was some how obtained somewhere.
