I am tracking these two also. My great grandmother is Emily Charlotte Blandford born in 1865 in London. Came to American in 1869. I know nothing about her parents. When I researched her birth certificate there was only one with her name, location and birth year. Her parents were Morgan Dove Blandford and Annie Marie Gaze or Gare. Then I tried to go back in time but there are quite a few Morgan Dove Blandord.

Emily married my great grandfather Moses Ewing in 1885. They had 7 children and one died in childhood. My grandfather Alex was the oldest. My great grandfather grew up in Philadelphia. He raised his family in Chester PA and Swarthmore PA, where my father grew up.

Can you help?

I have my great grandmother being born on July 15, 1865 in Holborn England. Her father is Morgan Dove Blandford and mother Annie Maria Gare. There are so many different Morgan Dove Blandfords, I am not sure how to find out the right father. Can anyone help? Mom and daughter moved to Philadelphia PA in 1869. On the birth certificate it has Morgan's occupation as Traveller.

I have also been researching this family. I think that Morgan Dove is a brother. Another brother George lived in Auckland, New Zealand. Their father was Aaron and the mother may have been Esmeralda or Elizabeth Goodfellow.

Hello Mr. Blandford, I am assisting a co-worker of mine who is a descendant of Alsace. Alsace and Henry Washington were friends. Mr. Washington's grandmother was Mary Ann Cord who worked as a cook at Quarry Farm here in Elmira. My great grandmother was also employed there as a cook in later years for Mrs. Susan Crane. My paternal grandmother used to tell wonderful stories of her times as a young girl while they lived there. While I am not related to the family I have a connection to Quarry Farm and find it very interesting. Tim

Alsace was born in Maryland, came North possibly between 1860 & 1870 with his father Thomas, mother and three siblings to freedom. My father was born in Grand Tower IL in 1930. His name is Eugene S. Blandford. His father's name was Samuel Blandford he may of been born in either Grand Tower or Murphysboro IL. His father was also Samuel Blandford. I do know that there was a Civil War General named Logan from the area who became a Senator after the war. His sister was married to a Great Grandfather of mine. I have been told that the family goes back to 1500 or 1600 England. That we are related to Winston Churchill and to the Late Princess Diania Spencer.Would appreciate any info thank you.

My line of the Blandford family comes from Dorset, England via Thomas Blanford born in 1648 and migrated to Maryland in 1672. There is a good way to determine if you are related to the same Blandford ancestry by doing a dna test which is strictly for genealogy purposes. The website is:

I don't have any specific knowledge of your branch of the Blandford family but I do have a great deal of information about the Blandford family in America that descended from Thomas Blanford of Dorset who arrived in 1672. If you go to the website shown above and do the testing we could determine if the two Blandford family lines came from the same ancestors. That would be a very interesting connection. Australian Blandfords - Morgan Dove, Charles Horatio, Matilda & Henrietta

Hi, I am looking for info regarding the parents & any ancestors of the following Blandfords who emigrated to Australia together on board the "Palambam" in 1833 from England...

Morgan Blandford - road surveyor
Charles Blandford - road surveyor
Matilda Blandford (my ancestor who married James Williams)
Henrietta Blandford

On immigration papers it is recorded that the girls were travelling with their brother (this is Charles)

Henrietta (Anne Henrietta, she married a William Lowe) died in 1846,
Matilda died in 1847 aged 37,
Charles Horatio died in 1864 aged 49 and
Morgan Dove died in 1892 aged 88.
They share a head stone in the Clarence Town (New South Wales, Australia) cemetery.

According to various sources I have gathered the following approx. birth dates:
Morgan Dove - 1804
Matilda - 1811
Henrietta - 1814
Charles - 1815

According to other's family trees Matilda's father is Aaron.
However I cannot find evidence of this. I am interested if anyone knows who this Morgan Dove is - is he also a brother or another relative, possibly a cousin or uncle???
Also the parents and any other ancestors of Matilda. I have also seen in other family trees that she is from Wiltshire -but again, no evidence.

I expect your ancestors were buried at St george church, Fovant Wiltshire, but without knowing more details i couldnt tell you. i am not aware of any ancestors of mine from Fordingbridge (which is just over the border from Wilts into Hampshire.

Ginger, great to hear from you. Hope to catch up on all you have learned. My brother and I have tested our dna through FTDNA, it is very easy and it is a perfect way to determine close relatives. It could determine if the descendants of the Mass. Blandfords and the Maryland Blandfords are related without any difficulty. All that would be needed is to find a male descendant related to each family and test them. The results will be very clear and this will be conclusive proof that Thomas was related to the Mass. Family. I am from the Maryland Thomas so all we need is a descendant of the Mass. family.

I am going to start a Blandford website on FTDNA that will start tracking all this testing from around the world. Should be some interesting results concerning long lost relatives.

My side of the Blandfords is called R-L21* which is English of course. We have not been able to determine if the family origins are from the continent, ie. Saxon or Norman, or they are ancient English.

I also have a change in descendants. It will be seen here so here goes: Proven and in the DAR. William Blanford bc1740's - d1803 had a son, Nathaniel that has been shown for many years as the father of Barnabus B (Barney B) Blanford bc1812 Washington Co KY - d1853 Hancock Co KY. He is not Barneys father. He's his Uncle; his father was John Pidgeon Blanford bc1774 MD - d1848 Breckinridge Co KY. So the descendancy now goes:
Charles Beaven
William Arthur
John Pidgeon
Barney B.
This is proven many ways and accepted by the DAR. Ginger

I have a Thomas that immigrated to Calvert Co MD in 1674. I have no info on him in England other than it appears he was born/raised in Dorset. He was born c1646 supposedly in Dorsetshire. I've never found any proof. It's possible a John Blanford is his father. He immigrated from England 1638 to MA. The names in this family are Thomas, John, William, Joseph, Benedict, Francis, George, Christina, Edward, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Henrietta, James, Jenny, Margaret, Martha, Mary, Nathaniel, Nicholas. This is just a small mention of names in my database born 1600 & 1700's. Born England, Massachusetts, Maryland.

I'd love to have info on my Thomas that immigrated. Parents, siblings, etc. He was a farmer and owned a Plantation in Calvert Co. Maybe more I'm not sure. His son, Thomas, married a Catholic girl Sarah Beaven (c1698) and after that they were of the Catholic faith. Not sure what they were before that. Does any of this help? My surname is blandford and I believe my descendants came from fordingbbidge I am not very good with this traciong or typing for that matter I know that my grandfathers parents were farmers and one son took over a farm in Oxfordshire I was the last born blandford that I am aware of .I was taken many years ago to a church in the Dorset area where apparently my ancesters were buried but cant remember which village of church. I would be grateful if anyone would provide me with any information related to Alfred Blandford and his family who lived in Portsmouth at the end of the 19th century. Alfred was born in 1857 at Corfe Castle, Dorset to Frank and Susan Blandford (nee Northover) and later married Harriett Elizabeth Long (b 1865) in 1885. I gather that Harriett (or Daisy as she may have been known) later remarried and had bore one son although I am having great difficulty in obtaining any information with regards to this. My husband is Charles R. Blandford. His father is Joseph E. Blandford, son of Robert H. Blandford and Elizabeth Lander. Robert and Elizabeth had only 3 sons: James Wallace, Joseph Earl and Paul Dennis.

My ggrandfather was Samuel Huselton Blandford, who moved to VA from NJ about mid 1850's. His father was David and his mother was Anne Huselton. Anne was from NJ, but David was from PA. David and Anne were also living in Petersburg, VA after the Civil War. There was only one son, Paul Blandford, of Samuel, in this branch. Any info would be appreciated!

My fathers name was Thomas Herman Blandford, mother was Annie Laura Girten. My dad's brothers were: Martin Allen,Bernard, Andrew, William Joe, and O. A. I have no idea what the O. A. is. Sister names: Frances Adeline, Maria, and Nora May.

I have been looking for the father of my g-g-grandfather, George Blanford. He came to Nelson Co., Kentucky in 1816, the same year that Charles Blandford first appears on the Nelson Co. tax lists.
You list a George Ignatius as one of the five children of Charles Thomas Blanford, born 1782. What data do you have about George? My first source was his obituary in 1882, which did not give his father's first name and referring to his mother only as a daughter of Major Smallwood.
I would be grateful for any information you have on this line.

I am sure as you say there must be a connection, but not clear what. Thomas' father was Joseph Blandford I believe (b abt 1640) who had children Thomas Elizabeth Sarah Martha mary Joseph.
Also as far as I know there are no Samuels at all in my family tree - so maybe the connection is further back.

Semley is quite a small place. In my tree I have a William Blandford baptised 24 Jan 1713 (I am a direct descendant of William). His father was Samuel Blandford. I suspect there may be a connection with your Blandford line. Was Samuel a brother to Thomas perhaps?

Deposition of Samuel Roundell, of PG Co., Gent., being duly Sworn....sayth , That the Wife of one Bevan, who had committed a Forgery, to the manifest Defraud and Injury of this Deponent, was apprehended and bound over to June Court, Seventeen hundred and fifty-four, in Prince George's County, and thence continued to August Court following: On the first Day of that Court, this Deponent asked the Prosecutor Mr. Henry Darnall, Whether the Affair between Bevan's Wife and this Deponent would be ended this Court, Mr Darnall than asked this Deponent, If he had not seen old Mr. Sansbury (the womans Father), who answered, He had not; Darnall replied , He wondered He had not, for that he, Sansbury, said he would see the Deponent and settle the Affair......Darnall said at the request of Mr Sansbury he had applied to the Governor,and represented the Case, and that the Governor said by G_d he would not do any such Thing until the Party injured was satisfied, and at that Time Mr Darnall said to this Deponet, If you get your Money, I suppose you will be satisfied; This Deponent answered, He would, for he had rather have his Money that see the Woman punished. The next Day, old Mr Sansbury, Mr Darnall, and this Deponent, went into the Clerk's Office, ant there Mr Sansbury gave his Obligation to the Deponent......

Prince George's County. The deposition of Henry Darnall, Esq; taken this 26th day of March, 1756, before me the Subscriber, .... This Deponent, being Sworn...., declares, That some short Time after a presentation had been made, by the Grand Jury of PG. Co., against a certain Ruth Bevan or Ruth Blanford, the wife of Charles Bevan Blanford, concerning some Goods, which, it is said, that she the said Ruth had taken of Mr. Samuel Roundell, by Means of a counterfeited Letter, signed with the name of Charles Bevan, Uncle to the aforesaid Charles Bevan Blanford, as it is said, a certain Thomas Sansbury, Father to the said Ruth, ....and after lamenting ....pathetic Terms and Misfortunes and Disgrace that such a Prosecution might bring upon the Family, intreated and much importuned this Deponent to put a Stop to the Proceedings against his daughter.......Deponent said to Sansbury, that he would or could not stay the said Proceedings, but, if he, said Sansbury, inclined so much to save the Credit of his Daughter, he had best apply himself to Mr Roundell.....

The letter of credit passed by Ruth was before June 1754, when she was arrested, as I said, at least six mionths before the last documented source of Rebecca, Charles first wife, being alive in November 1754. I haven't got it figured out, but could we be dealing with different Charles Blanfords. If we go by the Governor's words, Charles was living off of his uncle, Charles Bevans, the question being, Why? He was a grown man, with grown childrem, and a man of means.
And,then again, where was Charles during Ruth's problem? He doesn't show up anywhere.

I can help a little. DAR has accepted his name as Charles Beaven Blanford b 1 May 1703-3 Aug 1782. This is all DAR info. Marriage to Rebecca Poss Whellin c1725 PGeos. Birth c1703, Death 1754. Marriage to Ruth Sansbury c15 Nov 1754 Charles Co. b c1708-b/4 1773. Elizabeth Hagan c1752-c1782; married c3 Mar 1774.

Charles Beaven Blanford/Blandford, 1705-1783, Maryland

This is a two-parter --

1. Can someone tell me how Charles Blanford, son of Thomas Blanford and Saran Beaven, became known as Charles Beaven Blanford (beside the obvious). I can find no documentation
where he is legally referred to as Charles Beaven Blanford/Blandford?

2. Has anyone figured out definite dates on the marriages to [1] Rebecca and [2] Elizabeth?

I know there is supposedly a marriage to Ruth Sansbury between the above two marriages, but, I don't believe that the Charles who married Rebecca and Elizabeth is the same that was married to Ruth Sansbury.
Rebecca did not die until after November 1754 (when she gave her dower interest in the "Hickory Thickett").
In the following court documents, Ruth is referred to as both Beven and Blanford. In July, 1755, The Governor referred to her as " the Wife of one Bevan." In March 1756, a deposition by Henry Darnell, a Justice of the Peace for PG Co., refers to her as "Ruth Bevan or Ruth Blanford, the Wife of Charles Bevan Blanford.... letter, signed with the Name of Charles Bevan, Uncle to the aforesaid Charles Beven Blanford...."
In April, 1756, in a deposition of Samuel Roundell, of PG Co., (referring to Ruth) says that "Wife of one Beaven, .... , was apprehended and bound over to June Court, 1754, in PG Co. . This last date means she was the wife of 'a' Charles Beven Blanford at least six months before the Rebecca, Charles first wife, signed away her dower rights. Ruth's father, Thomas Sansbury, made resitution to Samuel Roundell and charges were dropped. Wonder what happened to her husband?

Blandford family history. Missing link??

Hi All,

My name is Ross Blandford. I am the eldest son of Graeme Blandford, who is the eldest son of Noel Blandford (who all are alive and live in Australia). I have tried to research the Blandford family tree and have run into a dead end. The family story goes that my grandfather (Noel Blandford) was born to a young man (name unknown at this time) and a young woman (name unknown at this time) in the 1930's. Story has it that my Great Grandfather left my Great Grandmother when Noel was 8 years of age, leaving my Great Grandmother to raise Noel and his siblings independantly. The only details that I have on my Great Grandfather was that he was born to an Englishman and a white South African woman out of wedlock, whereafter he was adopted. The only details I have on my Great Grandmother is that she was a UK immigrant to Australia after World War I. I do not know whether my Great Grandfather carried his biological surname or whether Blandford was the name of his adoptive parents. If this story rings bells for anyone, if you would please forward on any details. I will endeavour to learn the first names of my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother and provide another message post.

My g.g.g.grandfather was Henry Blandford a Carpenter who lived Richmond Park Gate in 1841 with his 2 youngest children -James(1831) and Elizabeth(1828. There are about 8 older children, and so far I have been only able to trace Ann(1813) who marr. John Blunden. James marr. Sarah Pilkinton in 1856 and had 2 children, Henry James (1861) and Florence(1862). Florence is my g.grandmother and she came to Aust. in 1884. On 1841 census,it says that Henry was born in Surrey, but I can find no trace. Is there anyone out there who knows anything about this family.
