George Irving Blake was my great grandfather. He married Abbie D Varnum. She was born April 1 1871. They had 7 children with Laura Blake Counasse being my grandmother who passed away in July 2010. I believe my mom (Laura's daughter) said that they both lived with Laura late in their lives until they died. Not sure if it was both or just Abbie.

Scott, thank you for responding. I don't know if I have a photo of John's marker (if he even has one left) I have Wiley and Fannie Blake's marker photos and Emmaline's. You can look on Richwood Cemetery, Greene County - Roodhouse, IL on the net - and print off any that you find and want. Also, you can check the census sheets if you haven't already done that. How can I see what info you already have? Do you have a tree posted? May I compare names and dates? Thanks, Peggy

Thank you. Interesting. I have some information about our family dating back to 1801. In this story there is a qoute from Woodrow Blake, qouting his Grandfather Taylor, " all of the James blake people left in a covered wagon and went to Illinois. I live in South Florida now. My Father Floyd Blake was the son of David A. Blake, David A. Blake was born in 1901 and passed away in 1981. I have much information, really interesting. Can you please send me a photo of the Grave site ? Thank you.

Scott

We may be related, I am a decendent of Samuel Blake, who was also related to Isham, John and James. this is very confusing though because I am now in possesion of the Blakes dating back to 1801 and there are so many names, much of this story revoles around land ownership and such,, many blakes have spun off, also related names such as Wincey Thompson and many more. My Granfathers name was David Blake, I am a Blake myself.

Hi Charlotte,
I am so excited to hear from you! I have a lot of family information posted on Blake family tree and a photo of Charlotte's brother, Frederick Blake (my grandfather). I also just copied documents of family member's death certificates and marriage certificates so please check our family tree. I know that what I just posted probably sounded weird but its something that I wanted others to have. I live in Somers Point, N.J. about 12 miles south of Atlantic City. I want so much to go to the cemetery so that I can see where they are buried (and yes, take pictures of headstones)but am trying to talk my husband into taking me. I am 54 years old and I have a great deal of informationt that I would be glad to share with you. Yes, I would love to have a copy of your grandfather, Arthur. My email address is SPFD410@comcast.net and I do check in at least daily with ancestry.com. Do you still live in the Jersey City area? You have made my day! Thank you, Bonnie Phillips

Bonnie, hello! I just happened to find your post re my paternal grandmother, Charlotte Elizabeth Blake Bransky. As you can see, I happened to be named for her, Charlotte Elizabeth. She died before I was born, so I never knew her. I do know my mother loved her very much. I learned I was named for my grandmother when we lived on Neptune Avenue in Jersey City, NJ, and I passed by Bayview Cemetary fairly often. One day I happened to notice MY name on a monument. VERY scary stuff when you're just a kid LOL. Didn't know what it meant -- I was dead? I was going to die soon? I've never seen a photo of my grandmother, though I've been told I favor her. That's one of my fondest wishes, to have a photograph of her. I did meet Olga and Kenny when I was a kid, they had a daughter Carla (I believe) close to my age. I never knew I had an Uncle Robert or Eugene. This has really been a very emotional day. I still can't believe someone posted on here who knew her. Any more information you would be willing to share, I would love to know it. Both of my grandmother died before I was born. I did see one photo of my maternal grandmother but I know I didn't resemble her very much. Think I might have favored my father's side. Anyway, thank you for posting and I do hope I'll hear from you. Forgot to say my father was Charlotte's son, Arthur. I have photos of him if you would like copies. charlotte bransky
I sent you a private email. I hope it connects you with the Blake Family Tree I found on Ancestry. It fits everything you say here about him. The owner of this tree shows they haven't been on line in over a year working on this tree. So hope they are able to answer. I sent them your email also
Good Luck
Helene Hunt

How embarrassing to have posted such a vague query! Thank you for replying, Carol Ann.

William BLAKE (bef 1740 - abt 1801) m 1761 Mary WOGLOM
+ Jane Poillon BLAKE (1769-1834) m. Vincent BODINE (1766-1822)

And then I daughter out.

My curiosity relates to William's origins. I suspect his brother was Edward BLAKE Sr. who d. abt 1803 and m. 1764 Elizabeth Houseman. I have no hint of William prior to the marriage, nor of parents.

My Blakes were constantly reusing names.

I did collect Blakes in Staten Island, but think I stopped before 1900.

Thanks!
Janet
Old Blake Photo rescued

I have rescued an old Blake photo. This small photo is identified on the back as a Hamline Blake, Sidney, OH. From his attire, it appears this photo was taken, perhaps, in the 1870's or 1880's. It is 4X 2 1/2 inches and is a "bodice" photo of this man. It is in excellent condition with absolutely no damage. His given name "appears" to be Hamline, but it could be something a little different. If you are interested in this photo, please contact me at: jmje36@embarqmail.com

Thank you, Judy

Dean:
You may already have info for Oliver Blake. I found his name in the New Hampton Village Cemetery listing, Belknap Co, NH. Confirmed some info by NH birth/death records. On cem. listing, his name is shown as "Capt. Oliver Blake, d. 16 Dec. 1889, age 81 yrs." His wife, Salome J. is also bur. by him. His parents were John B. Blake and Polly Maxfield, married 04 March 1802, at Loudon, N.H. (NH marriage records). Polly is bur in this cemetery, and her death was 11 July 1856, age 76yrs; beside her name it says "w/JBB." I didn't find this John bur. there; however, he could be and just not on this list. However, Oliver's brother, John Blake, b. 15 Nov. 1805, d. 1882, (date and parent's names from NH Birth records, saying he was b. at Pittsfield, Merrimack Co. NH) is here. There are about 24-25 Blake names in this cemetery and now listed on the site, "FindaGrave".

Your post got me to searching!!! I found the picture of the woman and child with the names on the picture being Aunt Bert and Walter Blake. Walter appears to be about 3 years old. And I found the letter signed Wagoner Walter G. Blake, 165 Field Hospital, 117 San. Trair(?) AEF A.P.O. 716.
It states in the letter that he is still in Germany. This may not be the same Walter Blake in the obit, but I noticed he had a daughter named Marie. In this letter he talks about his cousin Marie dying in 1918 during the flu epidemic. Marie was my aunt. I continue to look for information about Walter.

WV archives lists his birth in 1895. I have his mother's name from our family history - she was my great-aunt and I have a letter from him addressed to his grandmother, my great grandmother. No, his obit only listed wife and children. Could be we are talking about two different people. Your Blake must not be a part of my Blake family history. Did you read his military enlistment - his birthdate as 1895 and his birth place as Charles Town, WV?

You have his parents living with grandparents in 1900 but he is not listed on census. The Walter G. that I found on 1900 census was living with parents and 7 siblings. His father was named William, not Charles. We are talking about 2 different people. Also, in 1930, I found 2 different Walters; one was single, living with sister named Esta and her husband in WV. The other Walter was b. 1899 in WV and living in Washington, DC with wife and children.
The Walter who was b. 1895 and who lived with sister and her family in 1930in WV. was the son of Rebecca J. On the 1920 census, her name is listed as Becky Jane. Is it posssible that someone misread Becky as Bertie?
Where did you get the info on his birthdate and his mother's name? Didn't his obituary mention his parents' and siblings' names?

Sorry to reply so many times, but I keep thinking of things I've forgotten to say!!! In the 1900 census, Walter's parents are living with her mother and father, Clara and William Earnshaw in Charles Town, WV. Walter is not mentioned on the census. I know he didn't die as an infant because I have a copy of his letter sent to my grandmother from overseas during WWI. I also have a picture of Walter, as a baby, and his mother.
